Muka was hopeful about this Scarentines Day. It was his first with Needle and he wanted it to be special, but their 'date' was to be a party thrown by his father. He was told it would be 'small' and while he didn't believe that, he was at least hoping it wasn't one of the grand affairs that were usually thrown.

Muka had come for his ghoulfriend with a small bouquet of nightshade blooms, specially splattered in red ink to look like a spray of blood. It was gruesomely romantic and the florists had gotten used to taking the strix's orders of ink-tinted flowers and seemed to now revel in the challenge of making each bouquet or corsage he ordered into a new and interesting project.

The strix loved giving Needle reasons to wear the few gowns and dresses she allowed him to buy her, as well as small tokens of simple jewelry. Bracelets were useless to her so it only ended up being necklaces (and maaaybe there had been one anklet.. which was nice since she didn't wear shoes often). He'd made sure to dress in compliment to her, almost a throwback for him, in cream and gold and burgundy for the holiday.

The car was the same as usual, the large hearse with the shambling zombie driver, and the drive had been straight and brief since they were headed out to the fringes of town where the houses got bigger and farther apart. The pumpkin moon was large behind his father's mansion which gave it an adequate silhouette for Needle as Muka escorted her from the car.

"He promises that it will be a small party." Muka grinned, feeling the odd emotion of pride to have his ghoulfriend with him. He didn't understand it but it was an undeniable feeling. "And my brother will be here." He giggled. "He likes you I think."

Needle wasn't sure what 'Scarentines' was, but it was suddenly everywhere. She eventually figured it out and was torn between liking the novelty of the idea and feeling it was something a little silly to actually have. Seriously, a day strictly for couples? Then again, having an entire day to dote on Muka and be doted on (not that the Gentlemonster had ever not doted on her, really)? And have it socially acceptable? Yes please! It was part of growing up and 'outside' experiences, too. So as weird of an idea as it was, there was too much good about it to overlook it completely.

When Muka came to pick her up that day she made sure to look her best; the newest dress Muka had bought for her, the necklace he had given her on their date to the Museum (though this rarely left her person now, as she wore it under her kimono top), and even put on a pair of high heels, which she was told was all the rage. The shoes were something of a surprise, a little venture she did on her own. Thankfully she brought her dress with her that day, so the salesghoul could help her out.

Her feet were already hurting, but the pain was worth it as it generally was when it came to pleasing Muka.

The flowers were gorgeous and she held onto them for as long as she could, tracing her fingers over the delicate ink splatters. "They really have outdone themselves!" Needle had chuckled, giving her charming boilfriend a little kiss for his efforts. The conversation settled into idle banter on their ride over, Needle thankfully getting used to the hearse and travelling in ways that weren't walking or phasing.

"...If memory serves, your Father is not known for small parties..." Needle sounded amused despite being very hesitant. Parties...she had never been to one outside of school, and while that one was fine...this was a different party. With Muka's family, who all come from a world she did not. Despite her fear of hurting him or tearing his clothes she reached out, threading her fingers through his. It was comforting to know that his Brother liked her, though. "That is a relief, he is an interesting fellow."

"...What if I do something wrong?" She couldn't resist asking; she wasn't often nervous, but when she was she couldn't quite hide it. Not from Muka, who was always so good at smoothing her fears.

"Well, father does exaggerate but he's not known for lying." The strix paused at the door a moment to give Needle a reassuring nuzzle and kiss. "So it's sure to be smaller than he's used to." He giggled. The giggle increased as she expressed worry about doing something wrong. "I've made it a career to do things wrong at home! Don't worry about that."

As if on cue the demonic looking door knockers rolled their eyes and the doors swung opne for the pair. Muka, unbeknownst to Needle, had been adament with his father about the lighting in the house. It had been adjusted in such a way so that things were as visible as possible for Needle. It wasn't too bright, nor too dim for those with sight, and bits of light were present in the most important places such as furniture and doorways, so that the ghoul could see the outlines of things and not smash into them.

The front hall was mostly empty but another zombie butler, almost identical to the first, came to take Needle's bouquet and put it somewhere safe until she left. With a grunt he motioned to the lit up entry way where the sounds of laughter and people talking seemed to be drifting from.

"Well." Muka grinned. "People aren't pouring out into the entry hall. That's reassuring!" He didn't give much time to enjoy the double curved stairs, the room lined with paintings of dead relatives and skeleton horses in fields of wilted grass. Instead he escorted her towards the room.

