Another Moonday, another "why-do-I-even-bother-to-exist-day" for one certain raum demon who was currently trying to get himself out of the tree he was, for reasons unknown, stuck in.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that he had been in the process of flying over a tree just a few moments prior.
Maybe it had something to do with the fact that he had shifted from a flock of ravens back to normal in midair.
Or maybe it had to do with the fact that Xavier Hollow's life really just sucked.
He made a pathetic attempt at calling to see if anyone was around.
"Anyone out there....anyone..."...help."

Being a wolf, well, technically a Lupus Spectrus, Zero was very honed into the ways of the other world, the other world being all the sights, smells and sounds that normal unobservants could not fathom to imagine. He was feeling super knowledgeable after reading the fancy article from the InterWeb, which clearly made him The Ghost Who Knew Everything, detailing the steps to the Scientific Process.
Step one: Observe the environment around you. No detail is too small. Zero looked around. He looked up, and then around. Ah yes, he seemed to be in some sort of field, an outdoor field, judging by the lack of roofing and the trees around him. The trees looked very old and healthy, suggesting a rich soil environment full of Fear nutrients.
Step 2: Take notes about the environment. Zero pulled out a notepad, scrawling slowly on it with simply one nail (dipped in ink). 'Outdoor environment, moist soil rich for planting, smell of urine nearby suggests that there is a waste disposal facility.' He walked as he wrote. 'Trees are very large and sturdy and-''Help''-Speak in our native tongue,' He finished flawlessly.
Step 3: Interact with the environment one step at a time. Observe. The Lupus Spectrus was very interested actually in why a place that was a dumping facility for waste was great for planting trees, and possibly if it meant the foliage themselves had mutated to another species, but he had to save the best for last. For now, observe the talking tree. Leaning over, he tapped it a few times. It seemed pretty solid. He stuck his arm through it. Nope, nothing.
"Hello tree," Zero finally decided, stepping right under Xavier, "I am here to observe you. Go about your natural daily business, I will simply be here, unobtrusively, watching everything you do. Everything."
Step 4 (optional): Act super creepy.

It was a good several moments before Xavier realized that there was actually someone there beneath him, and when he had come to this realization, he also came to several more of them:
a.) Said person was something pale and blue, but his vision was obscured by thick foliage and he wasn't quite able to make out the figure.
b.) Said person also sound male, but that could be misleading.
c.) Said person was...talking to the tree.
d.) Said person was not, in fact, talking to the tree, but talking to Xavier as if were a tree, because although trees could potentially be useful really all they did was stand there and get in the way of everything and be peed on by various minipets.
e.) The tree was definitely a metaphor for Xavier.
and finally
f.) It really was very uncomfortable lying upside down in a tree.
Xavier gave a small cough, harrumphed a little, squirmed, and managed to get his arm stuck underneath himself.
"Why are you observing me surely there are more fascinating things to observe."

"Scientific observation may indeed be dull to the untrained eye, which is just a figure of speech, since you are from general observation an eyeball-less tree," Zero followed-up, entirely convinced the tree was a talking tree, "But the process and the results are the most rewarding. One should not count their chickens before they-"
-The ghost wolf suddenly froze, turning rigid. He lowered his voice to a very loud whisper. "Don't make any sudden movements, tree, I think someone is watching us."

Why was he talking about chickens.
There was a long pause in which neither of them spoke and Xavier was beginning to get very uncomfortable hanging upside-down and he couldn't quite feel his legs and -
Crash.
As it turned out, landing upside-down on the ground on top of a ghost boil wasn't that comfortable either."Ow."

The second Xavier landed on, ahem, ground zero, there was a long poignant pause-
-As the spectral wolf slowly, finally, after a few long moments pulled out his one free untangled arm and grabbed his notebook. His other free arm wormed around several body parts that might not have actually been his before locating his haunted pen.
"Tree prone to dropping unintelligent fruit..." Zero wrote as he narrated at the same time. "Fruit seems an off-colour, suggesting a long cycle of decay. Consistency?"
The Raul Demon would feel themselves poked several times in various places.
"Spoiled." The spectral wolf completed in his somewhat- neat print, though the ability to write while tangled up was quite a feat in itself. He made no motions to actually disentangle.

Confused Xavier was confused.
"Why are you calling me a fruit - wait am I deca - wait what."
There was a long moment in which he didn't make a move to actually get up off of Zero and instead just lay there trying to figure out why he was always stuck in these sorts of situations and how he could have possibly managed to get himself in yet another one and -
"Ow."
Xavier rolled off, wound up face down in the grass, and didn't move."What are you talking about." He said after a moment, his voice muffled.

"Ah yes," continued Zero, pocketing his Haunted pen to dust his lab coat off before crouching down in front of Xavier, "but the true question is, is the fruit talking, or is the tree, as it is the tree that bears the fruit. What comes first, the tree, or the spoiled fruit remains?"
He moved over to poke the Raum demon.

Xavier wondered if maybe he had died.
This was what the afterlife was. Getting poked and prodded and examined and analyzed until all he was was a pile of useless feathers and terribly unexciting fur and clothing and -
"Ow."
Xavier rolled over again."I'm not a fruit, I'm a demon."

"Did you say something?" Zero paused, uncoiling his Haunted Stethoscope, the snake- headed end snapping a few times at the ghost before he tapped the head into submission. "Deep breaths, say 'Ahhh'. Don't worry, you're not going anywhere until I solve this mystery, with the power of research."

"No, well, yes, maybe okay maybe not."
Xavier closed his mouth slowly, wondering if he was maybe imagining things - but then he opened it again as though he were going to tell this strange creature off for being unhelpful and invasive and -
- and he promptly breathed in and out and said ahhhh quietly.
"What, er, um, is this...mystery..."

Xavier got an admonishing look. "If I knew what every single mystery was, it wouldn't be a mystery." He took out a haunted stethoscope, the snake variant, and pressed it to the side of Xavier's head. The serpent end of the stethoscope decided to make itself comfortable around the Raum's forehead, squeezing lightly.
"Well, that is perplexing." Zero finished, flashing a haunted flashlight in both Xavier's eyes. "Are you aware you are not a tree at all?"

There was a long, drawn out stare from Xavier towards the boil."Yes, I think...I think I was pretty aware of that, yes."
