I like the concept, and maybe just work on refining your tekteking (I'm aiming to do the same thing as yourself and have been working on it like mad 9: ). Some tips that I've found useful are 'try to keep to three colors max'. Another good tip is to 'make sure the clothes that you use on the Avatars match up with leg/arm/head items'. I hope that helps!

They're very cute, and I agree with taeu.. practice makes perfect. Try entering some tektek contests or hang out in the Avatar Talk forum for ideas and to hone your skills. The more you do it, the easier it'll be. There's so many items out there but once you familiarize yourself with them you'll get so much better at it.

I got bored and made twin sisters. One is light, and the other is dark. These were just for fun. I was lazy and made nothing in the way of contrast. Will probably do a 'study of contrast' one later. No price limit.

Esi-Bast If anyone doesn't mind me practicing with invo tekteks, it will help a lot. /Scared of being outside guilds. Scary out there. ★ I'll have to update mine, but once I do, I'll send you the link.
Also, an important thing to focus on is what a certain character would wear, if your avatar is character based. For example, the character that my current avatar depicts prefers to wear clothes that show a lot of skin. ★

I would practice with adding accessories, like hats, gloves, and other bits and bobs.
Also, the thing with color matching is that if you're using a color, non-matching shades of that color will stick out like a sore thumb.
One thing that also helps is making sure one half of the avatar doesn't look too big compared to the other.

You've got a nice flair in your tektek designs and with loads of practice, I'm sure you'll become even better (^O^) You've got the knack of creating by theme and assorted colours. The next step is to refine them. Venture into adding accessories that may seem off the hook but in actual are essentially vital to make the tektek spiffy. Try out various hair bangs to add with wig items and/or stock hair (hairs in salon durem).
What I do when I tektek is usually decide on the colours then on the theme. Most would do themes first and colours later xD Whatever your preference is. Then it's a matter of throwing in the items I desire. I would also hit hide instead of deleting the items in my list just in case if I decided to add the item back to the list later. Saves time to search it back again xD
If you're interested in checking out some of my tekteks, feel free to do so xD Not so much since I'm leaning more towards tektek cosplays at the moment. Those are the randomly selected 'oc tekteks' that I have in my tektek gallery. The rest are.. well... cosplay-based xD
Just so you know, I started out extremely lousy xP But hanging around in Avatar Talk and entering avatar contests as well as making tekteks as a random side hobby in Gaia certainly provided me the practice I needed to improve =D
Oh yeah... have fun =P
