Junko had given out all of her chocolates...except one box. It was a box she'd made not realizing that Seiji had left right before their anniversary. Two years. They'd been together two years now. Wow...
He'd left right before their anniversary...could he not have waited a little while longer?
She was sitting at the edge of a fountain that actually had small fish in it, tossing them the extra chocolates that she'd made just in case some had turned out badly and ended up not giving to anyone. They ate them up, creating loud splashes that nearly got the ghoul a few times. "You're not gonna get all weepy on me, are you?" The Mistress muttered with disgust, shying away from the splashes the fish were sending Junko's way with their excitement over yet another chocolate she'd tossed into the water.
"No," she replied quietly, breaking a spookie into little pieces and sprinkling the crumbs into the water. "I'm fine, really." Totally. That's why that piece of chocolate went sailing through the air past the fountain. "Oops.."
Way to go.

Mac was sitting on the other side of the fountain, enjoying the fresh air and his newspaper. He wasn't bothering anyone, or doing anything terrible; he was just sitting there, reading a paper by himself. Thus the assault of a piece of chocolate came as something as a surprise. Usually people waited until he did something before pelting them with things, and it usually was something a little bigger than chocolate. And heavier, too.
Honestly, he didn't know what to think.
Instead he folded up his paper, looking over his shoulder at the fountain as if it did that on purpose. The voice he heard was familiar, enough to make him roll his eyes. Junko was throwing chocolate at him?
"Very subtle, dumbass."

Oh no. Not Mac. Anyone but Mac. Junko groaned and slapped the heel of her hand to her forehead, dragging her hand down the side of her face. "Jackdamnit." She muttered under her breath, waving Mac off and climbing off the edge of the fountain. "It was an accident. It won't happen again." Junko did not feel like dealing with Mac right now.
She started to walk away, her hair writhing and curling around her. "You're angry. How wonderful." She chuckled darkly. Junko rolled her eyes.
"I'm not angry."
"Oooh and lying now! Naughty ghoul!"

"I'll believe that when I see it." Mac snorted, though he didn't sound angry for once. His newspaper was folded again and tucked under his arm and he stood, walking lazily around the fountain and stopping a foot or two away from her. Not angry? Why else would she be throwing chocolate if she wasn't angry?
"Alright, what did I do now?" He regarded her, his expression almost bored as he slipped his hands into his jacket pockets, his newspaper still under his arm. "You know Lizzy and I broke up, right?"

Junko kept walking even when she heard him following her. Nope. Not dealing with him. Not at all. Nope. Go away.
His question made her stop, turning narrowed green eyes glowing with irritation toward the boil. "Nothing except get in the way of a piece of flying chocolate. Not everything is about you, Mac." Junko replied coolly, or as coolly as the ghoul could manage. The question made her bristle visibly, her hair raising slightly. Why would he bring that up? Was he rubbing it in or something? Oh haha look you were right about me all along it's a good thing you never approved of me while I hurt your best friend and broke her heart. She frowned and seemed to calm down, her hair falling around her like a long black curtain.
"Of course I know...why would you ask that?"

"No? I don't know, I think getting hit by a stray piece of candy by someone who hates me is pretty good grounds to assume that it is, in fact, all about me." His tone matched his expression; bored and tolerating. He didn't want to be here as much as she did, and yet there was something going on that insisted he stay and figure out what it was.
"Just wanted to make it clear that you don't have power over me anymore, that's all." She couldn't threaten to go running to Lizzy, and now she was on the same level as everyone else, as far as he was concerned. "Which also means I can hound you until you tell me what's going on, and there's nothing for you to use against me to stop me." So he took a step or two closer, hands still in his pockets and his expression still bored.
"Why are you throwing perfectly good chocolate?"

"I was feeding the fish and accidentally threw a piece too hard. I didn't know you were sitting there. It was an honest accident, and I apologize. It won't happen again." Her apology was at least genuine. She really hadn't meant to hit anyone with the chocolate. It had happened before she even realized what she was doing.
Ah, so that was why. Junko rolled her eyes. "It's not like I was unfounded in my disapproval." She toyed anxiously with a piece of hair that wrapped itself around her wrist and hand, squeezing it as a source of comfort. The fact that she had had power over him was funny though. Damn, she had missed her chance to abuse it. Oh well. He threatened her and she took as many steps aback as he took toward her. "Oh no you don't..." Junko continued to back away.
"I give everyone the same number of chocolates," with two exceptions of course! "So I had some extras...I figured the fish would like some treats." There, she answered his question. "Goodbye, Mac." She turned on her heel to leave, wanting to just..be alone now.

"Alright. So for once it really isn't about me~" Mac conceded, holding his hands up briefly in defeat, but keeping his arm close enough to his body to not drop his newspaper. "Though you were unfounded for the most part." But before she could bring up all the reasons that her disapproval of him were more than founded - in fact, horribly deserved - he continued on and thoroughly ignored any of her immediate attempts to rebuke him.
"I don't think someone as sweet and demure and perfect as yourself would throw chocolate at those poor little Fish~" Yes his voice was dripping with blatant bitterness, but it didn't seem to last too long; he'd gotten it out of his system, and that was that. She had started to walk away from him and his immediate response was to start laughing. Really, Junko? Really?
"Yeah, nice try." He even applauded her valiant effort as he started to walk after her, keeping a distance but never far enough to let her forget that he was still there. "You know, I've been thinking...I don't really see you as the type to have too much chocolate and not try to divide it between the creatures you were giving it to." He mused, a hand coming up to stroke the stubble along his jaw. "Actually I don't see you as the type to even have too much chocolate to begin with. You know, because you're so fair and just...it'd just be wrong to have extras when you could be the sweet little scareling to make sure everyone got some!" Okay so maybe he was mocking her a little bit...but at least he didn't sound malicious this time. It had come out of his system, not he was just being himself.
Which was kind of an a**.
"What happened, Junko? Did someone not want your chocolates?"

