Cockery was taking a break from the hard work that was being so badass. It was difficult to just always be cool. His partner, Twitchy, appreciated it, but his kids constantly gave him eye rolls and tried to not be seen with him when other horses came around. He worked so long at building a family, and then they only time he saw his offspring was during their ninja training sessions. Oh, they tried to get out of those also, but Cockery would not abide by that ********. Being a Ninja Macaw Clan member was the most important thing. MOST. IMPORTANT. He would ingrain that in their heads.

One of his daughters, Dash Cocksure, gave them the most problems. She was dating a purple space horse. She knew how that freaked her mother out. Twitchy came from a land of constant running in purple plains at the hands of wicked star makers. Cockery's lover just couldn't deal with it whenever Galileo Figaro came over; she started to hyperventilate and had to go off to another area of the secret ninja compound to get away from the situation.

What had happened to his happy life he dreamed of? Where did things go wrong?

Cockery pouted in that way that only super manly men could, and bottled it into a deep rage.

A malicious, slithering feeling rolled though the land. Cthulhu was seeking followers. He had been fairly unsuccessful so far. Insanity and madness were apparently hard sells. Everyone he encountered so far was so... sane.

Up ahead, he spotted an interesting fellow who was standing stone still, somehow looking tough and weak at the same time. It was almost as if he was putting on a show for someone, but no one else was around. That horse's lip quivered as if he wanted to cry, but couldn't.

Cthulhu's eyes glowed, and he devilishly rubbed his tentacles together. This had possibilities.

Moving unseen, he approached.

The clammy feeling of terror rolled down Cockery's spine. He wanted to look over his shoulder and see what it was, but resisted. If he pretended like he didn't notice, then he could leap with ninja skills at the intruder and show them a thing or two. They'd never see it coming.

Thoughts raced though his head... well, raced relative to him. Cockery wasn't exactly the smartest, fastest thinking horse around. He probably wasn't even in the top 50% for intelligence.... top 75% might even be a stretch.

But what he lacked in brains, he made up for in dashing good looks and smarm. Of course, none of that was going to help him unless it was Twitchy rolling up behind him. His mate never gave him this feeling of dread.

Cthulhu continued his approach. This was going to be easy. This one's mind looked so fragile. He could smell it in the air. He could sense it in his bones.

One of his tentacles reached for the stallion and....

COCKERY SPRUNG!

With a sharp, precise, ninja accuracy, he kicked the intruder in the face. "SCREECHING PARROT KICK!" he yelled very unstealthily. It certainly felt squishier than most faces he kicked.... odd.

He finally laid eyes on his foe.... EW. It was like it had a squid for a head. It smelled like the bottom of the sea. It was the most horrible, awful thing he had ever faced. Cockery recoiled and backpedaled. Ew. Ew. Ew. Good thing no one else was here to see him break form and act like a little wussy girl.

Well, that really was no way to say hello! Cthulhu glanced off the blow. It wasn't that it didn't hurt, because it did, it was that whatever pain he was feeling was overwhelmed by the happy feelings he got watching this ridiculous fool flee. He threw back his head and laughed. It sounded like a miserable clicking noise a dieing dolphin would make. His laugh was evil, but more than that, it was just unsettling how creepy it was.

One tentacle wiped a lone tear from his eye. This was going to be easy.

"Hello sir," he began, "I'm sorry if I startled you; I know my appearance can be a little... intimidating." Cthulhu's eyes narrowed on the last word, and his malice showed though. It was hard for him to keep up a civil charade, but it was easier to coax unwilling minds to his side if he was nice to them first.

Cockery threw up a little in his mouth. Definitely not awesome, and for sure not as badass as he liked to be. This... this... this thing. It talked. It was talking to him. And that laugh made him shiver from an inner cold.

Okay, Cockery, keep it cool. "I wouldn't say you're intimidating... more like repulsive."

Suave. Tre' Suave.

"Replusive?! You insolent, worthless, sack of meat!" Cthulhu coughed and regained his calm. "I mean, I do see how I could be alarming. My mother did tell me that I had a face that only she could love." His words were dripping with persuasion and charm. Oh, how he longed to torment and taint his mind! Oh, what sweet bliss to shatter his consciousness!

He couldn't rush it though. All this suffering he was going though being nice was going to pay off. It would make this fool's destruction even more sweet.

Well, he better get on with the plan; he could day dream about the future later. "I have a proposition for you. I'm recruiting for a band of fellows. One needs a certain mind for it though, and I think you fit the bill. Would you be interested in joining?"

Ung. Cockery felt like he was going to be sick. Why would he want to be around this guy any longer than he had to? And besides, he had just stopped adventuring recently. He had a family now. All be it, a family who really didn't want him around, but a family none the less.

"Thanks, but no thanks. I'm really not interested." He paused. "Good luck though?"

Cockery took his badass stance again. His head was raised high, and he stood there looking as awesome as possible. He wouldn't want to mess with himself if he where that guy. Aw yes. Being totally awesome all the time was a gift.

There was a clap of leathery wings as Cthulhu took off into the air. He hovered above and called down, "If you will not join me willingly, then I will take you by force! I will rend your mind and you will descend into a dark pit of madness!" He was blinded by his rage. Foiled again! How horrible!

"I'm going to suck what little brains you have out of your ear! You will beg for sanity and mercy, but find I have none to give! Your destruction is coming to you now!" He swooped down making an attack.

"SQUEALING NINJA ESCAPE!" Cockery yelled as he began to run away from his pursuer. It was probably the least cool thing he had ever done in his life, but he didn't really care right now. He was in no mood to try to fight something he couldn't even stand to look at.

He ran and ran. Foam formed in his mouth, and his legs burned like fire, and still he ran. The sound of wings and laughing still followed him. He couldn't keep this up for much longer. Where would he go? He couldn't go back to the secret ninja compound; there was no way he was going to risk his family. He had to suck up his macho pride and find a place to hide.

What he needed was time to prepare. Time to train. He was always training, never not training. Train, train, train. It was all he did! And now, when he could have been putting all that training to use, he was running. This may have been the most pathetic moment of his life.

Cockery finally reached a mountain and found a small opening to force his way into. He doubted his pursuer would be able to fit in here to get him. The small opening funneled into a larger cavern. It was dark and kind of scary, but it was better than what was waiting for him outside.
