Despite her apparent lack of boobs and flowing locks, Madeline hadn't forgotten about her training. The bishounen-turned girl had rolled messily out of bed at the crack of dawn with a groan, her hair sticking up at every odd angle possible. After a quick attempt at taming the monster, she dressed in stolen clothes from Lex and Dakota, grabbed her coat, and stomped out to the training fields with a grumpy, yet utterly determined expression stuck to her face.
She was tired, and cold, and the mud squelching beneath her boots was disgustingly loud against the bland backdrop of Deus, but despite that, she was secretly just a little interested in how fighting would feel in this new bishounen-like body. Would it be any different? Or was the lack of boobs just completely for show? Madeline grunted as one of her boots sunk into the mud and got stuck, staring down at the accusing limb as she yanked it back up with a disgusting squelch, flinging mud everywhere ----
And right into the face of someone else.
Oops.

Stormy had been in a daze for two reasons: for one, she had been on an insomniatic binge against sleep after recovering her memory; for two, she had a totally foreign body to deal with. A foreign body that quite honestly still looked like a trap, boy or not. Maybe she was just too feminine, maybe it was the supremely long reddish brown hair, or maybe it was the docile and almost vulnerable look she constant wore as her natural expression. Either way, Stormy was not prepared to avoid getting mud on her face in the least.
First she blinked drowsily.
Then she sniffed.
Then she wished she hadn't sniffed as she quickly snorted out the bit of mud that had tried invading her nostril.
"Oh my," came her soft tenor as she wiped it off on the back of her hand, squinting at the offender. "Is this yours? Terribly sorry, I'll give it back if you want . . ." She reached out a hand to try and smear the mud back on the other hunter, quite sincere in her offer to return what wasn't hers.
The trainee really wasn't all there to begin with. Sleeplessness just heightened her Luna Lovegood sense.

Madeline wasn't necessarily one to stare at others, but in this instance, she was. "Oh, no, keep it." She said, dodging the hand by tilting her body almost completely to one side to dodge the outstretched fingers. "Sorry, I didn't mean to get mud all over you - if you want to return it somewhere at all, you can return it to the ground." She rolled her eyes, straightening and sticking her bishounen hands into her pockets to scrutinize the strange Luna Lovegood-like person in front of her.
It was difficult to judge whether or not he - or she??? - was actually male or not... considering no one had seen their original bodies for a few days.
Sniffing and tucking her head down into the scarf wrapped around her neck, Madeline peered curiously at Stormy, shuffling to balance her weight to one side. "So. It looks like introductions are in order, huh? I'm Madeline. Ignore the masculine body - its a side effect of being stuck in crazyville too long." Her lips curled up into a devious little grin. "You here to train? I could use a sparring partner."
Usually, she would just drag Ami out of bed and through the mud to the fields like an overly excited master and a very unexcited cat. Suffice to say though, after nearly getting eviscerated by a fortress of pillows the last time she'd tried that this early in the morning, she'd forgone that option in favor of bothering Stormy instead.
Sorry, bro.

Oh . . . Whoops. Well one never knew about Hunters, she guessed; quirkiness was something she could practically assume. And who knew, mud was terribly good for cleansing . . . Or wait, maybe that's a special mud . . . Wait hold up, she was being talk to! Stormy took an extra five seconds than normal to process even the simple greeting, yawning softly at the end. "Hum? Oh. Oh hi, Miss Madeline, I-I don't . . ."
< < You need the training, Hatchling. Sorely, by my calculations. > > Thane practically was chomping at the bit for some action after his owner had languidly spent the day in half a daze.
Mentally foggy, she was easily persuaded and blinked awake. "I mean, I suppose . . . Yeah. Okay. I'd like the practice!" The trainee bobbed her head a few times and stretched out, adjusting her hat once her body felt more awake. "I'm not really a boy, but my name's Stormy. I'm, um, not very good at fighting though, so . . . Sorry ahead of time if it gets one-sided," she pre-empted with a soft apology. Because boring people was a terribly, awful offense to the opponent. "Should we right here, or . . .?"

Madeline waited patiently for the girls brain to begin working, her eyes flickering over the tiny bishounen with mild amusement. At least she wasn't making smart remarks like Ami usually did. Though... Madeline smothered a smile very quickly by biting down in the inside of her cheek. Yes, this girl was very, very interesting.
"Oh, cute name." She whistled a bit and took a few steps back, making a face at the sound of mud squelching beneath her boots. "You can call me Mads though - there's no need for Miss, I'm not that proper." She twisted around and summoned Arsen to her hands, the spiked club landing in the wet ground with a thunk.
( Was that really necessary. )
You deserved it, oh Snark Master of mine.
( You're a terrible human being. )
Madeline flicked her eyes to Stormy again and reflected the head bob, her lips curling carnivorously at the edges. "S'fine. I'm not exactly Miss Strategy yet, so if I fall on my a** and make a laughing stock of myself, don't be too surprised."
She switched Arsen from one hand to the other and nodded again at Stormy. "Right here is fine. Anyways, if we're unlucky sods, we might get a mud bath before its over too, ha."

