The meeting had gone better than what most Lifers had probably expected. Not only did most people come out of the experience with minions, equipment, and a budget, but also the highlights of actual titles to a chosen field. Even Rin, who had been rather bummed out to hear plants weren't really on the table due to their cost had gotten a greenhouse and some funding.
It was Lifer Christmas, and everyone walked away with the shiny new toy they wanted. Even Melvin was beyond happy to have a budget, a card (even if it was altered from a previous one), and the prospect of a tablet! Equipment he didn't have to pay to get runic was a huge deal - and a relief to his wallet.
"I have some good coffee in my room. I say we have that." He was not drinking crap coffee when he felt this good.

Rin was still flying on a massive high. A greenhouse. She actually got a greenhouse and a go ahead on gathering plants to fill it - whether or not those plants came from Halloween was not the point to her. She had a budget too! A real life budget.
She flashed Melvin a brilliant smile, "I can't think of a better way to celebrate!" She did however settle into a curious look, "What was your request about? I had missed your presentation."

"Artifact testing. I''m not really into weapons, but I would like to study them and see if the information could make better equipment for the Moons. It means a lot more hunters could actually make it to the Infirmary." He stepped up to his door, unlocked it, and walked in, turning to the bookshelf and picking out one of the bags of ground coffee he was hoarding. Taking it, he stepped out with her.
"I'm glad that you could actually get your proposal cleared. You looked like a kid in Christmas that was said he wouldn't get any presents."

Rin watched awkwardly from the doorway as Melvin dove into his personal stash. Her eyes wandered over all his... stuff. She wondered where Allan and Springer were presently residing and focused a bit too hard on Melvin's bed. She almost hadn't heard him as he spoke again and smiled awkwardly as if she were caught spying on him, "Y-yeah... it would have broken my heart. It was my only... I've been trying to research plants for months now. It was my only goal in Life. It broke my heart to think it was going to be taken away like that, yanno? Seen as not only a silly impossible little dream, but taken away by newbies who haven't even introduced themselves yet." Yes, Rin was the type to hold grudges - but, deep breaths. She got something out of embarrassing herself, "It wasn't wasted effort and I now have something I can work with."

Allan and Springer were currently on the nightstand beside Melvin's bed seeing as the Lifer felt it was easier to excuse to others that they were decorations than, if on the bed, the security items they actually were. Don't worry, Rin - they were close by and kept safe.
Locking his room, he gestured that they would head to the nearest kitchen to use the coffee machine to make their own coffee. "I haven't met any of those hunters either. I think the boy was in the showers once and was molested by one of the guys though. The accent - I remember him screaming with it." Melvin said this as if molestation was just a common occurrence in the boy's bathroom, which it was.
"Are you going to go out shopping and buy your wages worth of plants from some nursery?" He asked, curious on what plans she had for her plant project.

"... Man, the men's bathroom sounds like a blast," Rin said with a roll of her eyes and a playful smirk before shaking her head, "Nah. The kind of plants I need can't be bought with money. I'm thinking I will need to go to far off and remote places in search of rare specimens... not that I'm going to neglect the more common species of course. I just need to vary greatly from the extremely rare and the mundane if I'm going to get anywhere. Before that though, I suppose I will need to fix up the greenhouse and prepare it for various climates."

"Do..you mean remote and far off places like Everest and the Amazon or...." He tried not to think about that green woman. "Halloween?" He wasn't sure which plants she was going to go after specifically.

"Everest, Amazon, Antarctica, Egypt, wherever. Not Halloween though, H made that clear. It's too dangerous. Anywhere on earth, okay?" She wrinkled her nose with a cheerful smile. "It's going to be an adventure! A slow and steady one - but one all the same!"

"That is a lot of hiking around. Just make sure you don't wind up in jail for tresspassing on some protected grounds for those plants. You'll probably need a lot of reference books for normal plants when you go on leave." He said, pointing that out. As much as they had a library, it wasn't for normal things - unless you considered Culinary Discoveries of Undeads to be considered normal.
"Well, if you ever need to go on a boat to get someplace, I can help you out." He offered, walking into the nearest kitchen and walking over to the coffee pot to start their coffee.

Rin laughed, "Don't worry about me. This is my field. Back home, plants were my main field of study. I have a ridiculous number of reference books in my bedroom right now, even." In case he wanted to see them for any reason. "A boat? You do have a good point, surely there are a lot of aquatic plants I need to gather as well - why however? Are you good with boats?"

He cleaned out the coffee pot and then filled it with filtered water before pouring it into the machine. "I didn't know how much you knew about plants. You should have admitted yourself into college." And not an insane asylum.
Pouring in some coffee grounds from the bag, he turned it on and went to get them some clean mugs. "I grew up near a marina. Just grew up near the water. Fishing, ice skating, ice fishing, swimming, and catching whatever it was you wanted in the water. You didn't have much else to do otherwise." Water was a great distraction for kids, but one he grew out of when he was older. He still liked the smell of lakes and the sight of a row of boats tied to a pier.
"Where did you group up at?"

Rin frowned as she watched him preparing the coffee, "I wanted to but we didn't have the money for that sort of thing. I needed to work."
"That sounds nice though. There wasn't really much for water near where I lived. I only got to swim on occasion..," she gave him a thoughtful look at his followup question. "I lived in a city... it was kinda falling apart though. And very dirty."

He washed some cups as he listened. "The city, huh?" He looked her over. "I can see that. Guess it didn't hold any good memories for you?" The way she spoke of it meant she probably hadn't enjoyed living there.
"I've only ever visited cities before, but never lived in one. It seemed a nice idea to move there just for all the shows and restaurants. Never got that chance though." Now he was on a island that was even more remote than any town he lived in.

"It was dreary and grey. What I always wanted was to perhaps live on a farm or in a forest. Surrounded by life and greenery. Cities can be too... dead.. and too closed in. I felt claustrophobic. But I guess I got used to it," Rin looked to Melvin with a curious smile. "At least this place is pure vegetation past the protective walls. So I guess I sorta got what I wanted."

"Hmm. Don't think you'd like Maine. Tends to rain and be cold half the time. Not great for plants." That's what you got when you liked so close to lakes. Their summers usually weren't that long or even too hot.
"You asked to live in a jungle full of crazy minipets?" He joked. "I suppose all the space and heat is great for plants. I'm sure they'll do fine in wherever this greenhouse it. I suppose you'll have to spend some time cleaning it out and hopefully not replacing any panels." Considering that Dr. H stated that they project wasn't really active, he could only guess what state of disrepair this greenhouse was in.