"But I am a guest--" The doors creaked open and Needle quieted down immediately, regaining her composure and gracefully straightening up properly, bringing back the calculated air she had been raised to show. This was a party. With Guests. Her Boilfriend's Parent, Siblings and Friends...she couldn't afford to be the awkward teenager she had hoped to experience away from her clan; she had to be her clan, she had to take what she had been taught and apply it. Act like the adult she had been bred and preened to be...even if there was really nobody on the other side of the door.

She naturally didn't suspect that the lighting was Muka's doing, but she was pleased to be able to clearly see the outlines of objects she didn't want to run into. Granted she never did leave Muka's side, and placed an awful lot of trust in the Gentlemonster to keep her from walking into this, that or the other thing.

"Oh. Thank you~" She said softly to the Zombie that took her bouquet, watching the ink disappear somewhere safe until Muka piped up again. "...They usually do?" This place was huge! She couldn't imagine how many people it took to have them literally pour into the hallway! The stairs and paintings were something she barely noticed, too nervous on the very immediate meeting of a group of complete - and apparently powerful, by society's standards - strangers.

The whole way she fought with herself, trying to push down the nervous twists her stomach was trying to do; despite her inner chaos she moved gracefully, almost gliding at Muka's side. The sounds of the other party goers became louder and louder, enough to make her slightly, subtly grip his arm a little tighter, always mindful of her needles.

Here goes nothing...

The room they entered was medium sized, though to Needle it probably seemed large, and to Muka's surprise it was a small get together as far as his father was concerned. It was also a bit more of a relaxed affair. It was laid out similar to their prom had been with about a dozen round tables with four or five settings on one side of the room. There was a dance floor cleared where a few elegant looking demons twirled to music played by some sort of haunted or enchanted band of instruments. A buffet style meal was set up for everyone though a few zombie servers did wait to clear plates or fetch food for those just a bit too lazy to get their own meals.

"Oooh." Muke hooted happily. He'd not often been invited as a guest to anything his father had thrown and his excitement, if not obvious from his grin, would have been clear to Needle by the way his fluttering heart picked up and his birdlike noises increased within his own personal bubble of space. "This is nice!" Flower arrangements on the tables matched those he'd given Needle so ink splattered flowers stood out to the ghoul all over the room.

Several heads turned to their entrance though he only recognized a few and his lanky mustached brother practically bounded for them. "Mukaaaa and Needle!" Stache twirled his mustache before bowing deeply and stealing Needle's hand away to bow to. He wasn't as deft with kissing needle ridden women. "Glad to see you! Jackin' great to see you!!" His crimson skin practically glowed in the Scarentine themed room.

Needle's eyes wandered behind her mask, observing what she could from the room without making it too obvious what she was doing; it was one of the few times where she was honestly glad for the piece that almost always covered her eyes. The room did seem like an awful lot like Prom to her, and the table layout was much clearer for her now that they had ink-splattered floral arrangements perched on them. Another slight squeeze to Muka's arm was given at the discovery, excited but hellbent on not being too obvious about it...but just like she could feel his excitement, he would have been easily able to pick up on hers.

"It is very lovely...I will have to thank your Father." For the flowers especially; it was a rather touching touch, though it almost embarrassed her with the effort that was put in to make her included. Being doted on was still not something she was used to, and seeing all the flowers here had been no doubt made special for her, well...at least it was a good embarrassment.

"Stache~" Needle said politely in greeting as she bowed to him out of habit, recalling his name from the last - though brief - meeting, along with all the stories Muka told of his very outgoing brother. He took her hand and she couldn't help but give the briefest hint of a smile at the gesture; it didn't seem to come as easily to him as it did for Muka. "The pleasure is all mine~ I continue to hear many things about you! It is great to hear you are doing well." She managed to resist the urge to look back at Muka to seek his approval, but she desperately wanted to; these particular formal settings were lost on her.

"Well! Yes I'm doing well." The brother laughed and there was a hint in his tone that 'well' was a flexible term. Muka occasionally told Needle stories of his brother's exploits which usually involved wealthy widows and sometimes women of a married sort. Climbing out of bedroom windows might as well be a profession for him at this point. "You are looking stunning, if I may say so." Stache twirled his impressive mustache. "Got yourself a good one." He gave Muka a hearty slap on the shoulder which caused the strix to giggle. "I snagged you kids some chairs at my table." He pointed to a somewhat central table with a bored looking woman sitting there.

