Another day in the continuation of the female's search. Of course, she was never discouraged and so always looked on with bright and faithful eyes. She would find her lost mate, sooner or later. She just... wondered why on earth she had come so far to look for him. Surely Kapu would have wandered back towards their homeland if he was still alive and about?

Trying not to worry herself too much, the young wolf eventually wound up at a half-frozen river. There was snow all about and some random green grasses popping up through the white substance. It made her smile and take in a deep, happy breath. Yep, she was a wolf of the snow, and so just the sight of it made her swell up with pride and happiness.

Grinning slightly to herself, Aaka looked down at her reflection. She looked a tad older than before, but that was probably due to the fact that she had traveled for a while year through storms and raging blizzards just to get here.

Trying not to think of the hardships and heartaches, she closed her eyes and lowered her head to lap up at the cool water that ran slightly over the thin ice that covered slivers and spots of the river. Once she had satisfied her growing thirst, the she-wolf lifted her head to peer around. She wondered if anyone was about...

Still pondering a bit, Aaka sank down to her belly, resting comfortably in the snow.

If Aaka had known the wolf before and had been with him while he stumbled forward a few feet then fell back asleep again, she probably would have laughed. Not in a cruel way of course, she was never cruel, but rather one that showed how amused she was.

Violet orbs scanned the landscape around her as she lay down on her belly. Her nose twitched every now and then to take in all of the new scents. This place didn't seem to teem over with wolves, but there seemed to be an abundance of other creatures, smaller predators and lots of prey. Yet because it was the snowy season, she figured they were to be even more abundant come spring. How lovely!

As she scanned the place around her, the female Mau spotted something very peculiar. It was a creature that didn't look all too different from her, both species- and pelt-wise. Curious, she slowly rose up to her paws to stand on her toes as she always did.

"Hello?" she called out, hoping she didn't startle the other too much with her sudden appearance, as it didn't seem like Bastet had really noticed her yet.

Aaka watched the other warily. He seemed almost unnatural, she would think, what with the way he moved about and stretched like he was in no absolute hurry. She was new and she had never met him before, she was sure. So why wasn't he afraid that she might pose a threat? Usually others were on guard rather than wriggling about on the dirt as if it was more interesting.

Tilting her head as she saw an eye peep open and scan the area, she wondered whether he was all right in the head or not. His behavior was just plain weird, and it kinda creeped her out.

When he tried to speak, it didn't much help his image in her brain. The female thought that his mind might not have been... as developed as some others. Did he have some sort of speaking problem? Hm, she guessed not, for a moment later he spoke out normally, though he did seem a bit shocked to have seen her. But why?

Smiling and trying to forget her worries, the former-beta rose slowly to her paws as she tried not to come off as threatening. Though how could she, what with her mothering nature and such.

"Greetings," she replied brightly, settling back down again on her haunches, though this time she was facing Bastet and thinking that he wasn't quite so weird as he had first come off as. Perhaps he had just been amazed at seeing another wolf in the area... they seemed a little sparse here.

"I hope I am not intruding?" Aaka always asked that, whether the other seemed aggressive or not. She just had to make sure she wasn't trespassing or anything...

Aaka couldn't help but put up a startled expression as the other seemed to guess her position directly on the dot. Was it her posture? Was she sitting like a beta again? Darn... she really needed to work on that. One of these days that old habit would get her into a lot of new trouble.

Still slightly stunned, the femme blinked then shook her head to clear it of most of her thoughts. "Oh.. well.. uhm, that's good then," she stammered out, feeling like a total idiot at the moment. "Yes, good." This last was more to herself than to him, really. "And, heh, you've guessed right. I'm fairly new here... only arrived just a few days ago."

Oblivious to the thoughts going through the other's head about how she looked just like his mother, she shifted slightly and smiled warmly at him.

"Hm, I'm not sure I'm quite so lost as I don't have a destination," she blurted, hoping she didn't confuse the other too much. Aaka was a bit disoriented without her mate, Kapu, and being in a new land with strange scents, sights, and wolves just didn't help much.

