T'rel seemed to be expecting an important guest. There was an air of energy about the man as he paced his recently cleaned weyr. The papers that had been spread out on the floor only candlemarks ago had been moved and put into a drawer. Tunics that had been strewn about had been stuffed into the chest by his cot. His cot itself carefully concealed lumps under the bedfurs. Someone had been in a hurry to make the place at least appear orderly!

The reason for all of this? Z'iv had sent him a message with his firelizard that he would be visiting. It had been turns since the man had seen his friend. Turns! He'd immediately responded, assuring Z'iv that there would be food waiting. Upon receiving the message, he had hurried to the kitchens and stocked a basket of meatrolls, bubblypies and redfruit.

It was a long trip between, from Ista to the Western Continent, he was sure.

Only the keenest-eyed watch dragon would have noted the flicked of movement that was the brown-black dragon appearing in the cloudy night air. They glided a moment and then landed with the barest thump of feet on stone. Buckles were flicked undone and a man slid to the ground with grace, and practised ease.

Straightening up the lithe man sauntered towards the glow-lit weyr with a tap-tap of slightly heeled boots.

On the threshold he paused, and he smiled.

"Hey Sweetheart. It's been a while."

T'rel stopped his pacing at the tell tale tapping of boots against stone. He hurried to Z'iv's side, once the other man had entered the weyr. "Turns," he said. "It's been turns." In a quick moment, he'd thrown an arm around the other man's shoulders. "I've missed you," he said. He'd given Z'iv orders to assist in the building of a Weyrhold on the Western continent turns ago. "How long are you staying?" he asked. "Do they need your skills, still?"

Shards, last time he'd seen his friend he'd been Weyrleader! He briefly wondered if Z'iv should have been reporting to R'yn--before deciding against voicing that thought aloud. No, he'd given Z'iv the order. It was their experiment.

"Tell me everything," he said, flashing the brownrider a smile. "From swarms of trundlebugs to clutches."

Z'iv looked older than when he had been Weyrsecond but perhaps more himself than ever; steady, poised, a little smirk curving his mouth up. "So hasty sweetheart? A good Trader always offer hospitality first you know." He could use it. When was the last time he had sat to a solid meal where he hadn't been struggling to negotiate something? How long since a glass of wine was handed to him without expectation that he would render some service to the giver?

"I have missed you."

T'rel took the hint, handing his old friend the basket he'd prepared for him earlier. "I'm not a trader," he said with a grin. "Harpers like their information first, meals later. You do look like you could use it," he added, studying his friend more closely. "Wine too," he said, fetching a wineskin from the table. "I don't know what vintage it is," he added, "I'm sure it's good." He pulled out a chair. "Sit first," he instructed. "Eat, drink."

He paused for a long moment, and then said, "Now, tell me everything."

"Right now sweetheart, I don't care about the vintage." White teeth closed around the cork that sealed the wineskin. A jerk of his head pulled it free and once he had spat it out Z'iv took a long drink.

Dropping his arm he sighed and shook his head. "Alright. Where can I start? The demand across Pern is... high. A lot of people lot a lot more than you did in the first fall. Traders, and minor Holders who had dared to branch out on the promise that Thread was gone for good." He took another swig and then looked around for somewhere to sit in the younger rider's quarters. "Can I crash on your bed? I've come a long way." The bed looked good, to be frank.

Erebeth looked up at the stars and snorted.

"That's fine," T'rel gave a nod. He would be happy to give up his bed for the night. "You look like you could use a good night's sleep. If you need anything else, let me know?" Concern laced his words. It had to have been rough, he supposed. So many turns away from home. He felt for the older man. He had to do something. He wanted to help. "You rest," he said.

He poked his head out of his weyr, glancing around for Z'iv's brown. "Erebeth, are you comfortable?" he asked the dragon aloud. "The weyrleaders won't mind if you hunt, I'm sure. Seeing as you are an Istan dragon. And R'yn's always hospitable." He lowered his voice. "Don't wake him come morning, hm? Let him sleep? I'll wake him come midday."
