Amarus had one outfit (well, one and a dress in tatters). It was the one that she wore, day after day. She liked it, quite a lot, and it was a lot prettier than her old clothing (thanks to the influence of some lovely ghouls). However, she had recently realized it might do her some good to at least have a choice should she need to change. It probably had something to do with Zel, but regardless, someone had idly commented that what she wore looked more like a costume than "normal clothing."

At which point she had to ask: Costume?

This event was coupled with, weeks later, an outing to the Maul during which someone had asked her if she got her costume from the bootique in the maul, Pins and Needles; "scaring up a fashionably frightening time!" the door read, when she finally managed to locate it somewhere near a fountain in the arteries of Maul. Jack, did Amarus ever loathe the Maul. She was forever getting lost in it.

And so, weeks after that she had finally made a stab at roping a group into going. Even some students she had previously either not known, or had taken to tormenting. She had even asked adorable Olivia to come along. It would be totally okay with her if Zel helped her pick something out.

Besides, costumes just sounded fun, and she was going to be a pain to everyone there. Almost definitely. She had figured out how to take photos using her eyePhone, and planned on recording a slew of them. Amarus was waiting for everyone near the front of the Maul, sitting on the edge of a fountain, cross-legged. At her feet was a pile of fur.

Actually, it was a row of those very same foxfires she'd 'borrowed' before, all roped together and asleep on top of their sled. It was still made of cardboard. But now, they could use it to carry things instead of screaming gnomes.

"Squibble, I hope you are having ferocious dreams," she whispered to one of the foxfires. Her favourite one, from the race. He was the vicious champion delinquent that had peed on the other foxfires, asserting his dominance. He had also tried to pee on several potted plants in the Maul on their way in, but she had more or less kept him at bay.

More or less. A pouf's bladder could not be denied. And no one would notice, right?

Her own foxfire, Ashbel, was asleep in her lap. It seemed like he was going to explore a little, with her. Also she planned on putting him in embarrassing costumes. Perhaps she would dress him as some sort of bee.

It was totally possible that either through word of mouth, or through roping in people she didn't even know, Amarus wouldn't exactly have kept the most strict "guest list" for the event. All in all, she had zero clues who would be showing up-- she just hoped she recognized most of them, and also that Pins and Needles was bigger on the inside than the out.

HI GUYS! <3 I do not know who all is invited [[WELL EVERYONE CAN COME NOW, people reading this potentially who we didn't talk to yet!]], so just... pass this around to whoever, and TIGGYTIG can join in later if she should so desire, as I know she is busy right now!

Again, anyone who wants to join in but didn't get a direct quote it's totally chill Amarus is expecting to maybe not know everyone...!

Zel had made a point of actually dressing half decently today, and by half decently, that meant dress slacks, a good pair of boots and a nice button down shirt that he kept open at about two buttons. The Cornugon flexed his wings and brought them in close to his body, his tail curling close as he entered the Maul. His eyes started to seek out his ghoulfriend automatically as he crossed the threshold, his feet moving of their own accord.

He was actually looking forward to this outing at the maul. He was going to get to see his ghoulfriend model different costumes and he'd help her pick out which ones she was going to take home... Probably buy her a few himself really. Maybe a few for her to keep at his dorm if she wanted to stay over again or... something.

He'd worry about that later.

Spotting her and... was that a... pack of foxfires? He moved toward her, brow raised a bit in question as he made it a point of avoiding the pile o' poufs and sitting next to Amarus, his arm wrapping around her back, he leaned in and kissed her - taking pains to avoid the foxfire in her lap - before smiling.

"Hello luv, who else are we waiting on?" He wasn't sure if she had an actual list of people in mind or if they were waiting for any one person in particular.

His tail slipped behind her and the tip curled around her hip, scooting her a little closer to him as he sat there with her.

Text From: Amarus
Hey we're meeting at Pins & Needles in the Maul - wanna come?

The Maul?

Augh.

