Twilight was beginning to descend upon the wide open Savannah. Soon it would be time to wake her mother so she could do the night hunt. Because of their differences in pelt color, Ramla had found she could more easily hunt during the day and her mother at night. They traveled slowly, but where fairly well fed considering it was just the pair of them.

Their pride was scattered now, and so staying together as a family was more important to them than ever. Her sisters and brothers where gone, her mothers partner, gone. While she hoped to one day see them again, hope was fleeting in this wide open place.

Ramla sat and curled her tail around her paws as she sat and contemplated the events which had changed her life. She couldnt remember much if anything of why the pride fell, but they had been scattered and gathered back together once. The females of her pride where strong, smart, and cunning. They had found eachother again and started new, it could be done again.

Her paws lightly began to knead against the soul, deep inside she knew that it was time to start searching for a new home. The rogue life was not what her or her mother desired. The problem, was finding like minded females. It seemed, for whatever reason, that most thought the males where better hunters, and the females left with the cubs. Those encounters had been baffling at first and now, steadily seemed to be the normal. Which left Ramla irritated and discontent.

"Stupid bird... You're a pest even in death!" 'Safi groaned mutinously to herself as she adjusted the skull she wore.

She had just woken from a brief nap - that was the only way she slept nowadays - to find that she must've knocked the beak of her vulture's skull mask; she could almost see through the right eyehole, but with her left eye, and the left eye hole was currently inhabited by her ear. She continued to grumble to herself as she grabbed the skull's beak and yanked it right.

Sighing, 'Safi rose to her paws. Pricking her ears she caught the sound she was looking for - running water, and nearby. Head low with her ears swiveled to the side, she stalked on. Finding the water - a wide stream - she slaked her thirst and raised her head. Licking her lips, she surveyed her surroundings and noticed two lionesses, one dark and one pale, close by.

Her first reaction was to slink away unseen as she wasn't one for making friends; however, something made her stop - a determined look in the eyes of the paler lioness that clearly said "I am strong".

On a whim, she decided to remain out in the open for a while to see if the lioness would see and approach her. Maybe she wouldn't be so bad..

Ramla huffed a little bit as she looked up into the sky watching the clouds change into bright hued colors as the sun descended and night began to make its way. The air was slowly growing cooler, slightly less humid. All of which was a welcome change.

With a flick of her tail she shook, casting one glance back at her mother and the surrounding area. Free of anyone near by she thought it might be safe to go and get a drink. Seeing a shape toward the stream wasnt a rare sight. They had been using the river as a constant water source for days now, navigating by the shoreline. One thing was true about all life in the Savannah. Water is life. And as such, using this strategy had helped to keep them alive for the mean time. Even this stream had a chance of drying up into nothing.

The fact that the shape was another feline didnt entirely deterr her. Ramla walked, cautiously, towards the stream and kept a wary eye on the white furred new comer. As she got closer, she could see the strange adornment on her head, a small chuckle escaped her. "I bet there is a story behind that." She called out to the leopardess, indicating the skill mask. Though she was wary, she didnt see the harm in attempted conversation, alot could be proven about someone in how they greeted you. At least it wasnt a lowly male sniffing around.

'Safi almost chuckled at the lioness' bold jesting. Almost. Blinking slowly, she raised her head and called out a response.

"Indeed there is. A story of strength, victory, betrayal and nurtured contempt; but that is for another time. Perhaps. I see independence and daring in your gaze. Tell me - do you have a story?"

'Safi was betting she did, and an interesting one at that. Even if that wasn't the case, this female's air was full of confidence and her company was far from repulsive. Although that may be mostly due to the fact that she was, well, a she.

Ramla watched the leopardess a bit, tilting her head to the side and finally leaning down to take a drink from the stream. She listened to her reply, which out of replies that could be given, she found quite acceptable from a stranger. She finished her drink and raised her head, looking up at her with a careful gaze.

"Oh I suppose we all have a story, in our own way. I'm Ramla, pleased to meet you stranger. We havent had many pass our way in some time. You have a good head on your shoulders, well.. I suppose two of them." she smirked a little bit and glanced back towards the still sleeping and sound form of her mother. "Care to share, tale for tale? "

The latest quip actually did bring a smirk to 'Safi's lips. This lioness - Ramla - had clever nerve, and 'Safi was surprised to find herself amused rather than insulted.

Dipping her head, she replied, "That sounds fair, Ramla. My name is Usafi'Kuharibiwa; you may call me 'Safi for short. In regards to him," - 'Safi glanced upwards briefly and tilted her head to indicate the vulture's skull - "he used to be a rather large vulture. He attacked me over the leftover scraps from a meal I had shared with my old mate." She spat the word "mate" as though it were venom on her tongue; Msaliti didn't deserve the word, although she could think of many others to describe the wretch. As the hatred bubbled, her gaze slid subconsciously to stare unfocused at the water.

"After quite the scuffle, I killed the bird... but he left my face horribly scarred. Msaliti, the snake-heart, took one look and left me. He was all I had then, and in my darkest time of need, he ran off." 'Safi could feel the rage building inside her chest, until she was snarling her words with her lips drawn back and her fangs bared, until she could feel her claws uncurling and digging into the ground. Forcing the fur along her spine to lie flat, she calmed her fury and continued. "So, I made a mask of the vulture's skull and wear it always to remind myself of how I was victorious - and to never believe the words of a cowardly, selfish male again."

