Stellaluna was resting quietly after visiting her mother Mawu for a few hours. Her mother was so busy with her new daughters; two bouncing baby twins that seemed full of life and sometimes were too much for their older mother and father... but it brought much needed happiness to her family. Stella was tickled at they shared her coloration and one shared her eyes. It made her have hope that someday she would feel ready enough to have her own children.

She was now off to visit her apprentice Lailah. Not that she was so much of an apprentice now as she was a friend and companion. The young female was an adult now and would someday be more than capable of upholding Stella's position and tasks. "Lailah?" She called softly, her lilac eyes half lidded in her relaxed state.

It wasn't much of a den. It didn't need to be, considering how little time Lailah spent in it. Really, it was just a place to sleep. At least, that was what the white lioness told herself about the opening next to and slightly beneath two large rocks.

It wasn't sharing a den with her mother and her younger siblings and that was what was most important.

It was, however, the best place she had to go and be alone and to think. Or rather, to seethe. Some time had passed since she'd last yelled at Yavin, and she wasn't certain if she was relieved by the lack or annoyed that he hadn't done anything to seek her out of late.

So it was with relief that she heard Stellaluna calling to her. She wasn't certain what she should be doing right now for the Shaman, but it was certainly better than sitting here...thinking.

"Yes?" she called back, looking towards the older lioness.

Stella spotted the pale lioness about the time when she called back. She smiled, happy to see someone she was as fond of as her own kin. She padded over to Lailah's densite and remembered when she first got her own densite away from her many siblings and her sometimes high strung mother.

She padded over to her moonlight colored Apprentice and gave her a nod. "I was wondering if you would be interested in sunning with me a bit... we have been working a lot lately..." She tossed a glance upwards at the bright sun. "It's such a nice day... and we need to take a break every once and a while..." She smiled.

She hoped that the grey maned female would agree.

The Shaman...wanted to take a break? It was...not something Lailah did that often. And never with her mentor. In fact, up until recently she'd spent much of that free time with, or thinking about, Yavin...

No, she wasn't going to let that self-important lion control her life! Not as long as he was so horribly arrogant!

"I guess..." she answered aloud, getting to her feet. Lailah was still somewhat confused. What exactly did Stellaluna want?

Stella was slightly pleased at the lionesses reaction to her suggestion. She smiled and felt that perhaps this was a much needed moment of their time, to do something other than their duties. One couldn't always be set on such things continuously; it could cause stress... and things had been pretty calm lately... since the banishment of Yareha. She frowned slightly at the thought of it, being that it was her apprentices Uncle and it had been a rather difficult thing to do but.. questioning their faith was unacceptable. The moon was their life.

She looked around and spotted a bright sunny patch not far away from them and began to head towards it. "...one must have a mind that is accepting and ready for the daily events of our home... we must take time to relax every once and a while. You've been working a lot... as have i...

Okay, aside from the addition about relaxing, that sounded a lot more like her teacher. If there were any collected teachings in the Mwezi, Lailah could trust Stellaluna to have them memorized. As it was, the black lioness seemed to have a saying or teaching for every situation that could possibly occur.

There didn't seem to be much for the white lioness to say in response, so she nodded and followed the older female's lead.

She continued walking. "It isn't about the events as much is what comes from them. As you know, we follow the moon and how he shows himself. Full moons. Half moons. No moon at all behind storm clouds. All these things have to happen in order for our lives to continue on. Cubs are born beneath a not so welcoming moon and their lives are chosen and they live them... as does the rest of the world outside or pride..." She paused. "Goodness I sound like I am babbling..." She chuckled.

"I learned a lot from not only my father but also from my mother. She was born outside this pride; you see... she was born in a place where the moon did not choose the futures of those born; but the color of their fur. How strange is that? She to judged by ones pelt..." She sighed. "My mother was chosen in a low ranking and treated poorly. Here, she is a slave but is treated with dignity; something she lacked back at the place of her birth. Perhaps that is why she is content."

Lailah listened attentively as her mentor related a tale she'd never heard before, about Stellaluna's mother and her past. It struck what was, perhaps, an unexpected chord in the younger lioness. All she knew of her own father was that he'd been a rogue, someone that her mother may have only spent a single night with before vanishing again.

She'd spent hours on the border, scanning every lion she saw in the hopes of identifying her mysterious parent. So far she hadn't had a bit of luck.

The rest of the story went over her head, having no real understanding of why one's fur color should determine one's place in the pride. If that was so in the Mwezi, she and Stellaluna would be on opposite ends, given her white coat and her teacher's black one!

"It's good that your mother has found peace here, even if the eye of the Great Lion is not upon her," the younger lioness offered piously.

Stella sort of realized she had been babbling. "I'm sorry Lailah. i have been going on and on. "My mother was not at all surprised when she was deemed a slave here. She was not saddened or hurt by it; for she had known low status her whole life. But my sister; Onalim; she became a lady and the rest of her children were favored by the great lion. And this brought her comfort..."

She paused. "She had always feared that her children would always be deemed unworthy of greatness. In the Kunanda'kun all her children would have been. Here; her blood lines run strong. And she found my father. She had been in love before with a lion who did not love her; his name was Vestip..."

Little did she know soon she would be welcoming him into their home.

The younger lioness offered a small smile to her teacher. "I'm glad that your mother has found contentment, if not happiness," she replied at last. It was hard enough keeping track of her own vast family, and Lailah wasn't entirely certain what Stellaluna was intending by rambling on about her kin.

The white female got to her feet smoothly. "I am sorry, but I think Mother needs my help at home. I will return tomorrow for lessons," she told the Shaman.

And then she made her escape. Maybe Aysu would be more interested in listening to Lailah's...issues with Yavin. Perhaps she'd even have some advice.

Perhaps.

Stella smiled softly and nodded. She was also glad that things were going so well for her family. She knew that her mothers past was a sad one and this one gave her happiness. And children. Both of which were something that brought joy to Mawu. She stood up and gave her apprentice a bow; but before she stepped away Stella reached out and touched her apprentices paw with her own. "I will see you tomorrow Lailah."

She then turned and walked a distance away before sitting down and reflecting on her thoughts. She would teach Lailah about the importance of the roles in which all lions fell into under the great one above.

And with that. She pondered.
