Matteo wasn't lost.
He wasn't. Sure, he didn't know exactly where he was going -- he hadn't yet mapped out this part of the school, which was the whole purpose in coming here -- but he could figure it out. Based on his observations, this floor was dedicated to classrooms. Some were occupied, and Matteo made mental notes about which classes to visit later as he passed, while others were dark, empty, and unfortunately locked, as he quickly discovered after testing the knobs. He really should have paid more attention when Papa offered to teach him lockpicking.
But one door was slightly ajar. With a gentle push, the door gave way to an unoccupied classroom, desks dimly lit as a pale trail of light flooded in from the hallway. Matteo moved further inside, squinting through the darkness. Should it be strange that this door was left open?
Before he had much time to investigate, Matteo's ears pricked at hearing faint footsteps. They probably belonged to students coming from another classroom, but if they belonged to a teacher, and it turned out he wasn't supposed to be in here... well, he wasn't taking any chances. He hurriedly ducked behind a storage closet and leaned over just enough to make out the door -- probably should have closed that...

Uwah..!” Against her better judgment, she had let her minipet come along to class. But when he wasn’t in her bag when she arrived back in the dormitory -- that was bad! Running back to the classroom, she paused in the doorway, panting for breath. It seemed that she hadn’t even noticed that the door, the door that was supposed to be closed, was left open.
“Yay!” She smiled in relief, seeing the ghost lying in the corner of the room. Diving into the room, heedless of the dust and dirt, she held the minipet in her cupped hands. “I’m glad.” The ghost grumpily stared over the reaper’s shoulders towards the storage closet, having seen everything.. surely warning Matteo despite it's tiny size. Though it’s owner was much more oblivious. Even though she looked young, she had surely been a student for already a year.
"Let's go back, okay?" She said with a quizzical smile to the minipet. Turning around to leave, she directly faced the storage closet.

The way that minipet looked at him confused him. Something in its fluffy face seemed to say, "Get out while you still can." Either that, or it was just glaring at him, annoyed that its hiding place had been disturbed. 'What a grumpy little furball,' He thought bemusedly.
To Matteo's relief, the girl looked more like a student rather than a teacher. That wasn't anything to run from. In fact... he glanced down, his shadow nearly lost in the heavy darkness of the room. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to say hello.
Throwing his voice and his shadow into the light, Matteo made his voice as deep and ominous as he could, while the shadow sprawled out as a long, twiggy figure into the doorway. "WHY HAVE YOU COME HERE?"Xaki I'm sorry this took so long orz I've been busy with school, but things should lighten up soon!

When Matteo's unexpected voice spoke, Lacie nearly jumped out of her skin. Even her pigtails moved in fright. "Um-um.." She turned around left and right, not sure where the voice was coming from. "I-I came to find my minipet! Please forgive me..!" She bowed apologetically to the storage closet, holding out the mad face as proof of her intentions.
"I'm very sorry to intrude! Miss.. Mister.." She wasn't exactly sure how to address this unknown being. P-perhaps it was a teacher or another student reprimanding her? Even though many monsters were actually students, Lacie also found herself intimidated by them: ;_; If it turned out to be really big, scary, and slimy, like a giant squid, she was definitely sure that she'd be running.

Barely restraining his laughter, Matteo tried to make the effort of stifling it seem like an intimidating pause. Two spindly arms spread from the shadow on the floor, extended towards the frightened girl -- strange-looking and more than a little eerie, to be sure, but thankfully intangible.
"I do not take kindly to intruders upon my lair," He rumbled, and then rubbed absently at his throat. This voice was probably going to do a number on him later. "I demand sacrifice. In minipets."

The minipet -- looking no happier than a few moments, lunged for the puppeteer. It would not take kindly to people bullying its master, thank you very much. Despite the fact it was not very affectionate to its owner either, it seemed to hold a certain liking for Lacie. Of course, the attack of a what essentially was a puffball was could be related to a cotton ball, with some weight, essentially throwing itself into Matteo's face and pawing at it. It wasn't painful, though slightly bothersome.
"Wah, d-don't! It's dangerous!" She tried to warn the puffball, her face looking alot like this: >_<;;;; !!
She dived into the shadows to find her minipet, momentarily forgetting her fear of Matteo's intimidating figure, and would probably end up crashing into him if he didn't move. Otherwise, they were both going to receive a surprise.

... and then Matteo got a face full of fluff. "H-hey!" He spluttered, forgetting to make his voice dark and mysterious -- although it was hard to put any sort of mystery into that line, to be sure, and being muffled by cushy softness didn't help. He tried to gently pry the minipet off of his face... only to look up and see its owner lunging at him. The next thing he saw were stars as his head thudded against the wall behind them.
"Ow..." He muttered, trying to push up a hand from their tangled pile to rub his head. With his other hand, he groped along the floor for Peppino, and breathed a small sigh of relief when his fingers brushed against familiar fabric. He squinted up at the girl and her minipet. "Are you... okay?

In the entire collision, the minipet was sent flying upwards -- landing atop of Lacie's head. Meanwhile, the second year student landed on top of a distinctly humanoid figure. No tentacles, scales, or other strange limbs. It wasn't a scary person..? Taking a few seconds longer to orient herself with her surroundings, she realized that she was nestled against a bundle of clothes, her hands feeling around her. Brushing her bangs from her eyes, she gazed up into Matteo's face.
The bit of sunlight that streamed into the storage closet let her recognize a handsome but young boy. Forgetting the intimidation tactics he had used earlier, she reached out for him. "I'm all right. I hope you're not hurt too badly..?" She asked softly, her hand reaching for the back of his head. Her golden eyes were clearly filled with worry.

She was too close, much too close. Automatically, Matteo cringed at her touch. It didn't hurt, but he simply wasn't used to -- or particularly comfortable with... situations like this. The kindness in her eyes made him remember to offer a small, conciliatory smile, even as he tried to push himself up and out of their awkward tangle of limbs. "I'm fine," He muttered. "My fault. That... was me, earlier."
She seemed nice enough. He might as well come clean, and start off fresh.
"I didn't wanna scare you too bad." He continued. "Just a little." Glancing down at their current predicament, his voice took on a more sheepish tone. "So... um... hi."Xaki ONE ETERNITY LATER A TAG APPEARS OTL
