She was at it again! Having grown bored of staying in her den, curled up with Clear Sky - not that she was ever bored of her sister! - Evie needed to get out. To go stretch her legs! Explore! Find something to do. She had too much energy and not enough activities to waste it on. Which meant the she-wolf was out and about alone, nose to the ground and tail wagging as she went.

Her nose first took her on a squirrel chase, the little rodent getting the better of her and performing some fancy acrobatics in the tree branches. Evie did try to climb the tree and follow. It just didn't end well.

Then she discovered a nice little stream with a tiny school of fish. She jumped right in and snapped at the water, laughing and attempting to catch some for a snack. A few of the fish weren't quite swift enough to escape her jaws. But it was clear for anyone that happened to catch sight of the she-wolf that she was having more fun chasing the fish then actually catching them!

"Try and run lil' fish!" She giggled and leaped at the school again, splashing water all around. Quite thoroughly soaked now, Evie made her way to the bank, climbing out and shaking out her coat. Her ears swiveled around, nose to the air as she let the scents of the area surround her. Unfamiliar. And claimed. Uh oh. She hoped the pack that claimed these lands weren't the 'attack on sight' type.

User ImageHe watched her splash around in the river with a bemused smile. The sun lanced through the tree limbs above him, further dappling his already splotchy fur with sunshine and warmth. The day was pleasant enough, but the scars marring his right foreleg pulsed with a dull ache that almost always heralded rain.

She seemed to be enjoying herself immensely, though he wondered how she could possibly catch anything with such boisterous enthusiasm. That alone told him she wasn't very old. His nose twitched as a rush of refreshing wind blew into his face, filling his nostrils with her scent. She smelled of dirt, for all her splashing, and other wolves of a similar scent. Generally, that meant dens and litter mates. Though he'd thoroughly inspected this tract of land for any sign of occupation, he wondered if he'd missed a mother and cubs.

Not that he truly had a claim to the area. Lone wolves held a claim on nothing, but he'd come to think of this area as home recently, out of simplicity. He hadn't left the area since Underfoot had been slain. Even thinking about the little hare sent such pain through him that he wanted to run out and snarl at the little she-wolf, just to ruin her happiness so that she was as miserable as he was.

But he didn't move as she left the river and came to his side of the bank, shaking water from her coat. She was a pretty thing, but so young. His tail flicked behind him as her nose worked, no doubt finally catching his scent.

Just walk away...

He wasn't fit company for anyone, let alone this happy little she-pup.

Narrowing his eyes, he chuffed out an unhappy breath to get her attention.

Wait. Waaaait. There was someone else here! Evie froze, ears lowering and tail no longer wagging. Yes, she could pick out the scent of another wolf now more easily. Not anyone she knew (no surprise) but she wasn't sure if he was the one that claimed this area or not. Identifying pack boundries was still something she was learning to perfect. Really, she just found herself getting distracted whenever anyone tried to teach her something new.

Lowering her nose to hover above the ground, the shewolf sniffed lightly, searching for the source of the other wolf's scent.

And then someone chuffed and she yipped, jumping back with her tail up and ears flattened. "Who's there?" She asked, gaze finally falling on the others location. Blinking, Evie stayed as she was for a moment longer until, feeling a little embarrassed by being spooked, she sat down.

It was a male. Bigger than she was. And not very happy if his look was anything to go by.

"Someone you probably shouldn't be around," he said sharply as his neck fur bristled, but after only a moment, the fur flattened and his ears laid back again as he turned his head away with a snort. "Go away, pup."

Rising to his feet, he went down to the river's edge, sniffing the wet, muddy bank. Dozens of animals frequented this area as a drinking spot, which had been part of the reason that him and Underfoot had picked it. Grimacing at the image of his dead friend, he dipped his head to drink.

He should have left the area days ago. The cougar was still hunting here, but it had been more unsuccesful than it should have been. He wondered if she was injured or ill; either would keep her from making a proper kill, and she had cubs to feed. That had been the only reason she'd been willing to attack Underfoot to begin with, and only when Ash had walked a dozen yards away for a pawful of moments.

"You're still here," he murmured, glancing at her from the corner of his eye as he drank.

Instinctively, her own fur bristled and her lips peeled back briefly before she snorted. She blinked big green eyes back at the other wolf, head tilting a little from one side to the other. Someone she shouldn't be around? What did he mean by that?! Oh wait. Maybe he didn't want company... yep. That must have been it! Judging by what he said following his 'warning'.

Maybe if she was any other wolf, she would have taken his words more seriously.

But she wasn't.

Evie's ears fell back slightly as he got to his feet, but when he did nothing but walk towards the water, she settled. In fact, she risked getting to her feet again and following behind curiously. But all he did was get a drink.

"Guess I am." Her tail wagged slightly. "Who are you? Do you live here?" Evie canted her head, eyes flickering around to the brush around them. Was he alone? Or were there others?