Amrita and Mauls generally didn't mix: It involved clothes and salescreatures and others who were trying to poke and prod and pick and tug to get the clothing to fit just right. There were non-clothing stores in the Maul though, she knew that simply because she worked in one; the Minipet store. The fact was, if someone was inviting her to the maul, it was because of clothes.

The Patchwork had been about to text back a quick decline when she paused, staring down at her dress. It...was her only dress right now, at least one that fit her that wasn't torn to shreds due to her, uh, active lifestyle. Okay, so, maybe she should go...just this once. Besides, Amarus was a fellow Black Kingdom creature, and it would be nice to keep in touch with them, even if that world brought up a whole slew of terrible, confusing memories.

So instead she started to text back with a new answer, but just as she did, her phone dinged once more--

Quote:

Text From: Amarus
Also, its BYOB - Bring your own boilfriend.
I'm not a packmule

...Bring your own boilfriend?

Amrita's expression fell, staring at her phone with a lidded stare that was almost bored. Boilfriend. She had one of those, didn't she? They hadn't broken up yet, but they might as well have; he was about as attentive as a rock lately. Not only that, but he----

Augh.

No.

Just. Stop.

She shook her head to clear her thoughts, which immediately drifted to a certain someone else---

No.

Quote:

Text To: Amarus
I'm in. Coming alone, sorry.

Her tattered old bag was grabbed, her skelephone tucked into her bra and her wits were gathered before she made her way to the damned Maul, steeling her resolve to survive the day and maybe, hopefully, get some more clothes.

Upon arrival she spotted the Lotus Eater's familiar pink with a----

"Ah! They are adorable!" Amrita squeaked upon seeing the pack of foxfires, her backward hands crossing to entwine her fingers. Minipets were one of her weaknesses...and there was a herd of them here!

Olivia wasn't sure to expect when she got the invitation to go to the Maul with Amarus. Fun in the least, because if she remembered anything from the islands, they had gotten into some great trouble. Shopping also. But, that probably wasn't the best thing to throw the young ghoul into. Especially when she didn't even know the size of the place. How it compared to the mauls back home was a mystery to her; they were small with a few stores and mostly essential items and probably nothing like the one near Amity. Her wallet was probably going to cry.

It didn't stop her, in the least, from going, dressed in her usual attire of drab colored puffy skirt and lolita flair of clothing. Because, if there was anyone else that needed possible new clothes it probably was her; and her lack of sense of fashion. Really, all that was in her closet were pretty much the same thing, over and over, usually only off by a shade or two and perhaps one had bows. Just all the same. All of it, as little as she had.

Olivia arrived at the maul, all ready and set to meet Amarus at the appropriate place until she well... arrived. And stood gaping at the entrance like one of those Scream monsters. It was... gigantic. And there were so many creeple. And it was gigantic! It looked bigger than her whole town.

It was amazing!

She walked through like that, mouth open like there was something wrong with her and her eyes wide and taking it all in. This was like stepping into school for the first time version 2.0. Olivia shared this sentiment when she finally came across the familiar looking Amarus and the slightly familiar looking Zel and the totally not familiar looking Amrita (after turning down the wrong way a few times and staring at the directory a few good minutes). "This place is big."

Then she looked down, "they're so puffy."

This was going to be great, she could already tell.

Miasma didn't even NEED an invitation to go to the maul. SHE WAS GOING ANYWAYS.
A ghoul could never have enough outfits, and it probably didn't help that the closet could fit an inifinite amount of items, along with her small herd of butterfly-winged minis.

Rather than meet up at the designated location, she had...taken a little side-trip of her own, and by the time she arrived at Pins and Needles, she already had a few bags in hand.

Eyeing the small group in front of the bootique, she recognized Olivia, and that ghoul from Professor Selene's class, and... she assumed that demon was her boilfriend, but the patchwork ghoul was given a weary glance as she headed towards them.

Hearing a bark, she paused, looking down to see... a lot of foxfires.
What in the...
Seeing as the pink-haired ghoul had one in her lap, she assumed they belonged to her, and gave her an incredulous look.

