Eldur

. . . . . . .

Vatra's capitol, and second largest city. The city located beneath an inactive volcano, you can only enter the city when escorted by a Fire Elemental. The volcano is said to be where the first Fire Elemental was born.

Eldur is one of the most heavily guarded cities in all Vatra, all of the secret records on new weapons and technology are stored here. Most importantly it is home to the Vatra royals.

Because the city is located underground, the city is divided into three levels. The Upper Level, which is closes to the surface, the Middle District, which is the largest and most populated level, and the Lower Catacombs, which is thousands of feet below the surface.

The main castle resides in Upper Level of the city and easily recognized my its large domed ceilings. Here, the King and Queen live with their children. This heavily guarded castle is where all records are kept. In the Middle District, there are other domed building that other high ranking royals live and a small plaza where residents can buy food and supplies. The darkest part of Eldur is the Lower Catacombs. The only way to access this level is through a single, narrow tunnel. This level is by far the most dangerous because the entire level is labyrinth of prison cells and graves. Criminals serve their sentence in the intense heat of their prison cells.

Violet walked furiously through the castle corridors. 'No questions about it, I'm going to find her, and kill her. A few minutes ago she was on her way with Iris to an important meeting with the girl's parents, and the next, she was gone. No where to be found. "I swear, I'm going to glue a bell to her. That or nail her feet to the floor.' This wasn't the first time Iris had disappeared without warning. She wasn't particularly fond of her family and hated being trapped in a room with them discussing plans for the nation that she didn't really have any say over. Violet understood her situation but regardless, she was supposed to be there, and it was her job to make sure of that. The problem now was the fact that Iris was probably long gone, hiding somewhere no one would find her, or at least not for quite awhile. Violet knew where all her hiding places were, but the girl made sure to keep more than a dozen all across the castle grounds so it would take at least an hour or more to check all of them, not to mention that she would move when she figured she was about to be found. 'All I can really do now is go to the meeting and explain to the King and Queen that she's feeling ill and won't be able to make it.' She sighed and stopped in her tracks knowing her search was futile. 'Sometimes I wonder what she would do without me. Well for starters she would probably go through guards like a child with candy.' She let a small chuckle slip as she imagined anyone else trying to put up with the girl and made her way back towards the meeting room.

◇ Sora Winiar ◇

Sora walked down the steps of his dad's large house. It was a small castle, but it was larger then the peasant houses. He offered some protection for them, but he did nothing overall. He didn't want to become his own village, as he can get free protection from the city. The peasants either didn't try to figure it out, or they didn't see the need to move their home and farmland. He headed into the main part of the city, hands in his pockets. He'd finished his magic training for the day, so he was free for the rest of it. He just didn't have anything to do. Hoping to find something new to wear, he simply people-watched, searching for a new outfit that caught his eyes. He felt the urge to ask someone to teach him how to train a hawk. He wanted to send letters to his mom, but he felt that would never happen. Regardless, his days would go on. Sora lifted water up from the water in someone's cup, playing with it by leading it with his finger. He needed to find something to do. Perhaps someone needed to learn some magic. He would kill to teach again.

Iris laughed as she walked down the Middle District. Right now her parents would be holding their monthly meeting to go over everything that is going on in Vatra with some of the other royals. In other words, boring~! She much rather go out and explore the city some more. She gave Violet and the guards the slip awhile ago. She knew that castle like the back of her hand. She knew how the guards worked, and how to avoid them, making escaping from the Upper Level easy. She knew Violet would come up with some excuse and then hunt her down later. So she figured that she would have some fun now, then deal with Violet's wrath later. So for now she kept her hood up and tried to keep to the shadows to avoid the passing guards.

Sora watched all the guards pass through the city. One was trying to impress a young lady, but to no avail. 'Good job, lady,' he thought. Most guards were complete losers, and they hardly did anything to start with. To be honest, nobles would rather a peasant serve them. At least, he'd rather. Spying someone in a hood, he felt a tinge of excitement. Most people ignored the person, not even noticing him/her. Watching the way the hooded figure watched, he assumed it was a female. Well, she had quite some skill, being invisible to everyone else. He simply smiled, sending a splash of water he was moving in her direction.

