Andrew didn't really want to come alone. Being alone at the Maul was like being the only buffalo in a herd. That and everything was different here, but he needed a new phone at least for a few days till either his old one turned up or he could at least call his mother for a new one.
He knew that the temporary replace meant wouldn't last long. he needed his Fire burner 2000, the best thing on the market that could fully with stand a hot tempered fire blast, not to mention his pockets. A regular phone was doomed to over heat and the insides to melt like chocolate in the palm of the hand.
But along the way there was no reason not to check out the other stores. Half of them he recognized. Especially the food. He grabbed a burger and some fries, crispy, thank you, and plopped on top of one of the tables, staring at the crowd.

Events of the past few days had led Maple, to well, go out. Maybe to go explore a little more (and get lost, because she was very good at getting lost), but staying in her dorm room surrounded by her books and small creatures was getting her no where. Fresh air was what she needed. Returning to the Not-So-Forbidden Forest was so very tempting, but when she got wind that one of her favorite authors had put out a few more books than what her parents' collection had provided, than well... that spoke in itself where she needed to go.
Even though, the little witch had never been to a proper maul before.
Cue more getting lost. And overwhelmed.
Maple had wandered about a good portion of the large place, trying to find at least one of the book stores that were apparently located in the building before she had to resort to the directory (because asking someone would be most awkward indeed) and then some time to remember where she had seen it. Worry began to take a large hold on her mindset, making her think of turning back until she finally found the Hoarders. And of course it had been right there the entire time.
At least no one was with her to witness such failure. But that didn't stop her from dwelling on it the whole time; as she located the two books by Grimoth Zahn, looked at a few others that might have seemed interesting and made her purchases.
By the time the whole ordeal was over, the little witch found herself hungry. But at least the food court was easier to find, given how many times she passed it. That didn't stop the problems running circles in her head though once she made her steps in the general vicinity. Maple wasn't one to really partake in such eateries, mostly born and raised on home cooking and nothing of the fast food or restaurant variety.
What to do. Her brows knit together, her fingers curled a little tighter around the strap of her bag of books. She didn't know any of these places. What if she didn't like how they tasted? A lot of them sounded simple and nice enough, but it wasn't like home or at school. Urg, curse her sheltered life.

Did he recognize that girl? His mind raced trying to think of her name, Maple right? She looked lost, or at least hungry. He launched himself off his position and ran over to her, a couple fries hanging from his mouth. Shoving them in, and swallowing he positioned himself right next to her. "What are you looking for?" he questioned before taking more fries from the box the crook of his arm and shoving them into his mouth. Maybe he could not be alone that would be good. Even if it ways hyper stutter girl.

Honestly, with the effects the candy had had on her mind, some part of her wasn't sure that the boil she had met at Scarentines was really all that real (she wouldn't put it past herself for making someone up). But there he was, right next to her and eating ... fries? Well, that's what she realized after she jumped with a squeak upon his arrival.
"Aaa," she stammered, reaching down quickly to pick up the bag that had fallen to the ground, "I-I d-don't r-really k-know," she admitted as she reached out and grabbed the book that had fallen out. "I-I've n-never e-eaten a-at a-any of th-these p-places b-before." Urg, she looked like a total mess, this was horrible and to someone she didn't even know was totally real. And Maple couldn't even remember his name, this was terrible.

"Do you always stutter like that, or is it just me?" he asked around the fries in his mouth. He hadn't meant to scare her that badly, but last time she was hyper as Jack, then again he was too from those candies. Still he didn't want to scare away any more girls, last time she seemed fine with him... but he had done some odd things while that hyper too. Then her comment computed. "Well.... what do you want? Most of everything is pretty decent."

It was ... pretty much a bad move to mention the stuttering, because now it made Maple very self conscious and aware of it. A faint blush appeared on her cheeks as she stood back up, her hands holding the bag tightly to her chest like it was going to fall to the ground again. Her gaze remained on the floor, "... n-n-not ... j-just y-you." She replied, in something barely above a whisper.
Her brown eyes managed to pull from the floor for a moment, raising back to look at him and then vaguely in the direction of the food court, "I-I ..." she fell silent, really unsure. True she was used to home cooking, and well, school foods, but there were always differences no matter where one went. There were at least two places that offered sandwiches and others that provided similar meals. But she didn't know any of them. "W-which o-ones... w..ould y-you s-stay away f-from?" That would narrow it down in the least. Best to avoid the worst.

"Oh good. I was worried you were afraid of fire or something a second there." he had to strain to hear her, but once he heard that it wasn't just him, he relaxed. As long as he could understand her he didn't really care. In answer to her question he tilted his head. "The scarescream. Oh wait that's just me." he laughed a little. "My diet choice a a bit different from most creeple around here. Honestly if I don't like it I just burn it to a crisp and it's tolerable but ahh... I'm really new. I don't really know. But most of this looks fairly decent. So what did you come for, not just school books I would assume." he didn't look at her books, and therefore didn't realize that they were anything other then required material.