"Are we even allowed to bring minipets to the maul?"
Not to mention so many... and... was that a sled?
PostPosted: Wed Feb 27, 2013 9:53 am

If there was a rule against bringing minipets to the mall Molan had missed it as well. A lone shion was idly sitting on his shoulder as he walked in the maul, still scanning the text he'd received on his eyePhone. He hadn't particularly been expecting an invitation from Miasma to come, nor had he fully been sure he'd come. Until he found out that the little pet on his shoulder had managed to make an absolute mess of his room by managing to get into the cabinets and raiding it for treats. Which was why it got to come with today. So it couldn't cause more trouble. Thus the creature was dozing away on his shoulder as he wandered through.

As for the text, surprising as it was, he decided to come along after staring a bit he'd finally stated he'd come. He could clear up that bit of a misunderstanding and see about maybe looking at some of the more common outfits people wore. Because apparently he stuck out a bit. Maybe not in a bad way, but perhaps something normal wouldn't hurt. They were apparently going to a clothing store? Perhaps he could find something interesting. If nothing else apparently they were going to be with to help some ghouls with choosing. Not that he was some kind of lady crazy fool, but he certainly didn't mind the thought of helping give opinions though. Even if he wasn't sure who all was coming. All he really knew was that Mia was there and some others. And the general context, so... well it was an adventure in hopefully not being a pack mule. Again.

Nor did he know it came with a 'bring your boilfriends' context. Oh that would be a fun misunderstanding to explain perhaps.

He slowly wandered through the maul, careful to avoid the kiosks this time. He'd learned they were trouble to be near. Apparently he was the slowest to arrive, having gotten lost at least once in the maul as he noticed there were already five of them there. Two ghouls he didn't know, a boil, and... both Miasma and Olivia. The latter was a bit surprising, but he didn't stress over it. A small smile was offered as he noticed the small army of foxfires and a sled.

He wasn't sure he approved of the sled, but his eyes did light up a bit as he saw them, shifting to kneel down to see about petting one. "Oh, aren't they darling." He chimed happily, seeing if one would let him give it a light scratch under the chin before looking to the crowd, offering a small nod to Miasma and Olivia. "Afternoon." Then a quick look to the other three as well. Apparently... they had a crowd.

Amarus either didn't notice her boilfriend's raised brow, or didn't mind it, because she didn't react much about it, though she did notice that he was avoiding the foxfires. She smiled as she kissed him back, and teased: "You're not afraid of my pile of foxfires, are you?"

Then, leaning back to tilt her head and regard him, her bells ringing, she added: "Oh, just everyone," with a vague sort of hand motion as if shooing away the need to clarify. She leaned her head against his shoulder briefly as he sat with her to wait. Amarus felt her eyePhone vibrate and it whispered something at her. She'd recently learned how to record sounds and use them as text alerts. From inside her pocket, it wasn't clear whose voice it was, or what they were saying. But it definitely sounded like a voice clip.

She dug it out of her inner robe and swiped at the screen, revealing a text from Amrita. She was confused when the ghoul said she'd be coming alone, until she saw the other text which she'd definitely not sent Amrita. "'I'm not a packmule'?" Amarus mused aloud, holding her phone screen up so that Zel could see it. She punched his shoulder lightly.

"That's what the foxfires are for!" she told him.

Amrita was here! That was fast. "Hello, Amrita-- it is a pleasure to see you again," she said, rising to bow to the pretty patchwork ghoul, hands clasped in front of her, still holding onto her eyePhone. Her face broke into a smile. "Perhaps you can help me keep them in check? They will be our knights in shining armour today-- in so far as knights carry shopping."

And then Olivia! Amarus felt her lack-of-heart swell with excitement. She leaped off of the fountain edge after squeezing Zel's shoulder to let him know she was still thinking of him, and darted over to Olivia, attempting to scoop the in-awe ghoul up and spin her around. "I am so happy to see you, Olivia," she said. "I really mean that! I can feel things, now," she told the ghoul, beaming, as if it was a secret she was telling her. "...can I dress you up in cute things?" Amarus asked, excitedly.