Violet took a deep breath in as she walked past the guards and creaked the door open to the meeting room. Both the King and Queen looked up expectantly as she entered the room and cleared her throat. "The princess is feeling quite ill this evening and won't be able to make it. She sends her regrets." That sounded false even to herself. The King looked almost worried as he nodded and wished her to feel better soon, but the Queen... she looked almost triumphant. Violet did everything in her power to keep herself from lunging across the room and slitting the woman's throat. It wouldn't be very logical at all, knowing with that action she would jeopardize everything. Instead she reduced the urge to a small twitch in her fingers and quickly bowed before practically running out of the room and closing the door behind her. She suddenly let out the breath she didn't even realize she'd been holding and returned her focus to her hunt. 'Now... where did you run off to this time...' She kept her pace steady until she rounded the corner and switched into a full out sprint. 'Probably outside of the castle, since she wouldn't want to be found by any of the guards or servants.' She needed to get her cloak and get out of the castle if she was to ever catch up with her. After a brief stop in her room, she snuck down the servants halls and out of the castle.

Iris smirked every time a guard passed her. She found it hilarious how dimwitted they could be. Here she was, the Princess of Vatra, a woman whom they all swore to protect, and they can't even identify her in a crowd. They probably hadn't even noticed that she was missing. Well, except for Violet. Vi always seemed to know when Iris was going to cause some trouble before Iris could even start the trouble. A movement out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. She stood and watched as a small blob water as it made its way over to her. Unimpressed, Iris extended her hand and lightly touched the water with her index finger. She felt the cool touch of the water for a brief instant, then a second later, the blob started to morph as it began to boil. Iris looked past the now evaporating water right into the blue eyes of a man across the street. She knew that it was he who controlled the water, because he was the only one paying any attention to her. Calmly she walked across the street, easily weaving through people to avoid bumping into them and causing unnecessary attention to herself. By the time she had crossed the street, the blob of water was now no more then steam in the air, all evidence of its existence was gone. Now standing next to the man, she linked arms with him and smiled, "Is there any special reason you called upon my attention?" She asked quietly, her gaze following the guards that walked along the street.

Sora watched her send the water to steam. She was obviously a fire user. She weaved her way through the crowd and managed to to get to him. He simply smiled at her. "Well, I just had to ask why you want to be hidden," He studied her face a little before realizing she was the princess. It was to late to hide his surprise, but he tried to act casual and hope she wouldn't be offended.

Iris turned to look at the man to see a look of surprise cross his face. 'And now my cover is blown~' she thought to herself. She smiled, "As a matter of fact, I am being hunted right now. So the longer I stay hidden, means the longer I stay alive." She turned her attention back to the swarm of people on the street, she was not looking at anyone in particular. After all she would always be able to spot the Huntress that was after her. "Now, Mr. Water Elemental, what is your name? And judging from that look on your face, I doubt I need to introduce myself." Overall, she found this encounter quite amusing, much better than sitting in a meeting for hours where she only heard things that she already knew. She knew that the crops were good this season, the woman in the market told her every time she saw her. She knew about the small peasant riot a few months back, she was there. She heard their cries, and how they had felt used and mistreated, mostly by her own guards. She just severely dealt with one guard, whom was abusing his power. She chuckled softly at the memory of the man begging for her mercy in a dark ally as pants were burning. That man resigned from his position the next morning. She found it ridiculous that her father never left the castle, and relied on others to tell him what was going on in his country when he could go see it for himself.

Sora looked surprised yet again as she mentioned being hunted. He knew that the princess could take of herself, but if she was being hunted down, she needed to be in the castle. Unless it was someone in the castle hunting her down. He blushed with embarrassment as she mentioned his surprise. He really needed to work on hiding his surprise, though he was usually cold to others and was avoided. "The name is Sora." He almost asked how she realized he was a water elemental before realizing he'd thrown a bit of water at her. "Do you need help hiding? Er.." Immediately after saying it aloud, he realized that he'd hardly spotted her. But just maybe she'd like to have some fun with him and fool the huntress. He did love pulling pranks and playing tricks. Of course, he could freeze water a little and scare others, but he doubted a hunter of this skill level would be bothered. Few people seemed to notice her existence anyways. Not many people acknowledged him either. Perhaps they weren't that different after all.

