Alchemy Introduction

What is Alchemy?

Alchemy is the way of crafting items with components, formulae and gold on Gaia. To get started, go to the Alchemy Page and click the button to get your free Alchemy Starter Kit. You will receive the achievement Alchemy: Level 1 as well as most of the components and the formula to create the item Aspiring Alchemist. The first formula is very easy to make, and you will gain experience by doing so.

As you craft new formulae, you will see a bar in the top corner of the Alchemy page that says XP. This XP is needed to level up and create higher leveled items.

Leveling Up

In order to level up, you will need to create quite a few formulae. Here is the list of what is needed:

Level 1 - Craft 10 Level 1 Formulae.
Level 2 - Craft 10 Level 2 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 1 Formulae.
Level 3 - Craft 10 Level 3 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 2 Formulae.
Level 4 - Craft 10 Level 4 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 3 Formulae.
Level 5 - Craft 10 Level 5 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 4 Formulae.
Level 6 - Craft 10 Level 6 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 5 Formulae.
Level 7 - Craft 10 Level 7 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 6 Formulae.
Level 8 - Craft 10 Level 8 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 7 Formulae.
Level 9 - Craft 10 Level 9 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 8 Formulae.
Level 10 - Craft 10 Level 10 Formulae or Craft 20 Level 9 Formulae.

If you decide to craft a formulae that is more than 2 levels below your current level, you will not get experience for doing so, though you will still get the item you crafted.

Components

Some formulae have more than one list of components that can be used to make it. All of them make the same item, but some may be easier or cheaper for you to make it. You should always check this before buying certain components for it.

A GREAT way of getting components (rather than buying them in the marketplace) is through the Philosopher's Cache. These are bags which contain certain components.Sometimes you will find that the components are more expensive in the marketplace than the Philosopher's Cache in which they belong.

Lei_Trigar has a great guide for all of the different Philosopher's Caches Here.

Easiest / Cheapest Formulae

When I first began dabbling in alchemy, I noticed that a lot of the formulae create an item that has a far smaller sellback value than the components cost to make. I would like to be able to craft and make a profit or at least cut even in doing so.
I have looked for many guides to help me find the easiest or cheapest and/or cost efficient, but I have not.

Based on my own personal encounters, being only a level 2, I have these ideas for you to try.

Level 1:

Aspiring Alchemist
Despite the very.... VERY low sellback value, it is possibly the most time and cost efficient formula currently on the site. It usually only costs around 8,000 to craft (105 gold exactly if you have an Alchemy Starter Kit) and has a Very High chance of making it.

Orb Aggregate
If you are a frequent zOMG player, this formula will be a piece of cake to make for you. You need 100 charge orbs to create it, and the small amount of gold to craft. You will be to level 2 and on to level 3 in no time! If you do not play zOMG, it will be.... near impossible to make this item.

Amigo Taco
Despite the very high cost to craft the item (10x Salt at about 75,000 gold a piece) It has a VERY good sellback value (despite the low amount of buyers) that you should be able to get back most of what you spend, and you even have the opportunity to squeeze out a profit. Currently (since I got lucky and only paid about 500,000 total to make this item) if i am able to sell it at its current market price, I will make a 300,000 profit on it.

Philosopher's Cache
The Philosopher's Cache is very easy to make if you have a lot of garbage. You need 50 of each of either flowers, bugs or paper. Good sellback too, and if you want to open it and happen to get a gold case from it, you are able to get a decent profit!

These are my best options for levels 1-3. The more Aspiring Alchemists you can make the easier it will be to go from level 1 to level 3.

I will let you know what I find out once I am a higher level 3nodding

Level 2:

For level 2, I still continued to make the Aspiring Alchemist. Easy components to get and very very cheap. It has the least amount of risk and cost involved. I made one Lawn Shark Blades, but ended up with a bit of a profit loss (only about 5k or so)

Level 3

Currently I am stuck on level 3. I will be looking into buying the components for Ectoplasm.
It will end up costing about 2.3 Million to make, not including the fact that the chances of a successful craft are very low, and it has a mp average of about 2.6 million. I will update once I am able to get the components together.
I hope this will be a good craft for everyone!