She had returned to the group, attempting to drag Olivia back hand-in-hand, when Miasma showed up, rearranging herself foxfire in lap. Ohh, it was the pretty ghoul from their class, the one she'd thrown things at. So much fun!

"Hello, cute ghoul, I think--" she was about to say she thought she knew her from Selene's class, when Miasma suggested that they couldn't bring minipets into the Maul. "There are rules here? Who would reinforce them? Who would care?" she asked, in disbelief.

Then, as if connecting invisible and irrational dots, she accused: "You're just jealous you didn't think of a foxfire sled for shopping bags first!" And she paused, before looking at her boilfriend, and whispering: "I'm going to invite her, but I still think you are cuter, okay?" She was just teasing him, but she paused briefly to press the tip of her nose against his and smile before turning back to Miasma and rising to her feet. Well, to an inch below her feet, because she walked above the floor. "If you come to Pins and Needles with us, you can put your bags on our sled!" Amarus offered.

The foxfires clearly loved the arrival of a new boil. Squibble even leaped up at his face, attempting to lick it. Amarus' own foxfire woofed and wagged his tail; Amarus looked down at Ashbel and pet him, leaning to whisper: "Traitor," with a smile. She set him down on the fountain edge and greeted the new boil. "Hello! Are you here for costumes?" she asked, clapping her hands together.

"And, ah, might anyone know how many ... we are expecting?"

Amarus was a failure at organization.

The Maul. It had to be the worst place.

Jove never enjoyed the heavy crowds, or the loud atmosphere of the maul. As a small boil he always had to weave through the throngs of people, as a canine the smells of cologne and strong soaps sold in shops were an assault on his nose. Neither was an easier thing to manage when he arrived at the maul for his errands, even though instead of a child's form he appeared older, a more composed, more dignified boil of about sixteen.

He wouldn't have come if it weren't for those errands. He needed more snackies for his foxfires, and was completely unable to coerce any friends into making the trip for him. No matter how sternly he ignored those little fluffs in his room, they would all just staaaare, and he understood their body language better than most. He couldn't possibly go another day without snackies. That was his most pressing reason for the maul. If he couldn't take it after picking up the snackies, he would head home.

What the boil didn't anticipate was the scent of foxfire inside the maul itself once he entered the doors. Or seeing Amrita, along with a group of ghouls and one lone boil. Only one other student looked familiar, someone he had met once before. He had been in his natural form back then, but he didn't think Amarus would recognize him looking the way he did now, with all his fine-trimmed coats and ruffles and bows. Little foxfires did not make very inspiring gentlemen, until they dressed up nice.

As he approached he realized where the scent of foxfire was coming from. The group had with them a whole herd of little fluffs. Jove wanted to go meet them, but he did his best to restrain himself, and approach at a calmer pace. Would Amrita recognize him?

"I'll try, Amarus...but it's been a while since I've tried to control a pack of poofs!" And by a 'while', she meant never. She had never tried to control a pack of poofs. She did have experience herding a fire breathing/sneezing/coughing/barfing Death Charm, though...what could possibly be worse than that?! "Good to see you again, though! You're looking well." There may have been a knowing glance cast towards Zel.

Amrita noticed others approaching, a couple she recognized but the majority drawing nothing but a complete blank from her memory banks. It wasn't difficult to make new friends, and being a third year she felt it was something of a duty of hers to meet and greet the younger, newer crowds...and maybe warn them that their school was actually full of crazy. The bad kind of crazy. That was a warning better left for another time, and besides...there was a herd of poofs here, with a shed! THEY WERE THE CUTEST THINGS EVER!

"There's no rule against it..." Amrita said innocently to Miasma, a ghoul she didn't quite recognize. "Besides, I work at the Minipet store further down, we have plenty of excuses as to why they're here!" She chirped happily enough, petting and ruffling the fur of one of the more energetically eager pups. There was a moment where she looked like she was going to detach herself from the pups and actually introduce herself, but as she did her gaze drifted to someone roughly her age, lingering on the outskirts of their little group but approaching at a careful pace.