When she finished, 'Safi blinked to clear her mind and choke back her ire. Lifting her gaze back to Ramla's, she forced her body to relax into a casual posture, retracting her claws and lowering her lips to hide her teeth once more.

Replacing her scowl with a confident grin, she chuckled sarcastically. "A little crazy, perhaps. But where's the fun in being normal, right?" 'Safi didn't push Ramla to relay her own story; for some reason, she trusted the lioness to tell her tale without being pressured.

Ramla sat back on her haunches and listened to the story. Though she tried to keep a calm expression she was angered by how the leopardess' ex-mate had fled and treated her. On some primal level she was completely out raged at the notion. It went against every bone in her body for a male to behave in such a manner, it was not only cruel but displayed no honor. Males such as he had no right in this world.

Clearing her throat some Ramla realized her claws where digging into the soft soil a little bit, and she shrugged her shoulders to lightly sooth herself so her tone would not betray her ire.

"My heart aches for the pain that you have been through, truely. But you have risen from the ashes of your former life into a proud and strong warrior. One day you will find a mate who is your equal in all ways, and males only for breeding when needed." her words might have sounded a little strange with out knowing that in her pride females where bonded to other females. At least that had always been tradition.

Knowing that, Ramla continued, hoping that her story and her traditions where not too confusing to follow. "My homeland was a lush and wonderful jungle. The most highly decorated lions where vibrant in color as the birds in the sky and the flowers that sometimes bloom in this horrid Savannah. We where a matriarchal pride, ruled by a council of head mothers from each of the clans or families. Female joined with female, and the males where only used for breeding and for rearing the children. Though we loved our fathers, sons, nephews. They simply where the weaker of the sexes and didnt have the understanding it took to lead. They had their own section of the pride. One day, sickness began to spread through out the pride, and as it had done in the past it began to take its toll... we fled, broke up into smaller groups we left our home and have been scattered into this land of brutality and ...lack of morals. " her nose wrinkled lightly with distane. "I will never understand this world and what is considered "normal."

'Safi dipped her head gratefully at Ramla's sympathy - another odd behavior, as sympathy (especially when regarding her scars) usually enraged her.

Ramla's comment about mating piqued her interest, and she settled into a sitting position to listen more comfortably. With each word, 'Safi's interest grew, and she found herself longing to be a part of that world; however, Ramla's use of past-tense made her wary, and so she was expecting it when the lioness said that the pride has disbanded. 'Safi was still disappointed nonetheless.

When Ramla finished, 'Safi spoke. "I sympathize with your plight - very unfortunate, indeed. Have you attempted to find other former members?"

'Safi tried to keep her tone as casual and polite as possible with her question; the last thing she wanted to do was offend this lioness, but she was genuinely curious to see if the pride members were trying to reform.

Ramla shook her head a little bit and issued a small sigh, "Sadly, we have scattered to the winds. I havent heard of anyone since we fled. Only my mother and myself. I keep hoping that maybe, around the next bend, or at the next watering hole I'll see someone or hear of them coming through...but its always the same. To tell you the truth I'm beginning to lose hope "

She rolled her shoulders, the cloud of her doubt hanging low over her head but he shook herself and pulled deep into the reserves of her inner strength to pull back and away from the doubt and anger that filled her and back into the present. "Still, we cant be the only ones around. Even if they have changed their ways and gone on to other prides, our blood is out there somewhere. Our values stay with myself and my mother.. Perhaps one day we will start the pride a-new. If not us, then maybe my cubs. " she chuckled and flashed a small smile. "All it takes is finding a few liked minded females and males who truely know their place after all."

Sorry it took so long for me to respond! I kept getting sick, over and over, and I'm only now pulling out of my funk.

To clarify the end of my post here, I'm talking about the Antianeira/Amazon pride. I already have a plot for 'Safi to be found injured by one of their members, so if you decide that Ramla would like to travel with 'Safi to find them, they'll need to be separated for some reason (unless you'd like Ramla and possibly her mother to be injured and found as well). Of course, then it's up to you whether Ramla continues to search for them and whether or not she finds them. c:

'Safi blinked sympathetically at Ramla. She couldn't even begin to imagine how she must feel; 'Safi had always been a Rogue, and all she knew of prides was what she hoped to find. The largest group she'd ever lived with was her family, and they only totaled six!

"Don't lose hope, friend. I'm sure there are many like-minded females in the Rogue Lands, and males can always be taught their place."

Despite her encouraging words, 'Safi couldn't help feeling crestfallen. She had recently overheard two passing male Rogues who had spoken - quite bitterly - of a pride of felines that was virtually entirely female. Of course, they were somewhat affiliated with a pride of entirely males, but those males were only ever interacted with for breeding purposes or for raising male cubs. While 'Safi was sure that she would care for her male cubs, she was also certain that the sight of them would bring her painful memories, and so she agreed that the practice of giving away male cubs was right. 'Safi had been actively seeking the pride ever since, and had hoped that she had found it.

A sudden thought occurred to her, and she described the pride to Ramla. When she had finished, she asked, "Do you know of such a pride? Would you be interested in joining, too?"