Somehow, something in Maple managed to stop her from opening her mouth and saying something rather stupid and obvious that even the smallest of scarelings would know. Being still a little frazzled, she was so about to ask why anyone would be afraid of fire. The ghoul's mouth open but instantly closed shut with her lips pushed together upon realization. It was something she could answer herself really and she it was so good that she had stopped herself before she made even a bigger fool of herself. "Y-you j-just .. st-started.. me..." She simply supplied instead.
It was enough to say at least, her eyes looking at the few locations he mentioned and then back to him with a sheepish look. Yes, his tail was a little aflame, that made sense with him not liking eyescream and liking the hotter foods. "S-sometimes.. s-some th-things t-taste b-better a li-little b-burnt." Like toast and potatoes, obviously not together though maybe they would taste nice together, she'd never tried it and she did like both of them well enough so maybe it was something to try. Aa, where was her mind going with this. Oh right, food court.
Oh wait, he was asking about her books. She looked down at them, her grip on them tightening a little bit more as if even more self conscious about them. "Oh, m-my f-favorite .. author.. p-put out.. a f-few n-new b-books w-without m-me r-realizing..."

He nodded at her comment about him startling her. Well that was the idea. He did like spooking creeple once in while. It was good practice. He just really didn't want to deal with another ghoul who couldn't stand him being within five feet of them, not at the moment. Besides he had plans. "Yeah some things do. Though even better when somethings are on fire. I doubt you would agree." he would be hunting down all the best foods soon. His fries would suffice for now. He shoved a few more into his mouth, not caring about rudeness. "Wait.... you read, for fun?" why would anyone actually read any more then they absolutely have too? "Are you one of those book worms?"

Maple simply shook her head at his statement about food on fire. Partly because she was unsure of what to say to it, but mostly as she watched him stuff his face with more fries. So rude and so blatant, it was probably a good thing he hadn't mentioned he was a demon of any sorts or the young witchling would be so appalled. So much of what had been put in her head from home about cultures and cross species relations was unraveling fast already that at this point all Maple could do but try to endure it and try to switch that all off; with some success in the least with good interactions. It was getting easier to go with the new daily flow. But.. he just kept doing it. All she could give him for now was a very pointed look.
Followed another look, going from near disgust to a little bit hurt and confused that someone would ask such a thing. "I-is s-something w-wrong ... w-with l-liking b-books?" Was she just giving herself an awful stigma or something now by reading?

"Eh, no I suppose not. I just... have problems with paper. It tends to vanish but the time I'm done with the page. Usual I just..." he instinctively reached for his phone only to once again be reminded that it was not there. "Ahh Jack..... you know how hard it is living without a phone? I swear when I find that thing, I'm gonna chain it to my pants... stupid plant thing... any way." he leaned back on his heels, "Nothing wrong with reading. It just takes me forever, mostly because well, did you know that paper ignites at 450 degrees." he grinned at the ghoul. Andrew got tired of talk about books, and turned to look at the court, "Aren't you hungry? Just pick something already." another fried vanished to be crunched, loudly. "There isn't anyway to know unless you try something. The burger I got from over there," he gestured to the Pumpkin King, "wasn't too bad, they even followed my request fairly well." his voice carried an easy confidence, like he was used to others making accommodation for him. He had no clue about Maple's expectations of demons, in fact he simply assumed she was one her self. The lack of full claws didn't bother him, he was a bit of a runt himself, not that that ever stopped him.

Oh, yes. Food was why she had come to this part of the maul and her stomach had been trying to make small reminders but Andrew had been a nice big shove.
There was one thing she needed to say though, "t-they m-make b-book ou-out of.. o-other m-materials th-though." Did he really not know about the books made out of animal hides or those protected by fire proofing? It wasn't uncommon that fire elementals would read, and even those of water or something that could damage books; especially the older tomes which were priceless. Or, did he just give up on the idea as much as she did with most things? Should she? Maybe she should, she frowned for a moment then looked at the food choices again.
"H-have y-you t-tried th-there?" She pointed as politely as she could towards the Stubway.

"Yeah, but computers and phones are easier to get." he shrugged. Fire proofing for a book was damn expensive. "Yeah they have good sandwiches. Their ingredients aren't the best, but hey that's fast food for you. But they are decent enough and you can pick everything yourself, it's like making your own sandwich but having someone else do the work for you. They even toast it." he paused. "You know, you are going to have have to come with me shopping now. Right? And tell me all about your books. I don't read them so that's a fair trade right?" his tail flickered as he got serious. He had accidently gave too much to the ghoul, he hadn't even though about it. Food always got him excited.

Maple wasn't sure how much she could offer to the subject of computers and phones. Both were used so infrequently that they were both rather alien to her; her phone at least got a little use at least even forgotten as it often was, it seemed a necessary device to own but nothing still justified a need for a computing device just yet.
Maple's eyes flicked back to the sandwich place as she considered his description of it. Well, that didn't seem very complicated at all and she got to choose what she wanted. But his next statement. "I-I a-am?" Was this some sort of binding contract now that she hadn't realized she had stepped in (something she as a reaper was supposed to create)? How in Halloween did that happen? "F-fair tr-trade?" Did that mean she didn't get to eat now?
What had she gotten into?! Panic.

"Yeah I'm bored, and I hate going to public places alone. Go grab your food I'll wait." he flicked his tail and plopped down at a table near the restaurant to finish off his burger. He didn't particularly enjoy carrying his food while eating. He didn't realize the panic he had induced in her, but if she were to ask he would inform her all of life was deal, signed contract or not. it was just how he ran, easier to live that way than to have the one screw up come and bite him in the a**. Then again he just assumed she would know he was a demon, he did fit the body type almost to a T.