A club. A spiked club. Stormy viewed it with quiet awe, wondering how many things she'd beaten up with it, or what sort of Halloween thing made such a weapon.
< < Yes, very appropriate for the improper. All bluntness and force, no finesse, short range. Little wonder she has no use for strategy. > >
But you're just a big sword yourself . . . ?
< < I am a greatsword, > > Thane snitted as if that settled the matter entirely.
Shaking her head slightly, she summoned her weapon and wished, not for the first time, that she was a bit taller so the thing didn't look like it was practically her height. "I wouldn't want to laugh," she replied quite seriously. "I'm too new to laugh at people, I think. Maybe even then . . ."

"So, um, Mads huh?" Curious choice for a nickname. "Do people ever call you like . . . Mads Hatter? Mads Scientist? Mads Libs? Mads Square?"
Most people would have taken the hint to actually, well, attack, and the greatsword was ready in her hands for some swinging. But not Stormy. Oh no, she liked fretting over details instead.
Names were important too, you know.

Madeline chuckled, swinging the club back and forth in her hands like a baton. She was still a novice at battling if she were going to be completely honest with herself, but she'd figured out how to handle the large brute of a weapon she'd been paired with after months and months of training. "Ah, you get used to it." She shrugged a shoulder at Stormy. "So, new here? How long've you been awake then?"
She readied herself for a first attack, but what came instead was an assault of questions that made her blink. "Mads Hatter? No, I've never gotten called that before..." She tilted her head to the side thoughtfully.
"Maybe I should. I like those. Mads Scientist. Fittting!"
And then, without preamble, she moved forward and swung her club at Stormy's exposed side.

It should be said that the trainee looked a little pleased that she would take to such nicknames. It should also be said that Madeline's swing was met with a small but audible squeak, Fear Shield or not. And in return she got a tiny poke as Stormy retreated, trying to put up a better defense this time. Better than nothing at least?
"Um . . . Since a little after Thanksgiving," she replied, trying to remember on your toes, on your toes. "My first big mission was that one with the weird vortex and Christmas Elves and all of those horsemen popping out of nowhere." Even mentioning it was still enough to bring a small shiver, for even beyond the fact that there were now a teeming mass of doom ponies out there, some events in that battle had been chilling on their own. "You?"

Madeline giggled at the small squeak, rumbling at the poke and lifting her club to bat the greatsword away. Stepping back, she raised a brow at Stormy, her lips quirking upwards into an amiable smile. "Ahh. Exciting times." She said jovially, rolling her shoulders back. "I don't - remember. Summer?" She tilted her head thoughtfully. "You lose track of time here - or maybe that's just me."
She laughed again. "The ponies aren't a very fun lot to have run-in's with. Just be sure there aren't more of them then there are of you." She gestured at Stormy to swing, her lips curling into an open smile. "I wouldn't exactly put it past them to go bat-s**t crazy all over your a**."

E-Exciting? .~. Oh dear, she had a lot of experience to catch up on . . . "I dunno about crazy, but they're a lot of them now," Stormy replied with a worried tilt of her brows. "Whole lots and lots of them; they made the snow black with their legs. I was helping Jake fight some students off when, like, this really tall one came in and started shooting arrows, and his sister or whatever was smacking us around, and so was this witch, and this black dog thing . . . We almost died."
< < Cease the chatter, commence the attack! > >
The trainee paused as Madeline invited her in, then adjusted her grip as she regained the ground she'd lost from the retreat and swung - Ohthankgoditwouldhavebeenembarassingifshemissed.
"I kept defending him lots and even 'sploded the girl horse - um, mare," she rectified, her previously concerned look replaced with one of mild pride. "Really exciting stuff when I think about it . . . What sort've stuff have you done, Mads Scientist?" A temporary nickname for now; eventually, Disney flavored.