"Thank you!" Muka chirped, "For everything. I see father got my notes about the decorations and lighting." His head bobbled happily. The brothers had another moment or two of small talk, nothing important, before the man himself appeared. Mr. Knobwalker didn't look much older than his sons but he carried himself with an air of importance that the others in the room just didn't have. His skin was a smooth grey, similar to Muka's, his eyes golden yellow as well. His black goatee was curled at the point and he was wearing a burgundy suit for the Scarentines celebration.

"Ulmuka! Needle!" He flashed a shining white grin and the engraver ghoul would note that the flower in his label was ink splattered in black to set him apart from everything else. "Charming! What a lovely couple! Thank you for coming!" He swept Needle's hand up to a kiss, almost as good at it as her boilfriend was at that particular action. He was smooth, groomed, and a bit like the fanciest car salesman you'd ever met.

"You may." Needle replied softly to his rhetorical question, not quite understanding that she didn't have to actually reply. Her pale cheeks had flushed lightly, despite her best efforts on staying as Engraver-esque as possible. She did understand that his next comment was towards Muka, mostly because she heard the shoulder slap and following giggle, but this one she couldn't resist answering. "Ah, no, it is I who lucked out!" She murmured, taking a moment to lean her head against her boilfriend's shoulder; she could only spare the moment though, before her conditioning had her straightening again, her attention drifting while the Brothers talked. She observed the woman at the table Stashe had gestured to, not commenting only because the boils seemed to be enjoying their little chat.

It was, naturally, the different coloured ink on the lapel flower that caught her attention. It took her a moment to recognize the silhouette, and the voice just confirmed it. Their Father - Mr. Knobwalker. The nerves set back in her stomach, feeling a little strange about meeting him this time, especially now that her feelings had grown exponentially for this man's son.

"Mr. Knobwalker~" Needle managed a small smile and a small bow of respect, just before her hand was claimed for a rather expert kiss. "Thank you for inviting me. This room is lovely! I appreciate the effort you have made on my behalf...I can not express how much your thoughtfulness means to me." The ghoul was flushing again against her will, however softly. "I am afraid I am inexperienced in social gatherings, and so I apologize in advance if I make an error." With the attention of someone so seemingly important, Needle couldn't help but cover her own tracks; she had told Muka several times, and perhaps she had mentioned it once when she last met the Senior Knobwalker, but this was an actual party. It was a different setting, different circumstances...and a whole new experience for the Engraver.

"On a brighter note...perhaps, at some point tonight or another day, you could educate me on your business? Muka has told me quite a lot about your...ah..." She paused, having forgotten the word. "...Hotels?" She glanced at Muka for confirmation, but since she didn't move, he likely wouldn't have noticed. "And I must say, the concept intrigues me. It is something I have never had to think about until I enrolled in Amityville." The Engraver's head turned then, to focus on the angled form of Stashe. "And you as well! I am interested in learning more about what you do for your living!" Because she thought she understood it, but...there were plenty of gaps she didn't grasp.

Ulmuka was politely silent as his ghoulfriend conversed with his father. He instead simply listened with one ear and with the other had small talk with Stache about the woman he'd brought and what ridiculous circumstance he'd gotten himself into this time.

"Oh ho.. Please call me Senior. Mr. Knobwalker would be my father." The demon smirked and leaned towards her as if he was telling a secret, "and he thankfully is not here tonight." Muka had never discussed a grandfather but it was likely he didn't know him very well. Senior tutted her dismissivelywhen she commented on her behavior. "Oh shush.. you are already more polite and well behaved than quite a few people I've had to my home."

Senior offered his arm to Needle a moment and Ulmuka did relinquish her, if only because they were walking to the table. "I'd also be interested in hearing about your people. I've heard of Engravers but you are a secretive lot, yes?" Unknown to the ghoul, he was always looking for new business opportunities so undiscovered sects of society definitely came of interest.

Muka and Stache trailed along and the woman at the table, some sort of egyptian inclined lady with dramatic eye makeup and horns, perked up a bit and smiled as they arrived. Stache snatched a drink from a passing butler and gave it to her with a smile, before almost choking on a cough when Needle spoke of whathe did for a living. Muka snagged two glasses of bubbly red liquid and set them at their places, giggling at his brother.

