Spring was coming, Jessie could just feel it. Soon it would be time to grab the trowel and hoe and get the courtyard back into order. She left the heaver stone objects out hidden in the bushes and in the empty flower plots. Jessie knew she would have to get some of the local kids to help her out since getting the garden done quickly would take more then just her two hands but that didn't mean she couldn't make the inside of the shop look spring time fresh.

With a wave to Jackson, the college boy manning the register, Jessie ran up the stairs into her apartment and pulled open the folding ladder into the attic. The gentle slope of the roof made what would be a normally cramped space, large and spacious. Large enough for another room, but that was a project for another day. Jessie hummed to herself as she dug through the boxes looking for one marked 'spring'. "Got ya'" She said in triumph as she snagged the correct box and made her way back down into the shop, humming 'high ho high ho' all the way.

Once she was settled on the stairs leading to her apartment she opened the box and started to pull out Easter eggs, stuffed bunnies, chicks, fake grass, and flower garlands. "Jackson its spring. Have an egg." She tossed a green and pink spotted egg at him, missed and laughed as it broke open on the counter scattering the little toys she had squirreled away into it last year. The young man just shook his head and picked up the wind-up chattering teeth.

Trevor stopped in front of the store front and glanced at the store's name "the bookwyrm, don't think I've heard of his book store" he said to himself before shrugging and pushing the door open, hearing a small jingle of the bell above the door. He glanced around the store, it looked like they were prepping the store to ring in Spring.

He nodded politely at the cashier before deciding to wander down the aisles to see if he could find a new book to purchase and read. He hummed quietly to himself as he did so, mostly for a book on cooking or perhaps on dogs, he was still doing research on getting a dog and he figured a book store would have what he needed. Then again with him having a double life just seemed a little more difficult. He wondered how Anella and Candice did it.

Jessie didn't even bother to glance up at the jingle of the door bell she just continued to dig in the box. It didn't take her long to detangle the string of bright colored LED lights. A bit of tape and the banister leading up to her apartment was twinkling and amused the heck out of Jessie.

With a basket of toy filled plastic eggs she fully descended the stairs and passed Jackson, who was playing with the chattering teeth. It didn't take her long to distribute her two dozen eggs around the store. With her last few still in the basket she made her way into the pets section. One gold egg went between the paws of a large stuffed beagle that 'marked' the beginning of the official section on animals. When she stood up she realized she wasn't the only person in the aisle. "Oh hello. Do you need any help with anything?" She smiled and with a glance at her nearly empty basket, held it out. "Would you like an egg? They have little toys and trinkets in them."

Trevor glanced at the basket "sure, i would love one" he said pulling out a toy egg from the basket "ahh, yess..i'm looking for a book on dogs and how to choose the right one. You see im thinking about getting a dog for my active lifestyle but im just doing research for the time being" he told her "and i don't have any in my bookshelf so i figured i can get one here" he said nodding his head.

"Hum" Jessie had to think about this one. How did one select a dog for their personality and lifestyle? She placed the basket of eggs on a empty part of a shelf and made a mental note that she had to restock the section. As she moved down the row of books she began to speak, books she knew about.... selecting a dog? Not really. "Well personally I think I would check out the local pet shelters and maybe talk to one or two of the workers there. After all the dogs that are there might not be pure breads so might have different requirements. I guess you also have to figure in your home. If you are in an apartment is there a size requirement? If there is some smaller dogs are unbelievably active so is is worth keeping a dog cooped up until you can walk it or play with it?"

Her hand reached out and grabbed a book, "Here we are Dog Breed Facts for Fun! Book A by Wyatt Michaels. Now this might not be quite what your looking for since it covers interesting facts of several dog breeds that start with 'a' but he has covered the entire alphabet," she gestures to the rest of the shelf, "so you should be able to find one that covers the dog breed you are really interested in. And of course you need to know how to train the dog which I would suggest Everything You Need to Know About House Training Puppies & Adult Dogs! by Lori Verni, Before and After Getting Your Puppy: The Positive Approach to Raising a Happy, Healthy, and Well-Behaved Dog by Dr. Ian Dunbar which should help in getting your place ready for a puppy if you want a puppy, and the ever popular Housetraining For Dummies by Susan McCullough."

