With all the weirdness about her weapon, Aventine decided she wanted nothing to do with it. It was strange, knowing that this little thing was responsible for the extra power she got when she transformed—and was absolutely, totally useless. In battle, it did little more than serve as a lightweight, fragrant stone, and considering some of her opponents, that seriously wasn't going to fly. The bruises she'd received from her last battle were only just now receding—and that meant it was time for business.

Sheepishly she had contacted Caelian, hoping she wasn't annoying the woman. She at least felt like she had a legitimate request, and had all but begged the woman to come down and spar with her. She trusted Caelian, and it was extremely reassuring to be around someone who knew what they were doing. Sitting on a bench in the park while she waited for the Squire, she didn't even care that she was early, or that the cold was nipping at her exposed skin. She just held her bottle in her hands, lost in thought as she stared into the pink perfume inside. Kicking her feet just slightly, lips pursed, and hunched over, she hardly looked like any sort of warrior—which was great, since right now she definitely didn't feel like one.

Caelian had been rather surprised, but pleased to get the message from the page and made her way over as quickly as possible, shivering in the cold winter air. Her outfit was beautiful, but it wasn’t designed at all for any practical use. It didn’t work well for combat, nor did it work to keep out the elements. It was still a wonder that she hadn’t caught her death outside in the winter.

The Squire gave a wave when Aventine came into view, glad to see the younger woman. “How are you doing? I feel like we’re starting to see one another quite often. I like it. It’s good to feel needed sometimes…and it’s good to travel in pairs, I’ve found. At least for us knights…it’s not like we do much good on our own or anything.”

She waved her powder puff in the air as if to prove her point, sighing slightly. “Oh well…what can I help you with this time, Aventine? Is there any specific things you’d like to focus on while we spar? I’ll admit, I’m still working on the fighting part of all of this. It’s difficult to do anything when all you have is your fists, a powder puff and some pretty purple pumps…”

Aventine glanced over at the older knight and grinned. "Yeah, sorry for always needing you so much. You're just the first person I ever want to go to whenever something's wrong. 'Cause you're a pretty classy lady and I love that outfit," she laughed, trying to stay in good spirits. "Plus, I know you won't beat the crap out of me, and I don't have to be embarrassed if I totally suck."

Not that she totally sucked, but fighting…was still hard for her. Especially when it was so easy to lose. Running away was getting old, but she hardly knew what there even was for her to do.

"So, I…I mean, I don't really know what exactly I need to learn, but—at this point, anything would be good. Just—hit me with your best shot, tell me what I can improve on." She seemed nervous and wished she'd really put more thought into all of this. She had no idea what she wanted to improve on, but jamming people with her elbows and running wasn't doing as much as she wanted it to be. "I mean—I know you've got your powder puff, but…It isn't even fair, is it? I mean, they've got weapons—sharp things, things that hurt! How do you even fight with those things?"

“Believe me, If I knew how to fight better, I would. Right now, I just guess. I feel like I’m the most useless person out there on the battlefield, and I’m still trying to figure out how not to be.”

Caelian looked at her powder puff with an expression that almost qualified as disgust, though looked back up at Aventine soon after. “Then, let’s get started trying to fight. I don’t know. Kicking works for me, and I think it would work for you too. You have a nice heel on your shoe. And hey, worst comes to worst, you could always just stomp hard on their toes and run? That seems to be a safe course of action sometimes.”

The squire thought for a moment, then grinned. “Anyway. Enough lamenting on how uselss our weapons are and let’s get too this. I hope you have some ice at home, because I do go for the feet. All the time.”

She lunged at Aventine, holding her powder puff up, going right for the face as her feet went for Aventine’s toes. Those nice little toes.

Aventine had puffed up her chest and tried to take on a defensive stance before Caelian attacked, but it hardly helped her at all; even with the warning about going for the feet, as soon as Caelian aimed for her face, Aventine was distracted with trying to defend herself.

She raised her arms to block, though her feet were left totally unprotected. When Caelian's foot made contact, the girl yelped and backed up hastily, hopping on one foot. "Oh, s**t, you were serious!" she blurted, tapping her toe quickly onto the ground to try and ease the pain without sitting down and holding her foot.

Okay, so she was just going to have to work a little harder. "Well—don't think you've one yet or anything! I still have a few tricks up my sleeve!"

…A very few.

She didn't want to hurt Caelian; they were friends, but…this was a real battle, and it wasn't like her opponents were going to go easy on her. Caelian's weren't, either. At least they weren't trying to kill each other, though, so being a little rough had to be okay. With a huff and a desire to regain face, she charged at the woman and tried to wind her by elbowing her in the stomach.

She gave a grin. “I told you that much, Aventine. You can’t get stronger from half-assing things.” She didn’t normally curse, but she did feel comfortable enough with the other Venus knight to make an exception this time. “Anyway, if you have tricks you should use them, not just t—“ The elbow met her gut then and she coughed, not having expected that at all. Not even a little bit. But, hey. It was good, at least she was taking advantage of the situation and not letting the wise words of her mentor…you know, be listened to or anything.

One of Caelian’s hands went up, grabbing a fistful of Aventine’s hair, pulling it sharply. No, she wasn’t going to be above hair pulling, not when she was still struggling to get some breath back. “…Cheap…trick.”

She couldn’t help but grin though, taking her free hand and letting it say hello to Aventine’s gut in retaliation. Two could play at that game.

