User ImageRainbow Star was regretting ever venturing into the desert. He'd wanted to explore the vast sea of sand, as he'd grown bored with the lush greenery he'd left behind. It'd been hot, and there wasn't much water. He'd found a few plants native to the area and managed to sustain himself on those, but it wouldn't last. The heat wasn't really the issue, his light coat helped keep the glare down...but it was still hotter than he'd imagined. Now, night was settling in as the last of the sun disappeared over the rocky cliffs that surrounded the desert. He knew he'd have to find shelter, it was starting to get cool already.

The stallion walked with his eyes on the ground, afraid of stumbling on rocks or stepping on a snake. He wasn't sure if the snakes here were poisonous or not, but he wasn't about to take chances. He glanced up for a moment, a glint catching his eye. What was that? He made his way closer, spying what appeared to be a gathering. All the soquili in attendance had light coats, most of them were stark white. They all wore scarves around their heads and seemed adorned with bells, their dancing making music.

Rainbow Star skulked closer, wondering if there was food or drink. Maybe he could slip in unnoticed, he was light enough. He slipped close to some drapes, looking at them, then the revelers. He grabbed one of the draperies and slipped it carefully down. It was a light material....but the orange was a pretty loud shade. He slipped back away from the gathering, then tossed his head about to drape the cloth over his head and neck, like how the others wore theirs.

Now, with his clever disguise, the stallion ducked in, being careful to avoid making eye contact with the others. He made a direct line to where the food and drink were, hoping no one would notice him diving in.

Dameer found herself at yet another party listening to the same old stories from the same mares she had grown up with. She craved something different. New stories from new mares or even stallions. She thought to herself that she should be in a better mood. The night was a nice one and cool breeze played with her tail feathers as the stars shown brightly above. Her attention was not on her companions that surrounded her but rather she stared off into the night sky.

Sometimes she wondered why her mother had chosen this life. It seemed rather drab and boring to Dameer. Though the young mare did have to admit she did not want for nothing. Which in the desert was not the typical life. She sighed as she brought her attention back to her companions. It seemed now they were talking about which of the stallions they thought would be the best mates.

Dameer had little interest in any of the single stallions of the Rasheeka. They all seemed stuffy and boring or arrogant and hot-headed to her. Plus she knew them all too well. She wanted something different. "I think there must be better stallions outside the herd," she chimed in. They all started laughing at her comment. Sometimes she wondered why they even talked to her. Of course she knew. She was exotic to them and that was enough to hold their interest.

She glanced around at the stallions. She would be expected to choose a mate soon. If she didn't she could be sure her parents would choose one for her. Her eyes moved from one stallion to the next as she silently said no to each one when she noticed someone she hadn't seen before. "Who is that by the food?" She asked her companions, but none of them seemed to now the answer and they fell to whispers as they tried to figure it out. "I'm going to go find out," she boldly said as she walked away her friends staring silently after her. She headed straight towards the stallion with confidence.
