Appearance: Raolan is a dark haired, dark eyed, scowling man, already balding.
He somehow has perfected the Comb-over so that it isn't absurd at all, but what would you expect of a hairdresser, bad hair?
He is tall and lanky, and dresses as snappily as one CAN dress in a prison. He always has an air of rushed-ness to him.
His clean-shaved face doesn't make him look any younger, if anything it accentuates his scowl and the angles of his face. Clearly he can do better, so perhaps he just likes to look like this.
He has been known to smile at a few people. Its clearly an unaccustomed emotion, but it's not bad.

Raolan could be described as acerbic. He's a grumpy b*****d and he always has a few choice words to say about Wardens, Prisoners, Crafters, and Guards alike. His temper often leads to stomach problems, so he knows the healers well. He certainly does have a witty and sharp way with words, and he is always willing to share. Not shy this one.
Despite his acerbity, he really isn't a bad guy. He's just a bear. Not exactly cuddly, Not exactly sweet, but he's not a bad guy. You just have to find his good side through all the grump.
Much of his bad temper is due to the fact that he is stubborn as a mule. As a barber, he doesn't usually get ordered around too badly. If he is told to do something, and he doesn't like it or want to, he'll dig his feet in like a badly trained Runner and bray his displeasure. He likes to make his displeasure clear, though he won't ever go so far as to be violent. He's not a violent man.
Really, though, he just wants life to be at least moderately pleasant and highly uneventful. Not going to happen at Wardens, but oh well.
History:
Raolan was a trained hairdresser, a luxury for the wealthy.
To him it wasn't the money but the craft itself that called to him, and the problem with the wealthy was they always wanted something specific. To him, hair was an art, but these people didn't want art. They wanted the same old same old boring look (and looks are the only thing he doesn't want to be boring), or they wanted absurd levels of extravagance. He wanted to do normal but pleasant hairstyles.
Perhaps a little too distressed over his art, he took to drinking. His father and mother both had drinking problems and so, not blessed with the genetics to handle his alcohol, he became addicted.
It was when he woke up on the floor in a pile of his own not-encouragingly-colored vomit that he decided that enough was a sharding enough.
He tried very hard to quit, but being around the hold kept recalling his old habits and, worse, provided the alcohol. He knew he had to leave, even though there were more and more people able to use his services as hairdressing began to emerge as a more broadly classed service.
When Wardens opened five years ago, he decided that this was a chance, at least. It didn't have the old triggers, it wasn't likely to have alcohol around, and he could have access to plenty of hair for wigs (which were a nice source of income) and people (such as guards and wardens and crafters) on whom he could practice his art.
He also hoped it would be dull as a civilian, exactly what he wanted.

Still, its a job, and he's gotten too rooted to leave after five years.
Other stuff:
I'd love to mess with his head, get a few flings going, accidental kids... Those are always fun.
He's a recovering alcoholic and is trying to stay VERY far away from any liquor. He sometimes wants a drink, though.