These didn't really cover the question posed but they would help with the eventual care for a dog. Still Jessie was not happy that she couldn't find the exact books that would help since she knew they had them. "Where are they?" She muttered to herself as she scanned the shelves again. "HAH! found them!" She practically crowed in success. As she pulled out several more books she talked about them. "Now Choosing a Dog: Your Guide to Picking the Perfect Breed was published in 1995 so it might be a bit out of date but it does provide a A to Z profiles of the current AKC breeds at the time. This one however is published in 2010 and contains the questions you should be asking before getting a dog as well as the characteristics of the most popular breeds of dogs," she said as she handed Choosing a Dog Breed Guide: How to Choose the Right Dog for You. The Most Popular Dog Breed Characteristics including Small Breeds, Large Breeds, Toy Dogs, Terriers, Mixed and Rare Breeds. towards the young man. "And the Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds is always entertaining, contains profiles of over 150 breeds, talks about the health issues with each breed, and was published in," she opened the book to the front page, "2005 so its pretty up to date on the breeds and such. And again the most popular one is Choosing a Dog For Dummies." She held it up and smiled, quite happy with the nearly dozen books she had pulled from the shelf. "Now I know you don't want all of these, and if none of them are what you want give me a few day's and I'll see if I can find you better ones. Now I kinda want one...." She trailed off as she started to read the Encyclopedia that she still had in her hand.

Trevor blinked as she listed off about a dozen books or less, "I didn't even know there were so many books about dogs in general" he said eyeing the shelf they were standing in front of. He couldn't get all of them but if he wanted he could slowly get books but not all at once. He was pretty sure his book shelf at his dorm wouldn't be big enough for all the books she suggested. Of course, there would be lots it was a popular topic.

He took the book she handed him from her held the spine of the book and flipped through the pages. Before looking at her "I think, this one should be a good start" he said nodding his head as he rifled through the pages some more. He could always work here if he wanted to but he already had enough on his plate, with school, sports and the thought of prowling the streets for any signs of danger was already overwhelming enough. But, having a book about choosing the right breed of dog would be good for light reading. He tapped his chin to see what other books he wanted to read.

Jessie smiled proudly. Books were her life and to have someone else surprised over the amount of books that they carried made her day. "Oh I know. There are books on each breed, growth, grooming, training, history. You name it and there is likely a book on it. Granted we can't carry them all but if you ever need one I'm sure I can find it, I haven't failed yet. Now I know this is a lot but if you want we can wright down the titles and authors for a later date and just get one or two now." She found that the offer to list the title's of similar books tends to branch into more books which branches into more and more and more. It becomes a bit like a Celtic knot where there is no end or beginning just a endless weave of literature.

She nodded when he took the book from her and began to pick up the others that she had pulled. "You have to start somewhere and that should be a good one to start with. I'll re-shelve in a little bit but if you want to switch that one out or get another I'll leave them by the register. Just tell Jackson that their for you, he will know what you mean." With the books stacked in her arms she nearly turned to go when the look in his eyes prompted her to ask, "Is there any other subjects you might be interested in? We have quite a few history books, gardening books... I'm partial to those especially since it will soon be time to get the courtyard planted. Cooking is over there by the Garçon," she nodded her head in the direction of the waist high figure of thin balding man in a proper french waiter uniform, a large cookbook propped open on his tray, "and astronomy is under the stars to the left," again a head nod pointed the way to the small cluster of stars hanging from cloud painted ceiling. "I'm going to go put these down, give a holler if you need something. Either I or Jackson can help you." She turned around to go and as she walked down the aisle she called back over her shoulder, "Oh, I'm Jessie by the way. Welcome to The Bookwyrm." She would be back around, if only to collect the basket she left behind.

Trevor blinked as she spoke before looking up at the ceiling and the banners, would you call them banners that showed where each topic was. He tapped his chin "that is something, I've never seen a book store laid out like this" he said to himself. As he held onto his book and decided to wander the aisles some more.He hummed himself as he wandered down the aisles, he decided he would hit up the astronomy section then make his way around to fully check out her book load.

It didn't take long for Jessie to deposit the stack of books at the front counter and to explain to Jackson what they were there for, by now the young man was use to it. She turned back to the box still siting on the steps leading up to the second floor. Jessie smiled and grabbed brightly colored garlins and a roll of tape.

