The streets of New York were packed as ever, and a lone girl was walking among them, She was short, standing at only five feet tall, and she had bushy red hair and bright blue eyes that, together with her fresh young face, made her seem pretty. Her name was Abby O'Connor, and as she had found out weeks ago, she was not an ordinary girl.

About two months ago, at the New Year's Eve Bash in the Rockefeller Center, Abby had encountered a woman who claimed she knew magic and that Abby had magic powers too. Abby had eventually freaked out and run away when a man with glowing eyes had come to the conversation, and ever since returning home with her family that night she had been trying to put the events out of her mind and convince herself it was all some weird dream... Except that she still had the kitten she had encountered in the Bash and had taken home, which her family had named "Rory".

Today, Abby was traveling to a Burger King. A part of her imagined that it seemed odd for a young girl to be travelling alone, but no-one had ever seemed to care much and she never wound up getting into bad situations... So maybe the 'good luck magic' the Condulmer woman had said Abby possessed was in fact real. But she pushed that thought out of her mind as she went to order food. She didn't have school today, and her parents were okay with her going sightseeing because they knew from experience that she never got in trouble and always came back. At the moment though, she was just hungry and the Burger King on the street was closest.

"Mmphmm....and yrr shurrh thiss'll....*gulp*... Mmh, that this little pill will work?" asked a blonde, freckle faced woman as she shoved another bite of a quarter pounder into her mouth.

The woman sitting across the table from her just stared back at for a beat. Her expression was rather deadpan as she watched the sizeable woman scarf the other half of her burger. Ketchup dripping down the corner of her overly glossy red lips and over the curve of her chin. Edel Condulmer shivered internally and drew her black eyes down towards the table. How on what's left of this green earth did people EAT like that? She was halfway positive that the meat they had to consume during her youth was healthier than this hastily slapped together chunk of meat they passed off as "fast food". And good heavens were manners so old fashioned that they didn't exist anymore? How long did she spend learning etiquette? This woman had probably never even heard of the word before.

"Yes." Edel finally replied, brushing a long, black ringlet from her face and tossing it over her shoulder with the rest. "Simply take one pill every day for one week. Once every two days after that. Contact me again in four weeks, and I'll..." she began, then paused as the woman attacked her french fries. The corner of her dark red lips twitched downwards in an effort to not scowl outright. Utter lack of manners. And it was not as though the woman was so emaciated that she was starving...
"...then I'll see how you've progressed. With any luck, that should curb your appetite. But I will remind you again, that pill will only do half of the work. You will have to-"

"Yeah, yeah." the other woman said, waving Edel off with one hand. "Salads, diet shakes, excersize, the works."

"No, that's not what-"

"Don't worry, I got this." the woman continued, grabbing her shake and standing from her seat. She reached into her purse as she plopped it onto the table in front of Edel, then pulled out a white bank envelope of money. "I'll start taking them tomorrow. They're having their Death by Chocolate Cake special over at Brittney's Bakery tonight. Thanks a bunch for coming over." she said as she tossed the envelope on the table in front of Edel.

Edel glanced down at it, a dark brow arching high as she stared at the now ketchup stained piece of paper. "......my pleasure...." she half groaned. "Now, then just..." she began, looking up from the envelope. But it was too late, the other woman was already making her way for the door.

Edel waited for her to leave completely, then practically sank into worn out seat once the door clacked shut on the other end of the room. She muttered something in some old language under her breath. A child took note of the odd, highly annoyed woman sitting across from him and turned around in his seat to stare at her. Edel glanced at him, then sighed and ran a hand through her dark, curly black hair.

At least she was wearing one of her "modern" dresses today. Last time a child took note of her after speaking like that, he'd asked if she was in a Shakespeare play.

As Abby walked in and ordered her food-- A simple fish sandwich combo meal with medium fries, and she went and got herself a medium Sprite as well-- she noticed a rather obese woman walk past her, and, following to where she had to have come from, she spotted Miss Condulmer. Her eyes went wide, and she went into the girls' bathroom as inconspicuously as possible as her food was prepared.

Aw, man... Not her again... Abby thought as she went and washed her hands. She didn't mean to think that, it was just... The woman scared her, a little bit. She stayed in the bathroom for a few minutes, and when she exited her food was brought up. Again as inconspicuously as possible, Abby decided to take an empty seat as far away from Edel as possible. Unfortunately, her good luck aura, which she still wasn't totally convinced she had, was easily detectable to Edel.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 21, 2013 11:19 am

And detected she was....though it was sooner than Abby had probably expected. Edel had straightened herself up in her seat, and had just turned around to get up. Once she had done so, she noticed the rather large glowing aura coming from the counter across from her. The older woman blinked and took a closer look as the light moved through the line of customers and towards the hall. She spotted a flash of curly red hair as it ducked into the woman's room, and the aura followed her inside.

