General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

Ami hadn't ventured to the deathsweeper field for quite some time, for good reason. The last time she'd somewhat ... broken down crying. The lab techs definitely hadn't let it go, snickering any time she walked past. Still, she needed to complete the course to gain access to runics.

If there was one thing Ami didn't want, it was to feel weak again. She wanted to be prepared with an arsenal of weapons, options. Junpei was good, but she wanted it all.

< I hate this game its so boring. You just like ... stare at tiles and hope they don't kill you. So dumb, man, so dumb. >

It's useful.

< Boring. >

Useful.

It was was going to be a long day.

She stepped lightly across tiles, barely glancing down. Junpei was calling observations, as well as he could, reeling details into her mind. A crack here, a hole there, strange color here, irregularity there.

< Left. >

Her feet moved.

A memory came to mind, of her as a trainee. Junpei rattling off about his high school and his crushes, Ami screaming at him to stop. Was it strange to be a bit proud of Junpei? He'd matured in his own way, learning when to speak and when not to.

I'm surprised you're not more ecstatic about being out of the library, Ami commented, moving sideways. That last tile had a pinhole near the corner, a clear sign that it'd been tampered with. It would take more than a simple cloth pulled over her eyes to fool her.

< I dunno it's been sorta fun lately 'cause I'm so much smarter than you. >

Excuse me for not knowing your language, she thought with a roll of her eyes. Of course it wouldn't be for any reason like "it interests me" or "I'm happy to help you." Junpei was, in the end, a selfish teenage boy. Ami wondered if he would age, or if his personality was set in this age. It would have been a curious project.

She shook her head. Tiles, tiles. Crouching (but not in a way that was unladylike), Ami scanned the tiles. These ones were tricker, there were no obvious physical differences. A hand hovered over the one in front of her. She could feel a soft heat pulsating upwards. So this one was lava. Couldn't they be a little more creative?

She stepped right.

The lab techs must've read her mind. The moment she stepped on another tile, they shuffled the others around. This time, she had no idea which was which. They were all pristine, none of them hummed or ticked. No temperature- nothing. There had to be some way to tell. There was always a trick to these.

Frustrated, she gave up. Pulling out the only flag she'd been given, she threw it on a random square to the northwest of her. Nothing. No response to the flag whatsoever, meaning it was a safe tile.

< That was lucky. >

I suppose it was. Just one more.

One more step. Just one more step and the whole thing would be deactivated. She looked at her choices. A third of them were already out of the question, logically. Think Ami, think.

She heard a soft hum from one- that was never good. Bullet holes in another, of course not. There was just no way to choose among the others. She decided to take a chance.

The moment her toe touched the stone, a whirring sounded. Nope nope nope. She jumped back to her tile as a beam of light shot across the other tile. O-Okay not that one!

Ami stepped on another.

A moment passed, and then a voice from above sounded off with, "MINESWEEPER DEACTIVATED." The biggest sigh of relief escaped her as the golem deresolved, sending her back to the real world. A few lab techs coughed awkwardly, surprised that she'd survived. Well that just showed them!
