When the pod roof lifted and Melvin was released, he rose up out of the golem control pod and staggered to his feet before he covered his mouth. The world was swimming and he still felt sick and short of breath. All his nerves had collected into a whirlwind and he didn't know if he wanted to pass out or throw up.
The other techs looked at him with mild concern, more that the pod might be faulty for making Melvin have this sort of effect, but more or less were ignoring him. One did nudge a trash bin nearby with his shoe as if to offer that instead of their shoes for any stomach unloading.
He needed air. No. No, he needed a bathroom.
Trying to keep his head from swimming, he headed out of the room and to the nearest bathroom. He didn't even shut the door behind him when he moved into the stall and started to throw up.

Rin's pod shot open shortly after Melvin's. Just in time so she could watch him dart out of the room. She grunted irritably before stumbling out of her pod after him. She stumbled a lot, not even giving her mind the chance to re-figure out the controls for her real body. She followed him all the way to the bathroom. She gave no ******** right now, "Melvin? ******** s**t, are you okay?"

Taking a moment to heave what little was in his stomach before going on this golem exploration, all he could do was shake his head just slightly as he continued to bend over the porcelin bowl before he felt that there really wasn't anything left.
His arms were shaking as he held to the sides of the stall, gasping as he looked down before he was sure he wasn't going to heave again. Flushing, he stepped out, embarrassment flashing on his features as he glanced at Rin before he went over to the sink to turn on the cold water and wash his face. He wanted to brush his teeth already.
"I'm okay." He said, realizing now he was far, far away from that woman. She never touched him and in no way could reach him here. Pale, he washed his face before throwing some on the back of his neck and taking deep breathes. He then took handfuls of the cold water and drank it, his hands still shaking no matter how much he willed them to stay still. Sure, it wasn't purified or filtered, but it was better than nothing.

Rin watched Melvin go through the motions of trying to ease himself back down. He said he was okay but.., "What did I tell you about not lying?" She was slowly realizing now that she was in the men's room right now. Heh.

"What?" He wasn't really paying attention. He hair was dripping as he turned off the water, reaching out to take some paper towels. "I don't know. Don't?" He couldn't really focus on much, let alone something he might have hear before.
Turning, he leaned against the wall and slowly slide down to sit down - even if the floor was probably dirty. Closing his eyes and taking deep breathes, he set his glasses in his lap and just tried to get some strength back into his system. He felt wiped out.
"You're in the boy's bathroom." He pointed out.

"Damn right don't. What the hell happened back there?" She watched with keen concern as he slid to the floor - even Rin was acutely aware of how filthy that floor was - because, yes, boy's bathroom. She wandered over to stand by him, "So?"

"I.." Well, it was pretty obvious what happened. "..I guess I lost it."
Guessed? I felt like I was in a rave and everything bumping into me was a emotion! You had me worried.
It's fine. I'm okay now.
He breathed deep before leaning in, setting his brow against his knees.
He was quiet for a while.
"I know her."

"Know who? What happened?" Rin criiinged but... carefully... slowly... horrifyingly.. slid down to sit next to Melvin on the floor. The horror. She'd endure. She placed a hand on his shoulder, "Come on Melvin. What's up?"

He flinched when she touched him, and eased back out of the touch. "Don't, I'm...." He shook his head, breathing out a sigh. In all his time, he hadn't discussed the incident that caused him to see Shadows ever since he was a teenager. Back when his parents tried to understand and, feeling he was a bit touched in the head, sent him to a child psychiatrist to figure out where his sudden delusions were stemming from. In all cases, it had always bee accepted that, following logic, that something genetically, chemically, or environmentally was causing him to hallucinate and create his own fiction. It was never accepted - aside from his sister. Since then, he tried to convince himself he was delusional and after that didn't work, that it was best not to upset anyone and kept it to himself.
Even in Deus where everyone saw what he saw, he still didn't feel right talking about it - as if everyone would think he was crazy.
It was very personal, and he had a hard time doing "personal" things.
"I didn't always see Shadows." Even when he started, he felt like he should clam up and just brush Rin off. He could ignore her, cause her to be upset, but later mend it. It would be fine, but then she'd ask again. After a reaction like that, she'd pester.
"I was normal until I was about 12." He refused to look at her. "My friends and I were bored and decided it would be fun to go dicking around an abandoned house in our neighborhood. The place was pretty rotted and I fell through one of the floors. I hurt my legs in the fall and they ran to get our parents."
It still terrified him to remember it, no mater how many times he replayed it, and now that he had that woman's image fresh in her mind, everything came back in a refreshed clarity. "That woman thing was there and the entire place was filled with bugs. I don't know what she was doing down there, but she got pissed."
He went quiet again. "After a while, all our folks came and got me out."
"I saw Shadows ever since."

Even though he'd asked her not to, Rin placed her hand back on his shoulder again part way through his story. She looked concerned as he seemed to have skipped part of his story. "What did she do? You say she got pissed but... no one reacts the way you did just by being scolded."

"She screamed. Told me to run. The whole was just...filling with bugs. Then she grabbed me and..." He twitched just a bit as if the touch was happening again. "..let one of her centipedes crawl on me." That had been the worst. "...and it just stayed there....burning." He could still imagine the centipede wrapping about his neck. it's many legs dancing across his young skin and searing pain. Even when he was taken out from the house, he had yelled at the pain, but everyone had assumed his legs were broken and he was dealing that with that pain instead. When he was in the hospital, he freaked out about the bug on his body, and someone said he must have been traumatized and had to knock him out just to keep him still. No one saw it, and after a while, it was just gone. However, no one could explain the burn on his neck, and they just chalked it up later to the fact that their probably was some old chemicals down there. Even still, it didn't explain the pattern, and what he felt was solid proof was dismissed for some safer explanation.
He felt short of breath again, and wasn't sure if he wanted to leave the sanctuary of the bathroom to go outside for fresh air, or to just stay here and not risk passing out somewhere. He wanted to go back to his room, fine Allan, and lay there with the lights on. That and hot shower.
Turning his head, he glanced up at her, looking her over. "Do you feel okay?"

"Where?" Rin asked before starting to rub his shoulder a bit, "and I am fine. Why wouldn't I be okay?" She watched him keenly for any subtle little twinges of frustration or deception.

"Why does it matter?" He asked. "It doesn't many any difference." He set his head back down.
"Just worried...if golems transferred damage in any way. It's not my department." And if he had been burned again in a golem, then he would be concerned about Rin being in close proximity to that creature.

"It matters because you're my friend and that thing really upset you and I want to understand... exactly... what it is..," Rin knows what you are up to Melvin, but she isn't giving up. "Please, Melvin?" She pouted just a bit. As for golems though, "I'm sure you're okay... I don't see anything from where she grabbed you."

The pleading didn't help, and she really didn't give him anything to throw a question back to aside from asking if she was sure she was okay.
Talking about the burn made him feel like he was exposing a disgusting abnormality on his body, like webbed toes or a third n****e. No matter what, you would look at that person, look at him, and just picture it. His pristine image stained by a parasitic mark.
"On my neck."