Edel paused for a beat, then smiled and sat back down in her chair. Well...at least something good could come from today. She could at least check in on the girl and see how she had been. At the very least. She did still want to see about her "good luck" aura. Now what was the child's name again? Abby? Abigail?

With the smile still curled around her dark lips, Edel looked down at the white envelope and picked it up. She tisked as she flipped through the small stack of green bills inside. She certainly wasn't making as much as she used to anymore.... New developments in medicine, technology, and information being given freely on the internet... well... at least this would cover her for a while.

She glanced back at the much shorter line, then let a small sneer curl around the corner of her nose. ...and it would cover a bite of something so she'd have an excuse to be here still.

Edel waited for Abby to return, took note of where she sat down, then stood to go order something for herself. It took only a few moments...she ordered the least deep-fried or internally harmful thing they had on the menu. Then, she took her bag and carefully made her way towards Abby.

Abby sat quietly, and said grace before she began to eat her food, as she had always been taught and told to do, being the nice Catholic girl she was. She also went about eating her food in a far less rude or disgusting manner than the woman Edel had been speaking to, and while she was outwardly calm, her heart was racing and she felt nervous inside. What if the woman saw her again? What would she do?

And then she glanced up as she heard the woman order some food, recognizing her voice, and then looked back down at her food. She really shouldn't have come here... And not three minutes later, she looked up again and saw Edel come over toward her. The look of confusion and a bit of fear in her eyes said it all: she was still reeling from their first meeting.

Edel smiled lightly as she approached Abby's table. It had been a few months now, and she had half expected the girl to have forgotten her. But...the look on the child's face said other wise. Perhaps it would have been better to try and approach her differently.

"Hello." Edel said gently, stopping next to Abby's table. "Abigail, right? It's been quite a while since we last met. How have you been?"

Abby looked to Edel, a small frown on her face, and seemed to shrink a bit.

"Erm... Hullo, ma'am," Abby said softly. "Um... Good, I s'pose..." she said, and she sipped her Sprite for a moment, not totally sure what to say. Part of her wished she could just be left alone, since she didn't really want to think about what happened at the Bash anymore.

Edel didn't seem to notice the girl's uncomfortableness. "Would you care if I joined you? My last...customer...made a bit of a mess of the table. I'd rather have a clean place to sit, and have a bit of a... reintroduction of sorts." she said. A small grin curled around the corner of her lips. "I can assure you that there will be no surprise guests this time."

Abby frowned for a moment before eating one of her fries, which she had gotten ketchup for because you couldn't have fries without ketchup. When she swallowed, she shook her head.

"No, it's... It's okay, ma'am, feel free t' sit," she said, and her tone was mostly polite. Even though she still felt uncomfortable, she couldn't just blow the woman off-- That'd be rude, and her mother had always made sure she was polite to her elders. She went back to her fish sandwich, trying not to freak out again.

"Thank you." Edel replied with a light smile. With that, she carefully sat her bad down on the table across from Abby. She pulled her chair out a bit, then tucked her hands under her skirt to pull her dark purple dress tightly against her legs as she sat down. It was much easier to sit down in her modern day dresses. She didn't have to worry about breaking or wrinkling anything in her dress.

"So..." Edel began, making herself comfortable in her seat. "How was that kitten you had found?" she asked, trying to make some light small talk to begin with. Reaching into her bag, she pulled out a small bag of fries and a small salad.

"Oh, um-- He's... He's alrigh'," Abby said in response, still looking down at her food. "Mum wasn' too keen on havin;' an extra mouth t' feed, but... we all agreed it was better'n jus' leavin' th' poor thing out in th' cold. We named him 'Rory'."

She felt slightly more comfortable, slightly, since she had grown quite attached to the little furball, and Rory most definitely seemed to like her as well.

"Rory..." Edel mused. "Seems like a suitable name for him. Most people I meet who own cats seem to enjoy naming their pets with odd names." she said as she pulled out a fork and began poking at her salad. "Though...I suppose odd sounding names vary now a days. People tend to giggle when they meet my Cedric."

Abby looked up from her food. "You have a cat too?" she asked, and she blinked; the fact that Edel was smart enough to stay away from the subject of the Bash and what happened meant Abby was more willing to talk with her.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 21, 2013 1:42 pm

Edel smiled up at her as she took a bit of one of her french fries. "Oh yes. I've had quite a few pets over the years, but Cedric has been with me the longest. I had found him as a stray as well. Though, he was in worse condition than your Rory when I'd come across him. It didn't take long to nurse him back to full health though. He's been my little companion ever since." She replied, taking another bite of the fry. Then she grinned slightly. "I'm afraid he gets bored rather easily now 'days. If he's not finding something to get himself into, he's lazing about the house."

Abby managed a small smile. "Rory can get in trouble sometimes... He mostly wanders inta th' laundry room and plays with socks," she said. "He like t' follow me around a lot, and he sleeps in my room with me. He's really sweet..."

She smiled a little more. The little furball was indeed quite fond of her. "I always did like cats... They're quiet an' not as messy as dogs... Usually."