She didn’t like hurting her friend, not really…but still. Better her than some general waiting in the dark. Always better a fight with a friend than with a real foe.

Aventine meant to reply that she certainly couldn't count something hidden up her sleeve as a cheap trick—but then again. It kind of was.

She yelped when Caelian pulled her hair and grunted when she knocked her in the gut, and while it hurt it wasn't enough to make her pull out. The force of it made her stumble back a bit and suddenly she became very aware of something missing.

Time seemed to move slower for a minute as her mind raced to figure out just what was different—and the sound of glass shattering immediately garnered her attentinon. Though she and Caelian were in the midst of sparring, she couldn't do anything but think about her perfume bottle, lying there in pieces.

"Caelian!" she yelped, not mad that she had been hit or might be sporting a bald patch. She cried out because she was scared, and didn't have any idea what to do. "Oh my God, Caelian, what have I done! It's broken! I mean, it was kind of useless," she admitted as the strong aroma of perfume wafted through the air, "But I—It was mine, it was special…what do I do?" she asked, holding her hands back to show that this wasn't a cheap trick; she needed a quick time-out.

Caelian stared at the broken bottle for a moment and took a step away from Aventine. “First just calm down, okay? Just take a deep breath, this isn’t going to be the end of the world.” Right? She wasn’t just trying to calm the other girl down, she was sure of herself. Maybe. Maybe. What should she do? Call Camelot? Have Aventine power down and power back up? Would that fix the bottle?

For as calm as she was trying to appear, Caelian felt completely the opposite of that. “Can you…try fixing it? Willing it to be fixed, maybe? Try…focusing on it…and maybe your power can put it back together…I mean, maybe this is supposed to happen sometimes? That’s why it was made of glass, right? If it breaks…maybe it’s just no big deal?”

Her hands felt sweaty and she almost wanted to throw up.

What had she done?

"Maybe," Aventine replied, sounding a bit rushed; she forced herself to calm down, though right now her heart felt like it was pounding in her head. "I mean, it seems silly to give me something glass, right? I couldn't do anything with it before, maybe now I'm just supposed to stab people!" she sounded stressed and hardly happy about the idea but…

…But maybe she could do more damage with this anyway.

Wait—no! No! She liked her pretty little perfume bottle and she wanted it back. With a shaky breath she squeezed her eyes shut and tried to focus—tried to will it back together. After a few seconds of nothing, she opened an eye just a crack and gasped when the shattered pieces disappeared entirely. They were gone for only a split second when a bottle appeared in her hands, and she was so ready to cheer—until she realized it was not the same bottle.

So disappointed that it hadn't been the one she'd just broken, she was pouting, worrying—and didn't even seem to realize that the second the new bottle appeared in her hand, her outfit had changed. Her power signature had changed.

Page Aventine was gone; in her stead, Squire.

Still, she seemed totally ignorant of it. "I think something's wrong with it," she said unhappily, still looking the new bottle over in her hands.

Caelian’s eyes nearly popped out of her head when the transformation took place and she stared at the new squire for a good few moments before it dawned on her that Aventine didn’t seem to have a clue what had just happened to her. The squire began to laugh and shook her head. “Look at yourself, Aventine. Look at yourself then tell me that something’s wrong with your weapon, because,” She chuckled some more, shaking her head.

“I see nothing wrong with it, what so ever.” She felt a fierce sense of pride. Her friend had become a Squire! That was just wonderful! And she was there to see it happen…It just…Caelian let out another little laugh and lunged at Aventine, hugging her tightly. “I’m so proud of you!”

Her eyes misted over a little bit. It was almost as grand a moment as when Millie had first learned to walk, or said Mama, or went off to school.

Oh she was just so happy. So very happy.

Aventine just seemed confused for a moment longer, and then a very dull, "Oh," slipped from her lips. A few seconds passed, and then she repeated the phrase—though much more delighted. "Caelian!" she exclaimed, squeezing the woman back. "—What, I don't even. Let me smash this thing on the ground, let's see if that helps any more!"

…She sounded a little too excited to be breaking her weapon again, and had she not already had both arms wrapped around Caelian she might have hurdled her new bottle to the ground. "—I owe you so much," she said, all traces of disappointment gone. "Caelian, you really just are the best. Oh—you want a spritz! I wonder if it still smells the same! I wonder if it can do anything! …It seems like a better shape for hitting, so there is that," she mused, still just giddy.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 27, 2013 11:19 am

“No! No more smashing, jeeze. You already gave me one heart attack from that, I don’t need another one.” She hugged Aventine tightly again, then pulled away. “How about we save the spritzes for another night. Let’s go and get ice cream now. I really think you deserve it.” She looked around then allowed herself to power down, just beaming. “I can’t wait to see what happens with you in the future, Aventine…now come on! I’m buying for this celebration, okay?”

She grinned, feeling relieved. It was ture that practice could do anything…and now her friend was a Squire, just as she was. How amazing was that?

“We should do this again sometime, just no breaking your weapon again, deal?”

“Oh, I like the way that sounds!"

How could she not prefer ice cream over sparring? Her own heart could use a break and, following suit, she powered down next to Bellatrix. Ice cream on its own sounded good, but if Bellatrix was treating it was even better. "How about, I promise I'll try not to break it. I'm going to have to get used to that new bottle but, there is a time and place for everything and I am quite confident it is not now. But definitely, definitely we should get together to do this again! But ice cream, now!"

She took the woman's hand and playfully tugged her towards her favorite ice cream place, all too eager to get going with this celebration.
