Guardians...Wolves....Pah. He didn't believe a word of it! Just rumors, nothing to be concerned about. Any good Prazina worth their salt would dismiss such things after all! And he certainly was a good one! Or he tried to be....So tonight he was going to take a much different approach to his attempts at finding a lady. Or friends. Friends were good. He only had one, but never mind that. So on this night, he was going to a tavern. He heard that many people went to go have a drink, and found their loves easily that way, and he could believe it, right? He had seen so many lovely ladies with men who looked far worse than he, and surely a face like his could win one over, right? On entering the tavern, he found himself ordering his first beer, though after one sip he wasn't exactly....liking it. However, if this was what the people of Palisade drank, he guessed he should keep with it...

Glad to reach her destination and be out of the cold, Rajani made her way up to the counter and signaled to the bartender. With faster service than most might receive in the place, he delivered her drink.
"Your boyo here?" he asked.
"Of course," she replied.
"I'll send something out," he said with a nod, then left to see to it.
Rajani settled on a stool, set to nurse her drink and wait until it was time for her performance.

Dino was definitely watching her the moment she walked in. How couldn't he? She was by far one of the most lovely women he had seen in his lifetime, and the way she carried herself, with such confidence, was appealing as well. Of course, he could be reading far too in to the woman, though perhaps a bit of eavesdropping couldn't hurt. Seemed like the bartender knew her. Boyo...? Oh, so she was taken? Well at the very least, that hadn't stopped him before. Though....With his interests in mind, perhaps meeting her wouldn't hurt. Plus he wasn't pleased with this beer thing. It just wasn't him. Managing to have maybe half of it, he wrinkled his nose. Time to get a real drink. He made his way up to the bar without much issue, most of the other patrons already keeping to themselves, or having a rowdy time with their friends, and set the stein down. "If you wouldn't mind, could I perhaps get a wine? If you have something like a red wine, that would be nice." He asked, giving a sigh as he pushed the amber liquid away from him, and began to take out his coinpurse. "And one of whatever for the man outside. Shame he should wait in this cold." He counted out enough for the two drinks, unaware that perhaps the man wasn't really a man.

Rajani had planned to ignore the patrons that evening, but when she heard the offer of this first man she could not help laughing. A drink for the one waiting outside? Oh, how sorely he was mistaken. "I'm afraid your coin would be wasted," she told him when she could speak clearly. "Oberon does not drink."
Really, this was something new. Greens, fruit, or bread, perhaps, but no one had ever tried to order a drink for her Guardian before. Somehow, she doubted that he would appreciate the sentiment. He really was not very fond of most men...particularly those with an interest in Rajani. In fact, the only part of this stranger's assumption that might be correct was the fact that Oberon was the jealous sort. That was assuming, of course, that he had mistaken the stag for a beau.

Dino was not sure why the pretty lady was laughing at him. He had offered a drink for the diligent man, her guardian, had he not? Was this not commonplace? It was back home, except usually people did not wait out in the cold. "Oberon doesn't drink? Well then. I must respect a man who so dutifully waits for his rather lovely lady. What shall he prefer instead?" He offered, waving a hand to emphasize his wallet was at this 'Oberon's command. He really had no idea that the guardians were real. He doubted it was true. People going off to pray to the Ward for protection? Pah. Fools will get frostbitten instead of these 'Wolves' coming for them.

The bartender looked affronted. "The lad's is on the house," he informed Dino haughtily, then took off toward the opposite end of the bar, muttering about stupid foreigners.
Rajani watched the whole thing with an amused air, highly entertained at the poor man's expense. She watched the bartender stalk off before turning her attention back to her would-be suitor. Or whatever he was. Just then, entertainment seemed the best descriptor. Yes. Her entertainment.
"I believe you've offended him," she observed and took a sip of her steaming hot beverage. "Guardians eat free, here."

