Amarus had probably borrowed the book. Borrowed, yes, not stolen or purloined or snuck out of the library when no one was watching. Perhaps. It would not be outside of her character to have just smothered the book in a pillowcase and snuck it out, however. One way or another, she certainly did not own any of her own cookbooks, and she had a dilemma which she needed help with.
It involved a complicated recipe, this book, and Junko. Amarus was not particularly good at reading, and most of her baking skill was accidental-- Xiu had helped her discover it was even possible one day, when she had tried to back cupcakes for the ghoul at the Baking Club booth. It had gone strangely well...! Anyway, here she was, trying to escalate her baking knowledge: she didn't actually read recipes, she memorized them.
This one was both difficult to read and impossible to decipher. But the harder the challenge, the more she wanted to try. So she had somehow located Junko and asked for her help. Amarus had set up shop in the home ec area, with permission (for once), and had the book open to a page marked: Patience Cake.
Patience? Well, this was going to be great.Eight So it took me, what, a month to start this OTL I lost the document I was using to record who I owed PRPs to, and dug through plot threads to figure it out = x=;; If you don't really want to do this RP any more given it's been so long, I understand? ; u;...

Junko had eagerly accepted the request to help Amarus with some baking. She loved it! And she'd never actually hung out with Amarus before, only seen her around events, so she was more than happy to spend some time with the ghoul. But now she was staring at the pictures of the cake. How...what.. ...Challenge accepted. "You're sure this is the cake you want to start with?" Junko would do it if Amarus was absolutely sure, but it seemed like quite the cake for a beginner! Face your demons DON'T WORRY I TOTALLY STILL DO sorry I took so long to reply u.u

Amarus wasn't someone who scaled herself well. She had started by making cupcakes, and it had gone unusually well-- from that, she had moved into spookies, brownies, and other simple baked goods. This time, however, the cake Amarus would probably think of as the Frustration Cake had gotten her attention.
And she pretty much never expressed anything other than surety, in whatever her endeavours. If she set one foot forward, that was the direction she'd take. Besides, Junko always seemed to her as some kind of supreme being (an upperclassman with so much hair, maybe?) and as such Amarus was fully confident that if anyone could help her bake, it would be Junko.
A wicked smile spread across Amarus' face, and her mirror-silver eyes glinted. "I am very sure. Why, do you think it's too difficult for us?"
Naturally, she'd phrase it so they were a team. If she'd asked if it was too difficult for her own self, naturally the answer should have been YES.Eight AS YOU CAN SEE I am perpetually slow lol *sob*

"..Um...it's certainly different," Junko chuckled nervously, giving everything a quick check to make sure they had it all. She was confident in her cooking and baking skills to pull it off, and she believed Amarus could do it as well, but this cake's actual construction would definitely be a test of patience. They could totally do this, and if it didn't look like the picture that was totally okay. "Okay. Let's do this." They totally had this. Face Your Demons I'M SO SORRY OHGOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

Amarus tilted her head, regarding Junko. She smiled briefly, a lightning flash of amusement, and then looked back at their ingredients. "Before we begin, I have one request," Amarus started, picking up a measuring cup and staring at its little etched quantity marker. "If you begin to feel frustrated, please stand closer to me," she instructed.
Okay, so it was a patience cake, and it was supposed to be tough, and it was supposed to get on their nerves, but... with a Lotus Eater around, why not abuse her natural ability? After all, how many people could cheat at being patient? Amarus set the cup down, folded her hands into one of the kuji-kiri to center herself, and then picked the measuring cup back up.
"Shall we each take one of the flavours?" she suggested.

"Stand closer to you?" Junko blinked. She was tying her sleeves back so they wouldn't get in the way by accident. That was a strange request. What was the reasoning behind that? She knew nothing about Lotus Eaters, apparently. As Amarus made a strange symbol with her hands Junko watched curiously. What was that for? "All right. Since this is your cake, I'll let you pick what flavor you want to deal with."

Amarus' eyes glinted; a ghost of a smile was passing across their silvery irises. "Yes. I once thought that perhaps the way that I am made is entirely a burden, but it turns out that my aura produces a sort of... calming effect," she tried to explain, with a vague hand gesture. She removed the outer robe she was wearing, and also used thread to secure the loose fabric of her inner robe.
"Hmm..." Amarus reached up and tugged at the teardrop shaped crystal at her throat, as she thought, her eyes focused on some distant point. "I'll take the tea one," she said. Because it reminded her of... Amarus paused, shutting her eyes for a moment. A point of pain so precise it felt like a needle pricking through layers of buried memory: Conquest, Faustus and Olivia, the tea room.
Everything lost. Everything but Olivia; at least Amarus could still see the ghoul. She smiled to herself and began to arrange her own ingredients. "Are you ready?" she asked. That left the Cassis flavouring.