She knew that boil! Oh gosh but she didn't, too! He looked so different from the people she was used to seeing but his name was on the tip of her tongue...augh...who was he...

"...Jove?!" She gasped out suddenly, one backwards hand pointing through the crowd at the poor ghost boil. The Patchwork ghoul hopped to her backwards feet, not even bothering to dust off her stitched knees before she made her way through the crowd, stopping a pace or two in front of her old lunch buddy. "Oh my Jack ... Jove, is that really you?! You look-" Her head tilted but her hands moved, seemingly at a loss for words. The last time she recalled seeing this boil was when he was a small boil...when he hadn't changed since the time she was a small ghoul and they'd eaten sandwiches together outside.

"...Wow~" She finished almost lamely, merely gesturing to all of him as if that would help her find her words. "You've really grown up! When did this happen?" Amrita, in her excitement, may have forgotten that Jove was a boil of very few words.

--Grey Dragon
PostPosted: Tue Mar 05, 2013 5:42 pm

Jove's ears perked, and he stopped dead in his tracks as Amrita began to point. Had he not known the ghoul for her kind and gentle nature he might have turned and ran. Instead he let her approach, ears flicking at her lack of words. She seemed as flabbergasted to see him in this form as he had been when she got her new body. When they had met they were about the same height, and now once again they could look each other in the eye.

His tail wagged and he shyly glanced at his feet. He hadn't expected so much praise, and it was a bit of a shock to hear the amazement in her voice. In all honesty the 'growth spurt' had been happening since his first year exams. It took a lot of practice for the little foxfire to take on a larger form, and get used to how the taller body moved. Perhaps Amrita also understood what naturally-growing creatures could take for granted.

The pup gave a shy, bashful glance in the direction of the group. Usually only Ren was that open with praise, and in front of so many strangers... Maybe he could just introduce himself to those foxfires, and forget about his sudden nerves. Ghosts didn't really have nerves, he told himself, but that still didn't make his blushing go away.

Amrita only smiled at him at first, not seeming to mind - or perhaps even notice - his silence. That tail wag and that blush seemed to answer her questions, and when his gaze moved hers followed it back to the group.

"Oh! We're going to this costume shop, I guess for fun." Amrita made a face; she really didn't like mauls and clothing stores but...it was a group thing, and it seemed like a decent enough time, so she had come along regardless. "Hey! Here's an idea, would you like to join us, Jove? You don't have to dress up if you don't want to, but if you're not busy...I think it could be fun?"

Yes, when Amarus had seen Jove it was a long time ago, and he had been a foxfire. His ears now, and his coloration, might stir some slumbering memory inside her but even if it did, she wouldn't be able to place exactly where she had seen him, or when. She was left only with the vague sensation of having seen him before, somewhere. Amarus slipped through their gathering group to go see Jove as Amrita had already made her way to him.

She came by about in time to hear that Amrita 'guessed' it was for fun. "Of course it is for fun, Amrita-- what other motivators have you known me to have? Certainly not academic success," she replied, wrinkling her nose. Her face was mirror-blank again, silver eyes calculating as she looked Jove over. "We have met?" Amarus suggested. "I ask because you seem familiar, but I can't figure it out, not even close."

Amarus paused a moment, thought it over, and nodded to herself as if agreeing that something had to be done. That something was a smile. "If you met me before, I wasn't nearly the same as I am now. But that's how it is every time one leaves for long enough, right? You should come with us, Jove; I promise not to put too many silly things on you."

Amarus bowed slightly, the bells on her head ringing, and clasped her hands in front of her. She excused herself so that they could continue speaking alone if they wanted, and returned to the group she'd slipped out of. On her way back through, she attempted to ruffle Miasma's hair and then pretend it was an accident, cuddle Olivia fiercely for the tiniest of moments and then kiss Zel lightly on the cheek, slipping the fingers of one hand down his other cheek, smiling faintly.