This left him even more confused. What in the world was going on? How had he managed to offend someone by offering to pay, he hadn't known! He must be rather important if he got whatever he wished for on the house, and the laughing of the lady made his cheeks turn red in embarrassment, though the rather frustrated and confused look remained. "Oh I've noticed. I don't understand, how? Why? Pah, I miss my homeland. No one gets offended by trying to be generous." He grumbled, running his finger around the rim of the beer which he certainly wasn't finishing. It was, however, her last words, that made him suddenly stop. Wait. Guardians? Those things that everyone was talking about? And the Wolves? "Those...." He started, unsure of what to really continue with. Eventually, he managed to turn to Raj, obviously just beside himself. "Those are actually.... real?"

Oh, definitely entertainment, she thought as she broke out in laughter once more. The look on his face! He looked so devastated, like a little boy being told dragons were not real. She had not seen that level of incredulity in years. Well, not about Guardians, at any rate. People were just starting to wrap their heads around the wolves, however.
"Where have you been living, that this comes as such a shock?" she wondered. "You must be very new to Sunderland."
The last foreigner she had met had taken it all in stride. No, that was not fair. Soibhan had taken the revelation and run with it. But this one? He would need some work if he intended to stay.
"You may want to go home while you still have a chance," she told him. It only seemed fair to warn him. If things were different, she would have left the country while she was still able. Oh, well. It was far too late for that.

"I am pretty new...I came from Othonia, down to the south. Aaah..." He paused for a moment, trying to figure out to explain his exact intentions of living in Palisade for the moment. "My parents sent me to find a bride, and I'm not exactly welcome back until doing so, not that I'd...enjoy going back." Dino was being rather careful with his words, checking around behind his back just in the vague happenstance that someone who was from his country was around. "I don't want to go back. Ever. For once I'm able to breathe without being criticized." He wrinkled his nose, obviously not too fond of whatever had happened back home. "But I'm not needed anyway, since it's my dear sister who gets to run the family now, so I'm not missed." There was a sheepish look on his face, almost shy that he'd been this wrong. "So they really are real? Everything everyone's been saying? Both of them, I mean. The...The guardians and the..." Wolves. Oh so Kian had been right. He had thought it teasing. And saying he could take one down now? If it was true, then....then maybe not so much. Not with him getting away alive at least.

"Suite yourself," she said with a shrug. If he wanted to risk life and limb just to get away from his family, who was she to argue?
"They're both as real at this winter." She gestured vaguely at the door, indicating the entirety of the long, unnaturally harsh season that Sunderland had suddenly been faced with. "Unfortunately, they're both more permanent, as well."
Really. What was with the foreigners of late? Even after learning the facts, they all insisted on staying. Then they went and got themselves involved in a war that was none of their business. Suddenly, she eyed Dino critically. He did not look insane, but... "You're not planning on involving yourself with the war, are you?"

"Ah, I see...." He looked down briefly, then thought about it. Both were real, huh. Both of these were real. Wolves were terrorizing the north, and there were these mystical guardians running about. Oh. Well he certainly wasn't going to go out looking for a wolf of unusual size. But a guardian? Why, maybe if he asked politely.....He'd have the chance. His thoughts were interrupted again, cut short by her question. The war? "Ah no, I'd probably not be much use." He admitted, "I know how to duel with swords, but strategy and more quick thought battle.....I have no talent in." Well, he was underplaying himself a bit, but it had been months since he'd last used his sword. If you don't practice, you're likely to get worse, he knew. If he could find someone to help him keep his skills sharp though...Perhaps that was someone's services to buy next, since he found himself a chef. "And I only know a little about it too. I wasn't born or raised here, and while I have found it to be a rather pleasant place to live...It's not my home." The spices, the colors, oh how he missed his country. But not his parents. And that would be where he would have to return to if he did ever choose to go back. However, remembering his earlier train of thought, he rubbed the back of his neck, laughing awkwardly. "Well...I...Do you think I would horribly offend either you or...Orpheus was it?, if I...Saw him? I've never seen a guardian before, and having the opportunity and..." He stopped himself from rambling, just the slightest bit excited.

