She had never experienced the sorts of extremes in temperature that she had since arriving on Eowyn. Back home, it was cold in the seasons when it was supposed to be cold and warm at the proper times as well. There was none of this blazing heat during the day and freezing cold at night. There were also no sounds of battle outside her walls when she tried to sleep, sounds that made Eanah want to alternately burrow into the sand and run out to join the fight. The private rivalries dried up almost entirely during the day, and Leyn let her wander away from their camp by herself, even as far as the small settlement that surrounded the dock they had landed at upon arriving here.

That was where she was today, a much paler and lighter scarf than she usually wore pulled around her hair to keep the sand away. She didn't have much money to go buying things she didn't need, but sometimes just going through the motions of shopping made her feel less anxious. The Oblivionite leaned over a young Dovaa's tray of jewelry, careful to keep one hand on her scepter in case anyone tried to make trouble.

Kadryn headed to Eowyn for another try at a Firani. She was thinking of either just observing one or actually attacking one. Though she was wary of their fire abilities. After all, she'd gotten burned once by lightning, no need to repeat that with fire!
So she'd stopped by the small village that had sprung up around the ferry's dock and went looking for something to eat before heading off into the desert.

As she was meandering about looking for something tasty to eat, she spotted a somebody that looked familiar. While she wasn't sure of who he was, she'd remembered him from the Winter Festival... the Oblivionite who'd been with Eanah.

"Hmm, if he's here, I wonder if she is too?" Kadryn muttered, and she sauntered off to go look for Eanah. She found her quarry in the market looking at jewelry.
Grinning she called out, "Hey, Eanah! Haven't seen you about in a while!"

She straightened and turned when she heard her name, the delicate necklace she held between her fingers forgotten in her curiosity. Who in Soudana's name could possibly know her here? When she saw who it was, a slight smile spread across her face before she could stop it. She did shake it off as soon as she noticed what she was doing, but she didn't frown to make up for the lighter expression. It was something.

"Hello Kadryn." The Dovaa protested faintly as Eanah began to move away with the necklace still in hand. She had honestly thought she would never see the Orderite again after the festival, but there she was. "It seems we're destined to meet in some very... strange places." A dusty town on Eowyn. She would have never predicted it.

"Are you here for the dragons, or..." She let her unfinished question hang in the air, unable to think of anything else one would come here for.

Kadryn smirked as she saw Eanah smile then quickly erase it. Such a fancy lady mustn't be seen smiling in public, she thought.

"We do seem to run into each other at odd places. Though I'll admit I saw the boy you were with at that Festival first and thought I might find you somewhere nearby. I'm here to try my hand at Firani's again. I've faced them once before with help and I think I can beat one on my own right now." She noticed the pout-y look upon the merchant's face and pointed at the necklace in Eanah's hand.

"You want to buy that then we can go talk elsewhere?"

"Oh," Eanah replied, her voice making no real sound at all even as her lips moved. She looked down at what she held, gently depositing it back on the merchant's tray then straightening properly. "It's all right. I shouldn't be buying such pointless things anyway." She moved closer to Kadryn, her interest caught by the mention of the fire dragons. The whole purpose of her own extended trip here was to learn to effectively fight Kiandris, but she hadn't been very successful at it at all.

"That is... impressive," she said. None of her instructors had made mention of the Firani yet, so she could only assume they didn't think she was ready for them. She'd have to have a little discussion with Leyn about just what she was ready for. Thinking of her tutor, she shook her head slightly. "Yes, he is probably still near our camp. I will have to tell him his skills at camouflage are lacking." She seemed to find humor in this as well, but it was brief.

"Where would you like to go to talk?"

Kadryn gave Eanah a big grin.
"Spotting a dark Oblivionite in this setting is easy! Plus you all tend to wear dark clothes which make you stand out even more... Doesn't it get hot under the desert sun with all that black clothing on? At least you changed to paler colors..." She turned and began walking towards a small building with some tables and chairs under an awning out front. From it came a tasty smell that made Kadryn's stomach rumble loudly.