"If nobody knows anyone else on their way, why don't we head over now? We can leave a note!.. someone that is not me can leave a note," she suggested, and then amended. Writing: she didn't even do it in school.

Olivia hadn't expected to see Mia nor Molan when she arrived on this little trip. Either if it was their intentions or not to join the group, the ghoul gave them both a very cheery smile before she was grabbed and spun around. This was beginning to become common with Amarus is seemed, but it was never unwelcomed and the small wight couldn't help but giggle a little.

"Hello, Amarus!" she chirped in response when her feet met back with the ground. Her eyes blinked for a moment, trying to understand her happy statement, unsure of what she meant by feeling. Had she not before? Honestly, Olivia hadn't noticed any lack of it on the islands but if it was something new then of course the ghoul would be happy for her friend. She gave the ghost a wide smile, hearing the excitement in her tone and gave her an equally happy nod, "that would be fun."

Of course there was no protest as she was pulled by the other ghoul back into the folds of the group. Her smile amused as she watched the further interactions between them all. It was almost like a ping pong match, watching her head turn this way and that as she caught all the conversations around her - and she couldn't see why it would be much of problem with having the adorable little foxfires around, they seemed to like Molan as well.

She continued to watch curiously and in her usual quietness as another boil was spotted by the ghoul she still had yet to know, it seemed that the two of them hadn't seen each other in some time (noting from the words... well, what Amrita was saying) and possibly with Amarus was well? Or at least they knew him, she wasn't sure as she stood with the others from a distance. It didn't stop the warm smile she held on her features, the more the merrier for her if he chose to go with them - even if she wasn't the one to make such decisions.

Because, it wasn't like she knew anyone else that would possibly be coming. The ghoul hadn't invited anyone, not even realizing it was possible - was that what that other text had meant?

(She was also beginning to like these cuddles).

A costume store? Dressing up? Jove's tail wagged, and he offered a slight nod. He did like dressing up, and he had enough fun at it while shopping with Lizzy and Levi that one time. It was a real pleasure for the boil to try on new clothing, as long as it wasn't itchy or uncomfortable, and there was only so much fun to be had wearing his brother's clothes. Maybe if he found a nice sweater he could buy something new, instead of 'borrowing' hand-me-downs.

Looking around the group again, he noticed there were two boils, not just one. And the one he had missed even looked like another canine, so he wouldn't be lonely in his dressing up. Did those two enjoy the maul too?

Although he could open up a bit more with Amrita, Jove was a little shy as Amarus approached and gave him a look over, fidgeting nervously even though by all accounts he should be perfectly confident. He was a third year, was he not? Except if she remembered where they met she would remember the tiniest of little foxfires watching her in the woods. It was a relief when she continued. They definitely were different from who they had once been, and the young gentleman was pleased by the elegant way it had been stated.

Now... silly things? That would be an entirely new reason for dismay! He shot a glance towards Amrita, a hesitant and questioning glance. He wouldn't be unduly embarrassed today, would he?

Amrita actually pouted when the lack of academic motivation came up. "But Amarus--If you don't study, what kind of future can you have!" It was a rhetorical question really, at least that was how she meant it to be. The ghoul herself studied very hard when her life wasn't being threatened, and was actually terrified of making it in the big bag world; after all, the only thing she knew how to do properly was fight, thanks to how often she had to do it. What kind of normal life could she live, with all the things she was tangling herself up in?

She shook her head to physically clear her own thoughts, just in time to hear Amarus' comment about silly things, and also just in time to see the look Jove gave her.

"Err...I can't promise she won't..." The Patchwork's voice was just as hesitant as the look she was being given, though hers was more mixed with dread; she believed Amarus would make a lot of silly dress ups! "Buuut...if it'll make you feel better I think everyone is gonna be wearing silly things at some point today." A heavy sigh later and the ghoul held out her arm, offering it to Jove like some sort of Gentleman.

"If you're still interested, come on! I'm sure it'll be...something!"