"Yeah," Madeline exhaled, adjusting the grip on Arsen. "Always things that go bump in the night." She glanced up at Stormy with a little grin. "Unfortunately, thats basically what we all signed up for in the long run here at Deus. It's a life long nightmare, when you really think about it."
( Just keep chatterin', kiddo, it ain't like this is a spar or anything. )
Shut up.
Madeline grunted and raised the club to block the greatsword, but it was bigger than she'd anticipated, and fear shield or not, she felt the brunt force of its swing against her body, making her feet slide back in the mud. "Ah - " She gave an exasperated exhale. "Stupid mud."
"Well, at least you guys managed to survive. I haven't met this guy - Jake? - yet." She lifted her club, breaking away from Stormy and blinking at the inquiry. "Me?" She tilted her head thoughtfully. "I was here around the time Deus came under siege. That was shitty luck - my first real mission wasn't a mission, it was saving Deus from getting its a** handed to it." She smiled thinly at Stormy. "And of course, some of our own got taken prisoner, so I was part of the rescue party for that."
She swung at Stormy lazily, as though testing how good the girls reflexes were. "And that - " She blanched, "that was a goddamn adventure, if you ask me."

That idea of a forever-nightmare was one she tried to shield herself against, as true as it might end up being. Normal nightmares were enough, thanks . . . Her eyes widened when Madeline mentioned a siege. A siege! "You mean . . ." Oh gosh. Oh gosh. Thre had been enough of them to mount an attack on the base.
The really big base.
The really big base with an epic shield.
She gulped. And then she grew just a bit paler at the mention of having to rescue whomever was kidnapped. Nope nope nope nope, she hoped they never had that sort of bravado ever again. That cold malice she'd seen in battle was more than enough from afar, thanks.
As if to prove the point that she'd find some sort of way to resist being vulnerable to that, Stormy sidestepped the club swing and found herself slamming Madeline in retaliation; apparently this was enough to cause some unknown deity to weep with joy, for sparkles accompanied the attack for further embellishment. Her cheeks grew flushed with embarassment and surprise at the power behind the swing and was quick to say, "Sorrysorrysorry!" Maybe the mud had made her momentum accidentally follow through the dodge or something.
It couldn't be she was getting better, nope.
"I'm guessing it went okay?" Stormy hastily asked, regaining her balance in the mud before her boots got sucked in. "The rescue mission, I mean."

"I mean - yeah, the barriers went down, s**t happened." She smiled at Stormy, waving a hand. "All is fine now, but I mean, thats just the kind of stuff you have to expect here, I guess. Nothing is ever calm for long, and when it is, theres some sort of quiet suffering going on anyways, so." She winked at her, and sparkles seemed to explode from her face like she was in some sort of glitter-made world.
She grunted though, when the greatsword swung into her in retaliation. The mud wasn't helping, and she slid back and stumbled, knocking the weapon away instinctively with her own. "Don't be," She wheezed, waving a hand, "that was really good! Shows me, letting my guard down." Catching her breath, Madeline shook herself out and adjusted her jacket. "Also - you look really sparkly." She examined Stormy with a critical eye before shrugging and pushing herself back up to her full height.
"Yeah, it went - well, as well as could be expected, I guess. Barring the alternate universe part and all." She chuckled. "The s**t that happens here! I mean seriously." She adjusted Arsen and lunged forward, swinging at Stormy with renewed interest. "You really dont believe any of its possible 'til it happens, and then you keep getting one-upped by ********' fate."
Her foot caught on a particularly slick part of ground and instead of following through with her attack, she waved her arms and practically somersaulted past Stormy into a landing that would have had Olympic judges applauding her goddamn finesse.
"I'm not sure I know how to battle as a hot man yet." She muttered, staring down at herself.

They could . . . break the barrier down. Nopenopenope. She definitely had to work on not sucking now.
"So're you," she pointed out, headtilting as the charming sparks of light coming from her wink. Was that a side eff- yes. If her hands hadn't been occupied, Stormy would have clenched them to her chest and jumped a bit gleefully. It's just like in the mangassssssss~ It was weird because she was the dude but hot guys running around with sparkles yesssss.
She did, however, continue to flush a bit at the praise, biting back the urge to say "oh it was nothing, just a little swing and some muddy land and some luck, no big deal, totes". Nope she wanted to bask a bit. emotion_kirakira More sparkles came as a result.
"I guess that's what I don't mind about this place: there's no real thing as impossible~" It had already been like Hunger Games and Harry Potter mixed with some anime, so Stormy was quite happy to accommodate for more weirdness. Well, as long as they didn't involve horrible sieges and stuff like that. Thane snarled something about needing to show off their power, but Madeline had just taken a tumble . . . No, she'd feel bad if she swung at her again so soon afterwards, spar or not. But her partner's ranting was beginning to get a bit grating on her concentration.
After giving a few golf claps and a small cheer for the performance, she gripped the greatsword once more. "Um, since we're sparring and all, can I try this charge attack thing real quick, Mads? I-I know you got hit kinda hard back there - sorry, by the way - but he's really getting ranty in my head and it's starting to get distracting, and I sorta need the practice or I'll just hurt myself a lot and . . ."
Look at her, getting all embarrassed again and asking for permission in the middle of battle.