"I was actually going to grab something quick to eat before I headed off to hunt. But I'm thinking I'll ditch the hunt and eat a larger meal today and chat with you instead. Dragons can wait, meeting friends is more important!" It occurred to her that perhaps Eanah had already eaten or maybe didn't have enough to pay for a meal here. So she turned to her and asked,
"Would you mind talking while we see what this place," she pointed to the tasty smelling building, "has to eat or do you want to go elsewhere?"

"Yes, it was very hot," she admitted. "I was glad to have brought these." Eanah brushed at the front of her dress with both hands, leaving herself defenseless for a moment. She didn't think the light-colored fabric suited her, but the alternative was rather uncomfortable. The Oblivionite stuck to Kadryn's side, shooting suspicious glances at the people in the area as the other girl continued moving. Yes, I have my own personal Orderite. Go about your business.

As they stopped in front of the building, Eanah stared at it far more intently than it might have deserved, lingering on Kadryn's words as they echoed through her mind. Friends. Were they? She was certainly the most pleasant example of her kind that Eanah had ever come across, but she had never had many friends anyway. Handing over a spot to someone who was supposed to be an enemy seemed like asking for trouble. She swallowed and finally turned her attention back to Kadryn. Maybe opening up a little more would stop her from feeling so awkward about the war.

"That sounds all right," she said with a short laugh. Picking up something to eat was hardly the same as buying a necklace. Cheaper, too. "We should stay." Eanah took several steps toward the door. "So, have you been up to anything interesting lately?" She hardly knew what constituted interesting for other people, but despite their differences, she had a feeling Kadryn liked to fight as much as she did.

Kadryn smiled with relief, glad that Eanah didn't mind eating with ehr. SHe knew that many Orderites would rather kill Oblivionites than eat with them and figured that Oblivionites might feel the same. And who was to say that just cause Kadryn liked Eanah didn't mean that Eanah liked her. And since she hadn't objested to Kadryn calling her a friend.. mean that she thought of Kadryn as a friend.. right?
Shaking her head clear of these thoughts, Kadryn deided to just take Eanah at face value and not think too deeply on it.

She walked inside the shaded eatery and asked for a table for 2 from the Orderite behind the small desk by the door. Ignoring the odd look that she received when the Orderite saw her companion, Kadryn turned to answer Eanah's question, "Mostly dragon hunts, plus I've been training so I can take down Firani's more easily! I've also been going out and making sure the egg thieves don't steal more eggs from the Drakeins. I know people want the power that you get from bonding, but it just seems wrong to go out and steal a persons child from them."

"Oh?" she replied. This conversation just kept getting more and more interesting. Eanah had managed to stifle the rude look she had almost given their onlookers as she turned her full attention to Kadryn. What was this about taking drakein from their parents? She hadn't really thought about it, but that was likely how the hybrid she'd swindled her egg from had obtained it in the first place. It hardly mattered to her. If these creatures were doltish enough to allow their eggs to be stolen out from under their snouts, then surely they weren't fit to be caretakers in the first place.

She was admittedly a little confused when Kadryn called them people. The Oblivionite might have heard rumors of what they were capable of, and yes, the additional power the other girl had mentioned, but she'd never known they could be more than beasts. Was Kadryn just giving them too much credit, or was there something more going on here?

"Have you met many drakein? I admit I've only crossed paths with one." If her own egg wasn't a dud, that would be two soon enough, but after what Kadryn had just said, she wasn't about to admit she had ever touched an egg, let alone that she was planning on... bonding with one, as the Orderite had put it. She had a feeling if she said anything at all that theirs would be the shortest friendship on record.

Kadryn looked at Eanah and grinnedhugely as she sat down at a table by a window.
"Know one? You could say that! I ran into a Kiandri Drakein a few months ago. She's quite fastinating and intelligent, and I like to think we're freinds now. Really fascinated by cooking so at least once a week I take some supplies out to her and cook a meal. Grrel's actually had the nerve to come into my aunt's Cafe for lunch once!" Kadryn laughed, remembering the villager's expressions when Grrel had boldly sauntered into Hot Springs Viallge as if she'd owned the place.

