Ithillún wandered through the woods, happy to be out of the herdlands. Training had become more and more intense lately, and at the mercy of her elder, gung-ho sister, Lún was feeling the burn. Not that she had anything against Tinúviel, of course - Lún just didn't see the purewalkers that plagued the Vanaras' leading family as much of a threat. They were certainly scary, but they were predators; they were meant to be scary. But with thirty newly-trained Cerynei on their side, Lún wasn't worried, and wandered the woods without a second thought. Aside from that, if no one but the patrols, stoic as they were, patrolled the woods, how would newcomers feel about approaching them? The odds were, Lún felt, not in their favor.
Eventually finding a clearing near the edge of the official herdlands, Lún munched happily on the long grass. She glanced up every now and then out of habit, but mostly kept her head down - since meeting and making a friend out of colt that was obsessed with bugs, Lún found the activities of the littler creatures fascinating. She'd long loved flowers, but now she knew that bugs weren't merely pests to be beaten away: they were intelligent beings, if only by instinct, rather than sentience. Peering at a nearby ant, Lún watched it in silence as she ate, wondering what the day would bring.

Isi Anowa hid behind a tree, curiously watching the other mare in the clearing. She allowed herself to imagine for just a moment that she was the other mare. Maybe she had a family, and brothers and sisters...yes, and they were all waiting for her to come home from exploring. She was taking a break from playing with her foals perhaps...How lovely it would be if it were reality. Of course Isi didn't know if the other mare had any of that, but it was nice to pretend to be someone else for a while.
She smiled lightly and then realized that she had been hiding for a while now. She wondered if in the past she had been this sneaky, this shy. She suddenly felt very self conscious as she tried to pluck up the courage to identify herself to the other mare. Perhaps she knew her. Isi could not recall any links between them, but this was the same with everyone she saw or met. It was hopeless for her to leave the remembering to herself.
"Ex--Excuse me," she muttered lightly, peering out from behind the tree and addressing the other, "Do...do I know you? I mean...do you know me?" she asked, trying not to cry at the horribly pathetic question and situation. It was best to ask straight away so that she didn't get her hopes up throughout a conversation. It was always best that others knew what they were dealing with before she dragged them into it as she had done with Prism. She missed him, but it was time for her to be on her own now. He couldn't help her remember anymore than he already had. Perhaps it was time that she give up on finding out who she was...

Hearing a soft, unfamiliar voice nearly spooked Ithillún, and would have, had she not been more curious today than worried about what was lurking in the shadows. Lifting her head, Lún caught sight of a sky-blue and light violet mare standing just behind a tree. Though her guard immediately went up, seeing that the mare was one of her own kind and hearing the distress in her voice lowered it considerably. With a swallow, Lún studied the mare, so that she could answer her questions.
As she looked her over, Lún yet again felt regret that she did not have the same connection with nature that her mother and sisters did - rather than her subconscious telling her that someone was nearby, Lún would have had to have relied on being completely in tune with her own body to know that. And she had yet to reach that point.
Giving the mare a final once-over, Lún shook her head slowly. She didn't recognize a thing about her. Was it possible she was a Vanara's lost child? She didn't seem to know whether or not she'd met Lún, which was certainly strange. Could the poor thing be suffering from memory damage of some kind? That would be so sad... Especially since she was so pretty. If there was one thing that Lún could appreciate, it was beauty. She'd spent her foalhood studying beautiful flowers and plants, just wanting to take in the colors of them.
Sighing, Lún let her guard down enough to speak to the other mare. This wasn't something she did often - speech was something she bestowed only on the Vanaras and the very few friends she'd made outside of the herd. Talking with strangers was entirely unheard of. "I am afraid I have never seen you before, Miss," she said, her voice soft and soothing. Lún didn't want to cause the mare any unnecessary suffering by dragging out her apprehension longer than need be. "Can I offer you assistance with anything?" She'd offered before the thought had crossed her mind - it was a reaction, she was sure, to seeing the mare opposite in such distress.

She could see the wall go up between the two of them as the mare studied her hesitantly. She knew before she said it that they did not know each other after all. Still, her heart fell when the mare confirmed that she was still alone in the world. Assistance? She had gotten enough assistance from strangers already. Jeremiah, who had escorted her out of the forest of a strange herd, Prism, who had rescued her from wolves...she couldn't ask the world for anymore assistance.
She looked at the other mare helplessly, at a loss for words. On the one hand she wished she could give her the memories that she so desperately searched for, but on the other hand she knew that could never simply be given. "My name is Isi Anowa...if anyone comes looking for someone by that name, tell them I am looking for them and they can find me..." Where could they find her? She fell silent again, tears coming down her face against her will. She turned away from the mare, not wishing to embarrass herself anymore than she had already done.
"I'm sorry," she managed to sob before taking off into the forest to hide her shame.Mahogany Sunset Sorry for taking soooo long!