"I would be delighted to have a conversation any time you'd like." Senior finally let go of Needle, his touches practiced and light. He seemed to be an expert at all of this. "Just not right now." He laughed and winked. "More guests have arrived and I should greet them." He placed a another kiss on her hand, nodded to his sons, and was off to greet another arriving couple.

Muka was by her side and on her arm in a moment. His giggle seemed as close to nervous as he got. "Well .. heh.. that was painless."

...Didn't Ulmuka tell her that once, when they met? 'Mr. Knobwalker is my Father'? Heh. The Engraver couldn't help the amused breath that escaped her lips; for being completely different, they did have quite a few similarities, didn't they? It was cute! "We do indeed keep to ourselves. My Sister and I are the first two Engravers in several generations to leave the Manor. I would be happy to share some information." As much as she plotted and planned to separate from her clan, she still had some ounce of respect for her heritage: the secrets were meant to stay secret, and she would try to uphold that ideal.

"Of course, do not let me keep you!" Needle moved as Senior did, taking his subtle cues and leads. It still surprised her how easily he could manuver around the spikes on her arms; even Muka had a small amount of trouble at the beginning. One day she would have to ask him, but today was reserved for her Boilfriend and conversation. "Thank you again for the invitation~" She said in way of a farewell, her hand falling lightly on Muka's arm in an often practised ease.

"Am I imagining things, or were you actually nervous?" The ghoul's voice was low as she teased her boilfriend, easily picking up the subtle change in his usually chipper voice. The corners of her lips set into a very faint smile, now looking across the table towards the familiar silhouette of Stache and the unfamiliar female he was with.

"It is nice to meet you as well~ My name is Needle." She was trying very hard to not be as awkward as she felt.

"Heh.. nervous?" Muka giggled the accusation away and moved them back to sit with his brother. More guests were arriving and though it wasn't super crowded, it became enough of a gathering that the teens were able to adequately blend in among the partiers.

It turned out that Stache's date's name was Giselle and she was a bit of a fashion entrepreneur. She did clothing design and was happy to talk to Needle, glad to have another ghoul it seemed, about her eventual plan to contract a mad scientist to custom make patchwork models for her. Models in all manners and sizes so that she could adequately 'break free' of the modern conventions of size and beauty and embrace all that was wonderful about being from Halloween. To Muka.. it sounded ambitious and a bit.... artsy. He'd left the ghouls to chat for a moment so he could get them plates.

Conversation then switched as Muka took over talking to Giselle and Stache began to very emphatically discuss tattoos with Needle. He was very insistent that he had tattoos that would just not be appropriate to show her, and expressed interest in perhaps having her tattoo him in the future. Muka, it seemed, was attempting to get Giselle to make some clothes for him.

Not surprising.

By the time they were finishing up their plates many of the patrons had begun to dance. Muka glanced to Needle, resting a hand on her knee under the table. "Would you like to .. ahh.. dance?" he grinned.

Hope you don't mind me fast forwarding through table conversation
PostPosted: Mon Apr 29, 2013 3:03 pm

Needle chuckled softly as Muka giggled away her accusation, and after taking her seat beside her boilfriend she only happily engaged in the conversations. Stache's ladyfriend seemed very interesting to her, though for the unlife of her she couldn't quite understand what Giselle had meant by 'modern conventions' when it came to size and beauty. She did at one point suggest taking a trip to Amityville, because the Silhouettes of some of the students were quite interesting.

When she found herself talking to Stache, she assured him that he had nothing she hadn't 'seen' before, as the saying went. Not that she saw much, of course. The offer of tattooing him was left open, all he had to do when he was ready to get one was seek her out.

Muka's touch, however gentle, startled her. She hadn't been expecting it, and she quickly shot the Gentlemonster an apologetic look. Well, as apologetic as she could physically look, anyway. "Ah, yes, of course!" The Engraver smiled, finding a way to slide her hand over his, carefully pushing her own chair back to give herself room to stand. "It has been a while since we danced!" She hoped she wouldn't crash in to anyone.

"Perhaps after, you could give me a tour of the house?" Her voice had lowered, a quiet suggestion meant only for Muka to hear; she didn't know if it was rude to ask or not, but she was curious about this particular Manor. It was already so much more different than the one she was used too.