Junko seemed to flinch each time Mac stressed a word describing her. "I'm not perfect.." She protested quietly with a small frown. Junko was the first person to say she was far from perfect; the ghoul had ideas of who was perfect and they weren't anything close to her. His tone didn't help either. She kept walking, doing her best to ignore Mac's words. It was hard. He was right, she did divide her gifts as evenly as she could. Anything she couldn't fit with the rest she still saw some way to give away or she ate it herself. This time she'd just... She had had extra chocolate though. She and Mot had gotten a little overzealous preparing for Scarentine's day and made too much! Honest! But his words still hurt. Shut up, Mac. Shut up. Shut up. Shut. Up. "He ALWAYS wants them!" Junko finally shouted without thinking. She gasped, her face flushing hot pink as her hair suddenly moved to hide her face. "I-I mean...nothing happened! Just...just go away!" Her pace quickened.

Mac's brows lifted at her outburst, and as she started to turn a fun shade of pink a grin grew on his lips. Oh, oh this was juicy. Junko was having problems. Relationship problems, it sounded like...unless she suddenly had another boil in her life.
"Yeeeeeah that's not gonna happen." He promised, but he didn't move to follow her just yet. Instead he slowed to a stop, his hands still casually in his pockets, and yelled to her retreating form. "He's clearly not worth your effort!"

Clearly?! Clearly?! What did he know?! Junko's fists clenched and she stopped walking, her eyes burning with angry tears she was trying not to shed. Mac's words hurt. The mocking hurt.
She was sorely regretting being okay with Seiji leaving now.
"Like..like you'd know! I bet you didn't even try!" Junko shouted back, pulling at her own hair and just...looking defeated. She bent her knees until she was almost sitting on the ground, her hair going limp and completely covering her. She wanted Mac to go awaaaaaay..maybe if she hid like this he'd give up, he'd leave her alone. She didn't want to talk about this with him. She was just mad, he'd make it worse.

Unfortunately, Mac was going to go away...not even as Junko tried to tear him down with that comment of hers.
"Sure, I was clearly not trying the whole time. Especially when I sought out my ghoulfriend's best friend, whom I hate and who feels the same, and tried to make a truce with her. Nor was I trying when I bit back who I was in an effort to not have the ghoul I love look at me with disappointment." Mac stained to keep his voice even, trying very hard to not start yelling at her. She had long since deflated and while it was amusing, he really couldn't let her keep that up in public.
Maybe he still somewhat held onto his truce.
He crouched down beside her, hands forever in his pockets. For a moment he just stared at her and then he extended a hand, placing it on her back. At least, where he assumed her back was under all that hair. "What happened?"

Bit back who he was? Junko never saw that. All she saw was a jerk who even when he tried to make a truce with her was still just..well...an a**! She sniffed, hugging her knees and staying crouched low to the ground, her hair still covering her entire body. It wasn't hard when it was over ten feet in length and still growing. The touch to her back surprised her, she tensed and squeaked, sniffling and rubbing her nose with the back of her hand. Why did he care? Why wouldn't he just leave her alone? "I..I don't know..." It was an honest answer. She wasn't exactly sure what happened. There were events here and there but...in the wide spectrum of things she wasn't actually sure what happened.
Junko felt awful.
Her shoulders shook, a movement that could be seen through her hair. She was trying not to cry, not in front of Mac and most certainly not in public. Junko was stronger than that, she hoped. "I really, really don't know.." She sniffed, wiping at her nose again.

Mac stared at the trembling pile of hair for a moment, his lips pulling into a thin and very unimpressed line. Was she...actually crying? Really? It was hard to tell under all that hair, but he knew despair when he saw it; he was, after all, often the cause of it. A crying ghoul - even one he hated for a plethora of reasons - pulled at the heart strings he didn't want to believe existed. The boil groaned unhappily, his hand patting her back in a light, hopefully reassuring motion. His hand then slipped down, following the curve of her back until he found her arm under that sea of black, and if her hair would let him he'd slid his hand under it to grip her arm with a surprising gentleness.
"What a douchebag." He was talking about whomever 'he' was, not Junko, of course. "Come on, let's go for a walk." He murmured, his voice strained with a very forced pleasantness. He was resigning to his fate of taking care of the ghoul now because really...who the Jack would let a ghoul be this upset around Scarentines? It was terrible, and he knew terrible.

The grasp on her arm surprised her but for once she didn't shove it away. What was he doing? Last time he'd grabbed her by the arm he had dragged her off to yell at her about ghouls. "He's not a douchebag.." Despite her anger and current bitterness, Junko would still defend him. Seiji hadn't done anything wrong, right? He probably would have stayed if she'd protested against him leaving..right? But why would she do that, who was she to tell Seiji he couldn't go visit his parents?
"...Okay." Junko quietly agreed and stood straight again, not bothering to try freeing herself from Mac's grip on her arm. She wiped at her eyes, trying to hide that she'd been trying so hard not to try. "Why are you being nice to me?" Not that she was complaining. It was nice, she just wondered why he wasn't nice before.
And Junko might have been slightly suspicious.
