The humidity was starting to get to the mare, she was used to a dry hot climate. Alora moved slowly, quietly observing the green foliage all around her.Her dark red eyes gazed through the bone mask that sat over her face, its long tusks extending out past her jaw. Never in her life had she seen a place that was so, well, green and lush. She pushed through the large leaves, small droplets of dew collecting on her fur.
Finally she decided to stop, looking skyward for the sun. Alora searched for some indication of the time but the tree tops were so dense only the rays filtered through. Looking down again, she noticed several of the glowing butterflies had landed at the base of a tree. She nodded to herself and thought Yes, this will be a good place to rest.... The butterflies departed as she stepped closer, resuming their fluttering around Alora's body. She lowered her head against the moss of the tree and using her knee, slid the mask off her face. Next she reached around to her side, pulling off the okapi pelt and placing it next to her mask.
Once again, Alora examined her surroundings. One of the blue spirits that also followed her around took the shape of a snake and weaved its way along a vine, while another shaped itself into the head of a alligator and attempted to 'eat' a butterfly resting on her horn. In the distance Alora heard a running stream, she would have to find it later. Though it concerned her that she would loose herself in this vast place.
Such adventures would have to wait for later. Reaching down into the small brown pouch tied to her leg. It contained some crushed up coffee beans and egg shells and to her, it was a protection powder. Gently she blew a small amount of the powder over the ground and finally lowered herself to the ground to rest.

User ImageThis was the farthest he’d ventured away from the temple ( without his brother ). It was starting to make him nervous, honestly.

Hunahpu paused as he stared down at the stream, his head cocked lightly to the side. He tail flicked mildly in interest, before he lowered his head to sniff at the running water. Was it safe to drink? It smelled like the stream that ran through the temple; but he wasn’t sure if they were similar. What if this one had a plant in it that could harm him? Deciding that was a silly accusation, the stallion huffed at the water, before lightly allowing his mouth to dip into the cool liquid, and drank to his heart’s content. He felt fine, so he was certain that such a plant did in fact, not exist. At least not here.

Maybe outside the jungle?

He snorted, shaking out his mane, the horns on his head catching a few of the tendrils of hair, before he glanced from west, then to east. He had several hours, considering it was only mid-day, before dark; and before he would need to return to the temple. He didn’t want Xbalanque to worry about him. After all, Hunahpu wasn’t the fighter. That wasn’t to say he didn’t know how, he just preferred to do research and study, experiments, than train and hone his claws as Xbalanque did. He needed to continue onward. They had agreed to both go in different directions today; try and cover more ground, of course. But Hunahpu found himself wanting to return to the confines of his temple. He sighed some, eyebrows pulling together as he scanned the area around him.

It was then that he saw it. Just barely. A wisp of some sort? It was blue, he knew that much, and it wasn’t like anything he had ever seen before. The stallion took a half step forward, the movement causing his claws to dip into the stream, before he took several steps back, staring down at the water at his feet. Well… This was problematic. Xbalanque had said only to go as far as the river, and from there follow it west until they crossed paths again. But whatever it was that he saw was across the river, meaning he would be going farther away than expected. Frowning, Hunahpu weighed the pros and cons for a millisecond, before he easily jumped over the river, his wings beating to help him ensure he didn’t land in the cool liquid.

Surging forward, he folded his wings. Hunahpu tilted his head, trying to see more of the blue thing, but it was being evasive. What kind of creature was it? Shaking his head of the thought, he walked in a large arc, until his eyes fell upon something else. Another creature… much like himself, but smaller in frame. He cocked his head to the side as he stared with curious, slitted eyes. What was it? Father had said that other creatures roamed this earth that appeared as they did, but this one before him was.. not resembling them too easily. The coloration was off as was the tail, and the lack there of wings. And its horn was in the wrong place, not only that but there was only one. Shaking his head some, he murmured under his breath, watching the creature curiously from the trees.