"Oh yes!" Muka perked. He'd planned on sneaking off anyway. He wanted to show her his room and his father's various collections of things. The backyard was always nice too and the night was a pleasant one. In fact his enthusiasm to show things off to Needle seemed to cut their dance short. On the second round of the room, Muka danced his ghoulfriend neatly out of the room.

He giggled and held her tightly, since they had been mid-spin when he flung their bodies into the hall (too forcefully probably). The strix held on so Needle didn't go flying. The hall wasn't as empty as expected but thankfully they only recieved passing glances from the couples who stood around and chatted. It was a party after all and giggling, spinning teens wasn't even close to raucous in comparison to the parties normally held here.

After regaining their bearings, Muka took his ghoul's hand and led her to a side hall which was lined with statues and paintings. He could have taken her up the main staircase to his room, but this way had more art. The statues were mostly old, some seemed to be related by the inscriptions, but towards the end things took a more modern turn with strange shapes and indiscernible subject matter. Each piece was lit by a spotlight so Needle would have to lean in to look at anything not ink based.

"Some of my father's art.." The strix was very noncommital about it, though he did stop to admire a statue of a very stately demon with impressive beardage. "I always liked this one.." He giggled.

There was, at the very end, a small room by itself with a massively high glass cieling and one whole wall dedicated to a family tapestry. It showed every relative for generations and went so high up that it was impossible to see the top names from the floor. Muka's name was there at the bottom, along with the dozens of other siblings, as the most recently added on.

"This is our .. ahh.. family tree." One would notice that unless a woman was a blood-born child, there were almost no women listed as wives or mothers of the children. "I'm there!" He lifted the bottom part of the fabric to poke his own name. A string caught on his talon and he momentarily panicked to free himself before he ruined it.

Needle laughed as they quite literally danced out of the room, clinging a little too tightly to Muka during the somehwat-too-forceful spin. She was quick to quiet her giggles upon realizing they weren't alone, but couldn't stop smiling while they wandered hand in hand down the hall. The rows and rows of art did interest her and she did lean in to take a look at something here and there, especially if it had an odd shape to it. "Is this the art you told me about? The ones your Father had done of himself or other relatives?" She inquired, leaning in close to one that didn't look like Senior in the slightest, before taking a closer look at the one Muka seemed to fancy.

It didn't take her long to realize why.

"Ah-hah, and now I know why you are growing your beard!" She half-teased, sliding in close to nuzzle into his chinfluff as she so often enjoyed doing. When they reached the room, the impressive height of the family tree was lost to her; once it went past Muka's general height it became mostly hidden from her.

"A family tree...as in, a record of your FEAR relatives?" It was one of the many things she had heard of but had never seen. The ghoul only barely managed to repress a giggle at his panic and instead put her energy to a more useful endeavor; namely, leaning in close enough to read the names and see the branches that linked Muka and his plethora of siblings to Senior.

"...Your Mother is not on here? ...Ah, it seems no second parent is listed at all...Is that common?" Needle looked up at Muka, allowing the curiousity in her voice since her mask hid it from her face.

"Well most men in my father's line.. ah.. heh.. are much like him. Many children and the mother's don't hang around much." He shrugged. "It is just their way I suppose. The women born into the family don't usually have as many children and only take one husband. Or none." With such unique father figures it wasn't a wonder the women didn't marry.

He took her hand guiding her away from the family tree once she'd leaned back upwards. There was a curling staircase at the back of the hallway. It was old, the wood worn from generations of feet going up and down. Muka made sure that Needle climbed the tight curl of stairs ahead of him so that he could catch her if she lost her footing. With the stairs worn away and the poor lighting, it wouldn't be a surprise if she stumbled. He kept a solid hand on the base of her back so she knew he was there to catch her.

The top of the stairs opened into another hall, this time with a large window looking out on the acres of forest behind the house. The carpet was plush and red, the walls lined with a few paintings and torches. Heavy wooden doors were shut tight as they continued on, until Muka stopped in front of one that had quite a few scratchy claw marks around the knob.

He clasped her hand tightly, giggling, as he pulled his ghoulfriend into the room. It was open and airy with a large round bed in the center without posts or a head or foot. It was just a round mass of silk sheets and pillows. He had a private bathroom and huge double glass doors leading to a balcony and the woods beyond.

"This is my room."
