Anthony Darrow locked up the library and sighed, looking down at the corgi sitting by his feet. She was wobbling from side to side, looking impossibly sleepy for a dog that spent her entire day being pet and rubbed, covered in affectionate words and coos, and constantly being picked up and carried around. Yet somehow she had exhausted herself through all of that, and the library dog just looked like she wanted to go home and take a nap. Tony smiled and picked her up, which was exactly what she wanted.

Dogby sparked to life a bit, licking his face, or as close to it as she could reach, and letting him carry her in one arm as he walked back toward his new home. He still walked with his cane, though his leg was far stronger now than it ever had been after his various injuries to it. He did not need the cane as much as he thought, or was told, he would, and he wondered if it was because of his super healing.

The wound was old, before he had become a knight, but so much had happened between then and now that he could hardly remember a time when he didn't have his slight limp. It was as much a part of him as being a knight itself was.

And that was a big part.

He carried Dogby home, hearing her cooing softly in her sleep by the time he reached the front door. He slipped inside, as he usually did, and put her down on the bed, as quietly as he could. He let her sleep and moved off to put his cane by the door and then head right back outside. He yawned and stretched, his back tired from his day at work, but now it was time for his second, and arguably more important, job.

Patrol.

Moving down the darkened street, he powered up a short distance from home. Every night he chose a different spot, sometimes farther, sometimes incredibly far, just to ease any paranoia about being followed or seen and putting his family at risk. Tonight, it was just a few blocks off but it was quiet enough for him to feel okay with that. He closed his eyes and called his shield to him, but when he felt the grip of the weapon in his hand it immediately felt... different. His chest tightened and he looked at the shield in wonder, almost thinking his knight aspect was kicking in and something was creeping up on him. But no, there was no aura, no noise, no shadows. Nothing. Just a strange feeling that roiled in the pit of his stomach, like something was going to happen.

He just didn't know what.

Frowning, looking around carefully, he moved to start his patrol, as he needed to do. Whatever feeling that was in the air, it wasn't enough to stop him from his tasks, and he would just have to ignore it until it went away. Assuming it would.