"And while she acts really strong and superior to Magescians, I get the feeling she's rather young for a Drakein. And not as powerful as she likes to project she is.. cause we've fought dragon's together and she's rather weak... Well, she was. It's been a while since we've last hunted together and last time I saw her she had more scars so she's probably gotten stronger since then. That and she's training to be a shaman of her clan so she's probably more dangerous when she uses magic..."
Kadryn looked down at the menu and began to think about what she wanted.. something different than what she could get at home...

Hm. That was certainly interesting. Would Maslin's Lazuli one day strut around carrying on conversations and demanding home-cooked meals? Would her future drakein? The Oblivionite took a seat at the table Kadryn had chosen, carefully avoiding looking around at their surroundings too much.

"I'll admit I am now a little curious to meet one older than an infant. Magic, speaking like a Magescian... I just wonder..." She pressed her lips together in a small smile. "Though I suppose it's not important." Eanah gathered her hair into a coil at her neck and examined the menu as if she was consulting a battle plan. Eventually she looked up again, her finger poised above her choice.

"Chocolate strawberry scone," she announced softly. Now, how did they order?
PostPosted: Mon May 20, 2013 11:32 am

Kadryn saw something she hadn't had before: Hastar Haunches in a hot sauce with a side of rice.. Hmm, didn't know you could eat Hastars, she thought, guess I'll have that.

"They are rather interesting, same as us but just shaped differently it seemed to me... Though it could just be Grrel that's like that, I haven't really met any other wild Drakeins... Perhaps you'd like to meet her one day? I'm hoping she'll take me to meet her caln. She's mentioned it a few times. Plus she's seen my home, only fair I should get to see her's!" Kadryn grinned at Eanah's choice in food.

"Just a desert?" Well if she wasn't hungry....

Kadryn raised her hand to catch a servers eye. As the young girl hesitantly came over Kadryn asked for the Haster haunches in hot sauce and looked at Eanah to see if she had anything else she wanted to order..

While it was true that Eanah wasn't all that hungry at the moment, she was also still acutely aware of how little money she had to spend here. The girl had never been wealthy, but her family had always provided her with enough to splurge on clothing now and then. Living on what she and Leyn could get from the land and any random odd jobs they could find meant less money for Hastar Haunches. Not that she would have eaten that. Her eyes widened a fraction at Kadryn's order.

"Chocolate strawberry scone," she repeated with a little more volume. "That's all." She even spared another faint smile for their server.

"Yes. It seems they really are just like us," she said, sitting up straighter and turning her full attention back to Kadryn once the other girl was gone. "And I think I would enjoy meeting Grrel. Someday." It would be beneficial to hear the creature's thoughts on the war and on the three races in general. If the drakein started taking sides, the balance could be tipped in ways she didn't want to think about.

"I hope this food is as good as the pastries from the Winter Festival," she added. "That was... fun." Meeting Cináed hadn't been, but the rest of that trip to Serenia remained a fond memory.

Kadryn gave Eanah a big grin. She was really glad that Eanah was her friend, Kadryn had someone to talk to that actually agreed with her on somethings! Plus liked her family's food. Always a good thing.

"It was wasn't it? Oh I met Maslin again!" Kadryn went on and talked animatedly about her sparring with Maslin, she even included a brief comment on how he'd actually hurt her enough that she'd slipped into a brief rage. This lasted till their food came, and then she was able to ask Eanah questions and poke her about her life and training as she dug into the delicious smelling and steaming meat dish. It was really rather delicious and she offered Eanah some too.

She decided that she didn't want to go hunting in the afternoon, but would rather spend it chatting and catching up with her Oblivionite friend.

Eanah was quite curious about what the grumpy hybrid was up to, but she tried to keep such feelings to herself as she sat politely and continued to listen. It was easier to hide her interest once their food arrived, and the Oblivionite managed to do so for the rest of their surprise meeting, at least as far as she was concerned.

She eventually countered Kadryn's news about her berserking by briefly describing her own dragon hunts, nibbling her pastry between stories. She even included some of the more embarrassing moments as well. Of course, many of her tales involved her tutor Leyn, and she tended to smile more than usual whenever he was mentioned. She didn't notice.

the end yay!