"Do you know your way around here...? I'm, uh, looking for somebody. Somebody terribly important to me." Okay, yeah, she was just an open book. No need for worrying, she always thought. It usually only created problems.

Aaka blinked once more at the other. He seemed so strange, like he knew everything. It was so unearthly that she shivered slightly where she sat, gray fur quivering in what she hoped looked like coldness from the chilling wind.

"What do you mean?" she asked, leaving her face to look quite odd as his because she had attempted to quirk a brow that she did not have. When he mentioned the whole beta part, she merely looked down at her ground. She missed her pack dearly, but she had grown worried for her loving mate after he had gone missing for over a year. It was just weird that he had disappeared for so long.

"I left my old pack willingly. When my mate disappeared, I left my daughter in charge of the pack and went off looking for him," she stated simply, having no problem with revealing her history. It wasn't one she was ashamed of or anything, and so she saw no reason to hide it from others.

His words only encouraged her and enlightened her spirits. So Bastet knew these lands fairly well. That was good. If he knew it as well as he was boasting then perhaps he would be able to help her.

"The name's Aaka. It's a pleasure to meet you, Bastet," she said kindly as she watched him roll into a more comfortable position. If only she had that kind of easy life to sit back and just watch everything around her...

"Uhm... sorry if I'm prodding you too much or anything but... do you happen to know of a black wolf, male, about my age, with a deep scar on his right shoulder?" Kapu.

Aaka sat regally, though she tried not to do so. Her former rank left her proud yet not to the arrogant point, and if she didn't watch herself someone might mistake that for rebellion or resistance. Thinking of this made her relax her posture quite a bit, and even lower her head slightly.

Unaware of the thoughts going on in the other's mind, she simply waited for him to respond. He was a Thinker, one who seemed to always have something going on up in the head. Yet that was good... most of the time. Hopefully he wouldn't stand there and think if something large ever charged him, like a bear. No... best not think of those kinds of situations.

When he finally spoke, her pointed ears perked slightly to catch his words; Bastet talked rather softly at times.

"Oh, well thank you," she smiled, taking the compliment rather well she thought. Nodding she shifted around, slightly uncomfortable. This ground was just not one she'd like to sit on for a long time, so she rose to her paws and simply stood, still watching him.

Then she listened again. A pack around this area? She would have to learn of their whereabouts, not because her mate might be there, but because she didn't want to go trespassing obliviously then get injured or killed. It would be horrible to end her journey that way.

"No, I don't think he'd join another pack. He was well situated in our other one, so I'd puzzle me to think he'd leave looking for a new one."

No... there was no reason for Kapu to have left, really. He was perfectly happy... wasn't he?

Aaka, having beared several large litters of puppies with her mate, had transformed from a fierce and dangerous wolf to one who was more mellow and calm. The air about her showed a prideful wolf within, yet one that was soft enough and had enough patience to deal with puppies and almost any situation that could be thrown at her. With not a single violent bone in her body--unless her loved ones were being threatened or attacked--the female seemed like the perfect wolf to get along with.

Still watching the other, she continued to build a mental image of him. There were no outstanding scents on him besides his own, so she figured that he did not live within a pack or even with a simple companion. How odd. She had always thought wolves to be pack creatures, not ones who would choose a lone way of life, as she figured this one had; there were no scars or scrapes to show that he had been fighting within a pack or had been forced out of one.

Shaking her head in response to Bastet's question, she shifted around once more. This place made her feel uncomfortable for some reason. Perhaps it was the disappearance of snow... one thing that she definitely wasn't used to.

"No, he had been the leader of our pack. One day he randomly disappeared, puzzling the rest of us. We haven't seen him since." A sad story, one could say, but one that had become all too familiar for Aaka.

Thinking again that she had gone the wrong way, she sighed and shook her head. There was really no reason for her mate to have traveled this far south and away from his strong pack, and so she pondered over why she had come this far when it was almost impossible that Kapu had come the same way.