Ironically, she was relieved to hear his dissembling. Finally, someone with an ounce of common sense. He might not have the wisdom to leave the country, but at least he did not seem inclined to join the fight. Imagine: a foreigner who did not want to fight in Sunderland's battles. The natural order was restored once more. Perhaps there was hope, yet. Now, if only she could convince a certain pair of native ruffians to join the fight...
Suddenly, Rajani's leveled a sharp look at the foreigner. "What would horribly offend is if you cannot remember his name," came her icy reply. In general, she had little problem with letting people meet Oberon. It was annoying, but after living with him so long, she had gotten used to the attention he garnered. But this? It would not do. He was not some stupid animal. He was more intelligent than many people she could name and he bloody well deserved to be treated like it.

He was calming down from his initial fluster quite well......Until he gained the look. Oh the look could have made his heart stop. It stabbed right in to him, and he lost what he had regained, terribly embarrassed and apologetic, trying to remember what the real name of her guardian had been. It had started with an O, right?! Right?! Shrinking back the slightest bit, he stayed silent, eyes darting as he tried to remember, especially to the right. Male, strong, something mystical......Oberon? ....Oberon! "Ah I'm terribly sorry I...Oberon right? What a blunder I've made....." He was terribly apologetic, though didn't quite get to rambling, looking down at the half-finished beer instead. He had heard that they were a rather crafty and smart lot, those guardians, but wasn't too keen on getting too close. The man hadn't meant by his words that they were by any means anything like normal animals, just that perhaps he wasn't keen on getting too close. He hadn't heard of anyone but natives having been chosen, and frankly felt that, now knowing they were real, having doubted their existence was a little foolish. But he still was a man of believing by sight, and seeing one would definitely set his new opinion in stone.

Momentarily mollified, Rajani hummed dubiously. She had a low tolerance for idiocy, but thus far Dino had proved harmless enough to keep around. At the very least, it could not hurt to allow him to see Oberon. If he planned on remaining in Sunderland, he would see a Guardian sooner or later, anyway. Better she made it sooner, or he would get himself into some real trouble. Besides, as far as first impressions went, it was difficult to surpass her stag. Not that she planned on letting him know that; his ego was large enough already.
The gypsy stood and jerked her head towards the door. "Come on, then," she said and stepped outside, leaving the man little choice but to follow.
Oberon, for his part, was taking shelter in the stables behind the tavern - a luxury that he could only sometimes indulge in. It was a relatively crude structure. It boasted a back wall, a roof with a hangover, but its stalls were open to the elements rather than being enclosed in a barn. The stall that Oberon stood in was not closed, of course. He could come and go as he pleased.
Upon sensing Rajani's approach, he stepped out of the stall and fully into sight - and an impressive sight he made. The gypsy would not be the least surprised to learn that he had made an effort to appear more regal and graceful than ever, from the gentle swish of his long, long tail to the proud arch of his neck, boldly displaying his antlers. And of course there were his eyes: glowing purple orbs filled with too much intelligence. It was those eyes that he used to pierce Dino.

Dino hadn't expected anything. He was pretty sure if he opened his mouth one more time he'd end up insulting the entire building. So he quietly attempted to nurse the beer again, though the moment it hit his lips he couldn't help but cringe and put it back down. EUGH. Not for him, he was going to remain to his wine forevermore. He didn't glance back at her until she stood up, and spoke to him. Come....Go meet....?! He didn't even give a peep, getting up after her, catching up rather quickly. He stayed a few strides behind her, an extremely curious expression upon his visage. What were they like, he wondered. Were they all different? Were some brightly colored? He knew he'd be meeting a buck, but he certainly didn't expect what he came across. He was completely pierced by those eyes, just in complete awe. He felt like he wanted to cry, so surprised by the grace and strength of the stag. If this what guardians were, he deserved to be punished for not believing. Somehow, he managed to stay on his feet and keep his jaw off the ground, exhaling as soon as he remembered. "Ti si predivan..." Was all he managed to murmur, forgetting about speaking so others could understand. One could guess he was commenting on his awe of Oberon, which was correct. "Izvini...I can't believe I was such a fool..."
