Welcome to the H.U.B. Character Exchange Program! It's like a foreign exchange student program, but with role-play characters instead. Here, you can let someone borrow a character of yours briefly to see how they interpret him or her. Or, you can try out a character type that you normally wouldn't write with. You can ask for critiques, challenges, or just write something for a bit of brain exercise.
What you need to do in order to join is post one of your own characters that you don't mind others borrowing. Then, choose another character in the program and state that you'll try working with them. Write a scene or short story featuring the exchange character, then post in this thread. If you want, you can also offer critiques and comments about other stories posted. Most of all, have fun!
If you want to make pretty graphics for this, that'd be wonderful!

Rules for the Exchange Program
1. Keep all material at a PG-13 level.
2. If the character's owner has asked for restrictions on use, respect that.
3. Exchange characters you borrow are only to be used IN THIS THREAD. You are borrowing another's character; do not use it outside of the Exchange Program.
4. Minimum length for scenes/stories is 200 words.
5. You may use your own characters in a scene with an exchanged character, but the focus should be on the exchange character.
6. Don't make the scene/story an insult to or disrespectful of the exchange character. Treat them as you would one of your own.
7. Don't get angry about an interpretation being 'wrong'. There is a risk in letting your character be used by someone else, so be mindful of that.
8. If you disagree with someone or don't want a scene or story kept up, let me or a crew member of the guild know. Don't start an argument or flame exchange in this thread.

Character Requirements
In order to use your character, we need to know about him or her! You may post a sign-up sheet from a game, but here is a basic form for use.
Name: Obviously, we need to know what to call the character. Gender: This helps too. Age: What you generally use. Can be left blank, and the writer can change this.
Physical Description: A picture or text, whichever is your preference.
Personality: Very important in a character exchange so that the writer knows what to write about. How your character acts and feels, what their goals usually are, personal preferences, their philosophy...
Setting: Does this character have a particular setting, fandom, or genre of game he or she is used in? Could also put 'general' if you don't mind.
Restrictions: Is there something that you don't want this character to be doing? Make a note of it so that the writer knows. It's best if there's not too many restrictions.
Other fields, like powers or pets, can be added as needed or preferred.

Posting Scenes or Stories
When you want to write something, you can make a post stating that you'll be borrowing the character you picked. You don't have to, but it'd be nice. Take what time you need, making sure to edit as you would for a regular role-play.
When your scene or story is done, post it in this thread with this format:
Exchange Character: Character's Owner: Critique: Yes or no if you want someone following the thread to post a critique of how you did.
(Scene/Story)
You can also ask for some advice in the critique field if you want, on particulars or in general.
You may also request a challenge when using a character, adding conditions to what you write. Challenges can be issued by myself, a thread judge, or the character's owner. Another thing you may request is a duel, where you exchange characters with another person and write scenes that are judged by a third party (one of the thread judges).

Thread Judges
Thread Judges are folks who regularly contribute to this thread, issuing challenges, giving critiques, and deciding the winner of a duel. Want to be one? You'll need a character who is in the exchange program, give at least one critique, and then ask me by PM to be one. It would help if you gave proof of your experience with writing or role-playing in your request to be a judge, so that I know that you know what you're doing.

Well since I started this, I'll add one of my own. biggrin I normally tailor each character to each game. On some occasions, I do reuse characters. This fellow is the one I reuse most often.
Name: Polaris Starr Gender: male Age: varies
Physical Description: Polaris is average weight and height for a guy, usually Caucasian. He has no notable scars. Depending on the setting, he either has orange or brown hair, straight and regularly kept at long lengths in a ponytail. He has brown eyes and balanced features. Normally seen as an ordinary average guy, save for the times his hair is orange.
Being an artist, he does care about his clothing. Nothing outlandish, but the colors will match and he'll dress nicely. He often likes scarves, as well as brown or subdued colors.
Personality: Polaris is a shy and nervous person. Although he likes being around other people, he second-guesses himself a lot and worries about what others think about him. He tries to be friendly and polite to everybody. Aggressive people tend to make him defensive or quiet. While others might think he is fearful, he can be quite brave when there's danger. Sure, he'll be afraid, but he will stand up for what he thinks is right and defend someone else in trouble.
Polaris is highly creative. He is an artist who focuses on drawing and painting, although he'll explore many arts to find and make beautiful or meaningful works. While he's quite talented, past experience has made him humble about his work, but pleased when someone else likes it. He's also quite good at cooking, often using that to make a living.
Normally heterosexual. Often has issues related to his father.
Setting: I normally use him in modern supernatural or advanced technology settings, but others would be fine by me.
Restrictions: None.

This is excellent! I already love this idea! I am going to post right away with a charcter I am using to role play with currently. I hope you like him! Feel free to comment on or critique the character if you chose write about him.
Name: Nathan Lee Yi Gender: Male Age: Currently 27 (I gave him a 1986 birth date at random)
Physical Description: The first thing one would notice about Mr. Nathan Yi, is the fact that he is almost entirely ordinary. His raven-haired head sits atop his body at a height of five feet and five inches and for all the world he looks like an average Chinese man. He has narrow shoulders and a slender frame; so slender, in fact, that if he didn't have such terrible eating habits he would probably waste away to nothing. He is relatively handsome once you get past his cynical expression His best features, he tells himself, are his eyes, the hue of deep wells of ink.
Personality: Charming, Lighthearted, easy-going and humble are--not the traits one would associate with Mr. Yi's personality. His arrogant, unpleasant and cynical with a smidgen of cowardice thrown in for good measure. An admirable, albeit, entirely necessary quality of Yi, are his fast legs which never seem to be as fast as his mouth. Angering someone and making a speedy get away is his favorite pastime. Nathan Yi almost seems to gravitate toward unpleasant things; dissonant noise, traffic jams, arguments are all things this man appears to enjoy...when he is not a party to them, that is. Even with all of his obvious faults he is highly dedicated and motivated. He would naturally select a career in public service like the police force and he would be well suited to fighting crime. The problem is that he tends to be just as hostile twoards average people. What kind of hero can this person be?
Setting: His setting is likely to be in a modern or futuristic world. I don't see him as a fantasy character more like science fiction.
Restrictions: No, no restrictions. He is the non-heroic hero, He can change for the better but I can't see him getting any worse xd I don't see him as the relationship type as he is uncaring for the most part but all rules have exceptions!
Powers are optional, No pets...he's afraid of most animals in a comedic sort of way.

Anti-hero! Got him added to the list (it's alphabetical for now). I think he could get wore, but he'd quickly fall off the hero ranking.