Violet wove in and out of the different streets of the Middle district glancing around as she did so. Her light brown cloak was tied around her shoulders with the hood obscuring her face. She knew from long ago that it would be no use to ask people if they had seen her, because they would all draw a blank and then alert the guards, which would trigger widespread panic that would reach the castle in a moment. Her first time chasing Iris, she made that mistake and quickly learned it was not the best course of action. After weaving in and out of shops and ally ways for quite sometime, she finally spotted her. Cuddling up with man she'd never seen before. 'There's a first time for everything I suppose.' She knew by now that if she'd spotted Iris, then Iris had done the same. She sighed and crossed the street, avoiding passerby's as she went and crept up next to the two. "So is this how you'd rather be spending your time?" She decided against revealing too many details in case the young man hadn't yet figured it out. Though Iris didn't really care for being discrete unless it was necessary, so he probably knew enough by now. "Your father wishes you well. He hopes you make a speedy recovery from your most recent illness. You've really turned into a sickly child, haven't you?"

Iris tightened her grip on Sora's arm, and turned towards him. "Sora Winiar?" she asked, "I have heard about you. Your servants speak well of you. I have ran into them a few times in the market." She said with a smile, "And I have seen your father a few times. He will come to the castle every now and then and try to kiss up to my father." She let out a small sigh, "Quite sad really." She smiled when Sora offered to help her hide. "Oh I don't need any help hiding dearest," she said with a small laugh, as she noticed a hooded figure expertly weave her way through the street. "Though it is too late, I've just been caught~" she said a moment before Violet caught up to her. "Oh hello Violet, dear," she said as she turned to face her knight. "Now, Vi, there is something I have been meaning to tell you for a long time now..." she started, her face completely serious, "You see, I have met someone. He is quite the gentleman, and he makes me feel like a real woman." She let out a sigh, "So I guess you are right Violet, I have become quite sickly, and I am afraid that I will never recover, because my lover and I are planning to go run away and elope~!" She looked at Violet with large pleading eyes, "Please send my regards to my father. And tell my step mother she is a real wench."

◇ Sora Winiar ◇

Sora felt a warm feeling he couldn't identify as Iris mentioned that his servants had spoken well of himself. And he narrowly avoided a disappointed chuckle as she mentioned seeing his dad kiss up to her's. Sora noticed someone eyeing them just as Iris said she was caught. As their conversation went on, Sora felt a source of entertainment growing. However, he almost fell backwards when she mentioned he made her feel like a real woman. 'I know where this is going,' he thought. Just as he'd predicted, Iris said they were going to go off and elope. He did want a reason to run from his father, and maybe find his mother, but he had a feeling this girl- Violet?- was going to stop them. He didn't have anything to say, waiting for the huntress to do something. Besides, she looked a little threatening. Of course, with Iris' fire and Sora's water, there'd be little chance of outdoing them. But, Iris was the princess. And he hated the laws. So he'd go along with it. He breathed in and tried to sound as confident as possible. "That's right," he said, but sounded slightly shaky like he was just going along with it. He mentally slapped himself. He needed to get a hold on his emotions, but he wasn't too social since most avoided his usually cold personality.

Violet eyed the two of them doubtfully. 'This poor man has no idea what he's getting himself into.' She didn't even want to know what he did to attract her attention, but now he was caught in her cross hairs. "Well if that's the case, we'll have to send a note, because I'm going with you." After all, her loyalty didn't lie with the crown, but with Iris, and there was no way she was going to run off and leave her behind to deal with the mess alone. Though she also knew that Iris was acting out for her own entertainment, and that if someone didn't put the brakes on the operation it was going to end with someone getting seriously injured. "Though I must remind you that if you go now, and revoke your claim to the crown, your stepmother would have first claim should anything happen to your father." Violet was the professor of reality checks. She wasn't one for running blindly into a situation and hoping for the best. Also Violet knew that Iris' one weakness was her stepmother. She would never in a million years let her get her hands on the crown knowing the suffering she would most certainly inflict on the people of Vatra.

Iris froze at the mention of her step mother taking the crown. She shot a glare at Violet and mouthed the words 'Damn you.' She then turned back to Sora, her once playful smile, now replaced with a forced one. "I am quite sorry dearest, but as Violet has brought to my attention, there is some unfinished business that needs to be taken care of." She stood on her toes and placed a feather-light kiss on Sora's cheek, "If you need anything, you know where to find me." She said with a nod in the direction of the main castle. She released Sora's arm and started walking back down the street, "Now, come along Violet. You win this game of catch the Princess, now lets go dethrone a Queen."