Soon the front of the store had garlin around the door and the counter. Jackson just looked put upon when Jessie sliped a pair of bunny ears on his head. She laughed and put on a pair herself before heading into the stacks to hang the rest of the garlin. Huming bits and peieces of songs as she went she litterly 'decked the halls' with pale blue, pink, yellow, and green garlin. The ends of the book cases held drapes of the stuff while the windows now sported garlin 'eye liner'. She was almost doen when she passed back through the pets section and spotted her abandoned basket. "Ooops." The mutter the only visable notion that she forgot she was not alone in the store, other then Jackson. She scooped up her basket and went to see if she could find the young man she helped earler. Had he already left?

Trevor tapped his chin as he flipped through an astronomy book, he was hoping he would find information on his planet and landmark he was named after. He shook his head, not finding what he needed. He put it back and picked up another one flipping through it as well, he tapped his chin as he quietly read.

Halfway through the shop Jessie got distracted by placing the last few eggs around and wondered into the astronomy section. With her basket empty Jessie was just going to pass through the section but stopped when she saw the young man from before looking at the books and promptly remembered what she was originally doing.

"Hey again. Are we doing good or do you need some more help?" She asked as she straightened the shelf in front of her. I should see about getting a few more books about astronauts and space in general.... I wonder if I should have a Easter egg hunt. What would it take to do properly? Her mind jumped from the books in front of her to the task she was just doing, hiding eggs.

Trevor blinked and jumped as Jessie spoke up he closed the book "oh, no I'm good..Just reading about space and stuff like that" he said. He tilted his head to the side "did you want me to help you with anything to get your store spring ready?" he asked her as he put the book back on the shelf in front of him.

"We have some pretty good books about space and everything that has to do that space." Jessie pushed some of the spines back in line and found herself lightly running the tips of her fingers across the line of books much like a young child runs their fingers across a xylophone. So many books that covered so much information and there were so many that she didn't even have in the store. Just the thought of such a vast store of knowledge made her mentally salivate.

Her mind jarred back to the present when the young man offered to help with the decorations. After a moment of thought and mentally digging through the box she smiled. "Sure I have some window decals that can go up on the store windows. They don't like me so I don't normally put them up. Thank you.... ah...." She trailed off as she tried to rack her brain to see if the young man had offered his name. If he did she didn't remember. Speaking of Easter.... not that they were, "Um, random question.... would you participate in a egg hunt at your age or do you think only the younger generation would enjoy such an event?"
PostPosted: Wed Mar 13, 2013 10:51 pm

Trevor glanced at the books before looking at her "You've got quite a collection here" he said gesturing to the books before it just hit him, he didn't even introduce himself "Ahh...sorry..got distracted by the books and forgot to introduce myself. My name is Trevor, but my friends call me Trev for short" he said extending out his hand.

He thought about it before replying "To be honest...No I wouldn't. The age group that will most likely enjoy a easter egg hunt will probably be between the ages of 5-11 years old" he told her giving her a rough age group. He wasn't too sure about the exact age group but when he was in that age range he loved it but he wasn't so yeah. Before nodding his head about the window decals "they would be where?" he asked not sure where she kept the window decals.

Jessie couldn't help but beam. Her books were her pride and joy. "I do my best to make sure we have a eclectic verity and at least a book on most subjects if not more depending on the demand. And there is really no need to apologize for getting absorbed into the books; I tend to do that quite often." She shook his hand then gestured to the stacks, "Literature is as close to another world as most of us will ever go. Those who are not able to travel or will never be astronauts or pilots or even oceanographers can read their books and dive into wonders they themselves will never really see. To live vicariously through books is what we have so it’s not something to apologize for." Even if she sometimes wondered what it would be to see the world like her parents were doing there were times like this that Jessie wouldn't give up for anything in the world, not even if it meant she could go to space.

Five to eleven year olds? Jessie mentally repeated. If she did what she was thinking subjecting the store to a small army of young children might not be the best idea, the courtyard however might beable to handle it. Curiosity warranted asking, "What if the 'prizes' in the eggs were something more adult like cash or gift certificates?" as she led him through the stacks back to the front stairs. A moment of rummaging in the nearly empty box had her holding up the stack of slightly clingy window decals. Eggs, bunnies, birds, and flowers stared back at her all layered upon on another, their bright colors blended into a mass that even a high hippie would get sick on. As she handed them to Trevor she added cautiously, “They should come apart easily but I don’t really know.”
