Her life used to be so much simpler but nooo she had to get caught up with a male hyena which ended her up in servitude to some snarky b***h of a lioness. Heidrun was not a happy hyena with her current living situation but she wasn't about to risk everything on the off chance she could make a run for it. She wasn't worried about Bjorg being caught if she did, she already knew he could run fast enough.

Night had fallen on Durin's small pride and the two hyenas had been sent out to hunt for Risheera and her new-found male friend. Of course they never set a time they needed to be back so Heidrun was taking her sweet time finding something for them all to eat. So far she hadn't seen much. Sure there were signs of traffic everywhere, especially hare tracks, but nothing too recent as her nose wasn't picking up anything.

"You smell anything yet, Bjorg?" She called out to the darkness, hoping her companion was close enough to hear her.

Bjorg was not nearly as unhappy with the situation as Heidrun. At least not about the servitude part. He was used to being pushed around, treated like nothing. It was mostly the fact that their captor was a lion that got to him. However they had been sent off to find food for the lioness and this guy she found, and he was more than happy to do whatever he could if it meant getting away from the large felines.

Just as Heidrun was taking her time so was he, though this 'disobedience' was somewhat thrilling to the meek male. Many of the tracks were old ones, and the smells wafting towards them didn't seem any fresher. Bjorg popped his head up over the grasses, glancing around for Heidrun. "Nothing yet." He replied, pausing to sniff the air before trotting onward.

It looked like they would be out there longer then she had expected. Without a kill, they dared not go back to Risheera or risk their own deaths in exchange for their failure. A low growl rumbled in the chest of Heidrun as she jumped up a series of rock ledges that made up a formation which had likely been used during the day as a sunning rock for some of the felines. From her new vantage point she was able to look out farther then her companion could.

Nothing. There was nothing out there aside from herself and Bjorg. A scowl began to appear on her face as she stared out into the distance with no game in sight. How could this land be so empty but yet support life? Even if it was a small pride, for how large Durin' belly was, the pride had to be eating something. It apparently fell to the hyenas to find that something though without any help.

"Well keep looking. There's got to be a hare or something out here." She barked out to Bjorg.

Bjorg was just happy being out here, even if they never found anything. Heck, if they never went back then they wouldn't have to be around all those lions again! But if that scary lioness came after them, what then? Bjorg shivered a bit, before shaking the idea away.

Heidrun's reply was met with a nod, though likely she could not see him. The male sniffed through the grass, trying to find something, anything, that they could bring back. Maybe they could even get a nibble themselves. Sometimes these hares and things moved too much, so a missing leg or two would surely be okay. The idea made him smile, drool dripping from his maw before he licked it away. Yes, just a leg or two. That would be tasty.

Hopping off of her pedestal, Heidrun began looking as well. Which was unlike her.

Usually she just made Bjorg do most of the work, well okay, she let him do all of the work. Despite not wanting to return too quickly, she didn't want to risk Risheera coming out, though she doubted she would, but it still wasn't worth the risk. They were definitely caught in a rock and a hard place; stay out too long: get punished, come back without anything: get punished. She could not help but sigh as her stomach began to growl. The hyena was running on nearly empty and she hadn't had a good meal in days, possibly weeks. With hunger gnawing at her insides, she began to wander, the idea of finding a possible carcass, though it could be just bones, led her on and away from Bjorg who she assumed would simply follow her as he always did.

Rabbits and zebra and gazelle danced merrily through his mind, taunting his empty stomach. However every smell he came across smelled stale. They were all too old. It seemed like they may end up going back with nothing to show, and that idea was even more unpleasant than his stomach staying empty another day. He could deal with the hunger, another thing he was more used to, but the wrath of an angry lion? That was surely a worse fate.

What would they do if they caught nothing though? The lions might eat one of them. An even more unpleasant thought. Such fearful thoughts kept his attention, and he did not see the hole in the ground until it was too late. With a yelp he hit the dirt, scrambling quickly to right himself. "Help, Heidrun!" He cried out, fearing he had just been attacked by some stealthy beast. Bjorg scrambled and tripped through the grass, before tripping once more over his paws and rolling to a halt.

The large hyena's head turned quickly towards the sound of Bjorg's cry for help. Quickly her paws carried her over the ground, leaping over rocks and branches that were in her path. "Bjorg!" Heidrun called out, no longer caring about scaring away any potential meal. Bjorg was the only thing she had in the world and in there was no way she could lose him. Not now.

She had been expecting to find a lion trying to maul him and Bjorg frantically scrambling to climb a tree even though he knew he couldn't. Or even a leopard fighting eating who didn't like being disturbed by her more energetic companion. Whatever she had been expecting had not been what she found when she finally reach Bjorg. Fear fell from her face to make way for annoyance. She had ran, using valuable energy and possibly losing any hope at a decent dinner for what, Bjorg tripping?! Her lips pulled back into a snarl. "What the hell happened?"

Bjorg lay there, staring ahead in confusion as to what had just happened. It was only hearing Heidrun that he turned his head to look at her. He quickly scrambled to his paws, tail curling beneath him. "I thought something attacked me." He spoke softly. He could tell she was mad. It was generally the only emotion he tended to get from the females around him; anger. It wasn't as if he wasn't used to it, but it didn't make it any better. He tried, but even Heidrun probably hated him now.

Paws shifted uneasily beneath him as he glanced between the ground and Heidrun. Slowly he sunk back to the ground. "I'm sorry." He spoke, thought it was now barely above a whisper. Surely a tirade of anger and insults would follow now, and he braced himself for it. However even as he flinched at the prospect of her rage his nostrils twitched. "I smell something!" He yelped, head jerking forward as he shoved his nose to the ground. The smells were there. The strongest was strange, and he couldn't quite make out what it was, but a meal was a meal.

He smelled something? There was an obvious sense of suspicion as she watched Bjorg wander off. She hadn't even caught wind of anything around while she had been on the approach. Maybe he was just trying to get out of being scolded for calling for help when there really was no immediate danger. Still, he seemed to have legitimately thought something was going to hurt him. If she had been in the same situation, she probably would have called for Bjorg. Her tail fell as did her lips as she followed after the other hyena. Though her pace was nowhere near as quick as Bjorg's was.

Bjorg had seemingly forgotten the events that had just occurred as he intently moved forward, hunched over with his nose near the ground. He had definitely smelled something, he just had to get a better grasp on the direction. His path wavered somewhat as he tried to pinpoint exactly where the trail was leading. The smell started to mingle with others, almost to the point he thought he might lose it. The smells of lions were certainly strong here, but then they died down and he found it. This was definitely it. The smell he had smelled was here!

"I found it!" He called, dashing quickly forward. He was determined to find this meal now. Then they could eat, and Heidrun would not be mad at him. He would do good this time.

Heidrun finally jogged after him, trying to keep an eye on him but somehow she had lost him in the darkness. A firm frown formed on her face as she scanned over the grass to try and locate the light colored hyena. No luck. He was out there but she couldn't see him and his smell was everywhere so that didn't help her at all when it came to trying to track him down. She let out a small growl of frustration as she sat herself down. Surrounded by grass, she waited. He would be back. He always came back.
