I have an Ubuntu machine. I don't have Steam on it, but I suppose I'll have to now...

You know, my Ubuntu is a virtual machine on my laptop that can't really handle TF2. I'm not sure why I think this is a good idea...
Also, downloading TF2 on my parent's wifi... So many bad ideas on my part...

I'm going to pretend you guys care about stuff that happens to me, so here goes:
I downloaded the .deb for Steam, but when I tried to run it, it told me that I didn't have the libc6 dependency it needed. So I say to myself "Well, yeah, I haven't been on here in forever. I'll just update it." Since it's late, and I don't feel like messing with the terminal (and mostly because I don't have the apt-get command memorized), I just use the Update Manager, and because I am OCD, I had to do every update it found for me. (I'm not completely stupid, I checked and libc6 was one of them). 25 minutes later, I try Steam again, but it's still saying my libc6 is bad. I finally try upgrading in terminal, but (to nobody's surprise), it was already fully updated. Now, I'm updating to the newest version of Ubuntu. I'm on version 10.04, downloading version 12.04. I probably should have done this first, but it's like, a two hour download, plus however long it takes to install. What's really worrying me is that my laptop keeps going to sleep mode when I leave it open all night, even though I told it not to. I'm gonna be so pissed if Steam won't work on my Faux-tato. That's what I named my virtual machine. Because I named my Windows Potato. It's punny. Get it? trololololo. Everyone makes fun of my Potato. I think it's a good, strong name for a computer. Ya know, this reminds me of that one time I downloaded the Steam app on my dad's phone just to open it once and then uninstall it. I know I'm never going to use Linux-Steam on this computer, not when I have Windows-Steam on it already. I'm probably never gonna use Linux-Steam ever, since my only dedicated Linux machines are servers. Man, I am so rambling, aren't I? Sowwy...
tl;dr: Good. Don't read this post. It is late and I am rambling.

Well. That sounds like a helluva lot of trouble... o.O;
And Potato OS is best OS.
Just not a good camera.
And I am greatly tempted to ask you to help me get that penguin now.

Well, Dr. Isthill, you will be pleased to know that Steam is finally installing. I'm glad the dependencies problem got fixed by upgrading Ubuntu. In a few years (I'm assuming that's how long it will take to actually download), I'll let you know if my virtual machine will actually open TF2.

Update: TF2 is now 22% downloaded. My earlier estimate of "a few years" is just a little bit off the mark. Maybe it'll be done this time tomorrow...

Teehee, Dr. Isthill is cheering for me. redface I have really got to stop fangirling over you. It's starting to creep me out, even.
ANYWAY, my download's at 56% now. Assuming my parents don't start hogging their internet, it'll be less than a 24 hour download.
Time to sleep and pray my computer doesn't crash overnight.

Alas, I have run out of *ahem* steam on this.
Whenever I try to open TF2, it says that the game is currently unavailable and to try again later. I checked on my Windows, and TF2 is totally available right now, so the problem isn't with Valve or my internet.
I can only figure it must either be because my Virtual Machine doesn't have memory left after downloading Steam, or because it has crappy virtual graphics. I messed around with the memory and graphics of my virtual machine and I even tried TF2 in textmode, but nothing seemed to make any difference.
I wonder... Can the...? *exasperated sigh* But I am so sick of messing with this crap.
But... but, penguin...

*sigh* Doin' what I probably should've from the start. I got out my old laptop (it's about 5 years old now) and I'm going to try dual booting Ubuntu. I'm using my old laptop, though, so a) I don't risk messing up my main laptop (which is what happened last time I tried to dual boot), and b) because I already freakin' downloaded TF2 twice on my main laptop.

I have so utterly hijacked this thread. It is now the Roisu Complains About Downloading Ubuntu and maybe people also talk about the penguin thing or something Thread.
So, yeah, here's the update I'm going to pretend you guys care about: I used Wubi to dual boot Ubuntu 12.10 on my old XP laptop. Wubi made things easy. I just told it what I wanted my username/password to be and I told it to give the Ubuntu partition 20 gigs and then I ignored it for about 3 hours and voila, I was dual booting Ubuntu without all the destroyed boot loader and broken Windows partition shenanigans that happened when I tried a couple years ago. So far, I'm really impressed with Wubi (It's a Windows-based UBuntu Installer, I should probably mention).
First thing I did once I booted in my fancy new OS--well, second, because connecting to the internet was first--was to hop on Firefox to get the Steam Downloader and.... What a surprise, it didn't work. Different problem than last time. The internet led me to believe that updating Ubuntu would fix it, so now I've been spending about an hour and a half downloading and installing updates. I figure, if I had over an hour and a half of updating to go through, that was probably (hopefully) the problem. I'm really hopeful that I'll have TF2 successfully installed sometime in the next two days. Maybe this time the game will actually open...

Saw a 12 post thread and thought we got some activity flowing in the guild again. Only to notice it is Roisu rambling again.
Jk, I'm just teasing you Roisu. razz

Ahhh, Wolfie-kun, you should know better to ever assume I'm not rambling.
Speaking of my ramblings, I think my most recent problem had something to do with 32 vs 64 bit architecture, but after a few sudo's and another hour of updates to Ubuntu, I am finally downloading Steam (again).
I was about to pull my hair out, since I promised myself I wouldn't go to bed until TF2 was downloading (again).