"A pretty name," Lún replied, but before she knew it, the mare had taken off in the direction of the Herdlands. "Isi, wait!" she called, unintentionally shortening the mare's name in her hurry to go after her. Loping quickly and lightly between the trees that she knew so well, Lún did her best to get ahead of Isi Anowa before she reached the Herdlands - though she was a Cerynei, she was an unknown one bursting onto an unfamiliar scene, which might cause a panic. The herd couldn't afford a panic; they were already so on edge as it was. Calling out to the mare again, Lún tried to find her, listening for branches and twigs breaking, for birds going silent, for the sobs that had so far characterized their meeting. "Isi, please wait! You shouldn't wander in these woods alone!" That was an understatement - the scent of purewalkers always drifted faintly through the air around the Herdlands, mostly as a threat. They wanted the Vanaras to be afraid, and it worked well enough that most didn't travel through the forest by themselves.
Thinking back to their meeting, Lún wondered what had happened to make Isi bolt. It must have been internal; she was certain she'd been as calm and kind as possible, as was generally the best approach when it came to meeting strange Cerynei, especially females. While their first response was to freeze, many bolted when they felt threatened. It happened in the herd all the time. "Please come out!" she called again, beginning to worry. If anything happened to the mare, she knew she would be responsible. She'd let her leave without a guide or protection against what might be out there, lurking in the shadows. Even though Lún didn't perceive the purewalkers as a threat didn't mean that they weren't out there, looking for lunch in the form of a frightened, distressed doe.

She navigated easily through the forest, her Cerynei build carrying her over various tree roots and rocks that might have been fatal to others of larger builds. For a while she was deaf and blind to the world around her. She was too upset to think about walkers or other dangers that hid in the forests. Her body was on autopilot and she cried furiously. At times like these it helped to run. Most of the times her body began to run before she could even consider stopping. She would have to learn to control that someday...but right now all that mattered was running: running away from her problems, running from a past she could not remember.
As her brain began to clear from the frustration, she could hear a voice behind her. For a moment she thought to run faster, but after hearing the words she slowed to a stop, looking over her shoulder and trying to understand what the other was saying. Please come out! She hesitated still. She had embarrassed herself so much that the little pride she had left begged to be protected. It hadn't occurred to her that the mare would follow her. Why would a stranger care that much? Slowly, she peeked towards where the voice had come from. Perhaps she did know her and she had remembered? Don't get your hopes up. Isi cursed herself, moving towards Lún with her head hanging low as if she were a foal who had gotten into trouble.

Still running headlong in the direction that she'd last heard any indication of the mare, Lún saw a flash of lavender ahead and slowed down. Trotting toward Isi, Lún smiled. "I'm glad I caught up to you," she said, genuinely happy and a bit relieved to find her, though she was a little unsure about the posture of the doe before her. "There was something I wanted to show you, if you have a minute?" she asked, turning her body back in the direction the other mare had been going. A tiny edge of a thought had grabbed her mind before she even knew what she was doing. "Do you know much about your heritage?" It was a simple enough question, though by the Isi's earlier uncertainty, Lún wasn't sure if she would. If there was one thing she knew she could talk about, it was the Cerynei kind. Their history was engraved in her head; her mother had told her all kinds of tales and passed down the history she had learned from Lún's father.
Gently setting their path to coincide with the arch in the trees by the Gatherers' clearings, Lún hoped Isi would go along with what she was planning. If anything, she could help alleviate any loneliness the mare was feeling, or confusion about maybe one aspect of her life. Family was where one began, or so Lún had been taught; ancestors lent their appearances and parents influenced personalities. If she could shed even a little light on any issues Isi had been having with her breed, Lún hoped the mare wouldn't feel as awful and anxious as when they'd first seen each other.

Isi's shoulders sagged as she gave in and, nodding silently, she followed the mare. Maybe whatever she had to show was something that would make it all better. Heritage? She had no idea what the mare was talking about. She was surprised she even knew her own name, and as she thought hard she couldn't remember anything interesting about her heritage whatsoever. She sniffed lightly and shook her head.
She had never really thought about it. She had never considered the history of her breed. She thought now that perhaps that would have been helpful to her to think about and it only made her feel more ashamed of herself that she had not noted the similarities between herself and others.
"Where are we going?" she asked Lun politely and quietly as she followed her, unable to keep herself from admiring the forest despite her distress.