What was it doing anyways?

Alora had not bedded down for long, but it had been a long enough rest for her. Her mouth had become dry and she did not know which plants she could trust in this leafy paradise. She would have no choice but to find the stream. Slowly she rose, gold bangles on her legs clinking softly together. Alora straightened the crocodile head that was attached to a beaded necklace and then stood still. Her eyes followed one of her blue spirits as it snaked along a tree branch, toward a glowing butterfly.

Alora spoke next, to her spirit followers. To a stranger she would probably appear to be talking to herself and thought of as quite insane. 'Be my eyes, sweet children. I do not know these lands well and do not wish to be lost'

With that, the mare set off in the direction in which she heard the stream. The butterflies that usually kept pace with her fell behind, landing gently on a random tree or plant before taking wing again to move onto the next. This was their way of marking a trail and would later guide Alora back to her belongings.

Alora's ears swiveled as she followed the song the stream and it was not long until she found it. It was a beautiful sight to behold, the slow moving stream amidst the vivid flora. Somewhere in the tall canopies birds joined also joined in the jungle rhythm. Alora inhaled deeply, taking in the humid and fresh air. She stepped forward, hooves sinking into the water. Alora craned her neck forward, hesitating only for a moment to take in the sweet smell of the liquid before lipping at it gently and taking a cool refreshing mouthful. It was as sweet and refreshing as it smelled and Alora continued to quench her thirst in the stream.

Well, this creature was interesting.

Hunahpu tilted his head curiously as he watched it be seemingly attacked by some blue misty creature that resembled the green lizards that he had seen previously on another outing. And what was with all the butterflies that were circling it? Slitted eyes flickered for a moment, before he huffed lightly, shaking his head with ease. He was still learning this jungle, and if he didn't return to his brother soon there was likely no way that he would be able to locate him as easily. Tilting his head back over his shoulder, the stallion frowned toward the direction he knew to go. But, his curiosity was fierce. It always had been; it'd gotten him in trouble as he was growing up, after all. And being that creature, he knew that he wouldn't be able to resist observing it until he figured out what exactly it was.

By the time Hunahpu gathered his thoughts on the matter and turned to once more face the creature, it was gone. He frowned, eyebrow raising a degree, before he saw the shift in the leaves. So it was heading toward the stream? How odd. Hunahpu had cataloged this particular area of the stream to having dangerous fish; both poisonous and carnivorous. ( Mostly he'd seen another creature approach and try to catch a fish, in which the fish bit the creature. From there, Hunahpu observed the happenings. The creature fell dead almost instantly, and, with some friends, the fish quickly destroyed every ounce of flesh that was in the water, and some even got out of the water. Though they perished quickly without the needed water-oxygen filling their gills. ) Shaking his head, he was certain a creature resembling himself wouldn't try and attack one of those fish! It was highly dangerous.

Shifting, he moved amongst the trees once more, eyes lingering on the rustling ahead of him. It wasn't very good at walking in silence, was it? Hunahpu had learned it while playing games with Xbalanque in the temples. It was harder to do out here in the plants, but he quickly learned. After all, dangers lurked around every corner. But, generally, the stallion saw this as one large game, or adventure. Not some dangerous happenings that could kill him. He was a large stallion, after all ( roughly twenty-two hands ), and his wings made him seem all the bigger; his claws all the more strong. So smaller creatures, from what he noticed, hadn't tried to attack him yet. Though he had some that were curious about him. He made friends, kind of, with a few. Though the snake that resided within the temple was his closest friend; aside from his brother.

When it stopped, Hunaphu stopped. He peered out through the tall leaves and tree trunks to try and figure out just what it was the odd creature was doing. So far, it appeared just to be drinking. Hopefully that was it, otherwise the fish may come up stream. Though without blood they would have no real reason to move from their nesting grounds. Shaking the thought from his head, the Uni'Hippo'Suti stared with curious eyes ahead of him.
