It was the day before Damian was to leave for the Celestial Plane and continue his training as an Apprentice. Kavanna was scurrying around getting things ready, and constantly reminding him 'not to show his wings'. He was well aware of the circumstances he found himself under.

Kavanna was nervous for him leaving, for she hadn't been away from him for more than a few nights here or there. This was a long time coming, but she wasn't prepared for his absence whatsoever. She was already beginning to tear up just thinking about her son leaving and growing up in her childhood home. Luckily, he would have his three uncles over there with him in case of emergencies, and she could always take a visit now and again to see him. Plus, he had made plans to come visit all the time, or at least Kavanna was hoping for it.

Damian came down the stairs and saw his mom frantically searching for some extra clothes of his to pack. "Mom, what are you doing?" he asked curiously.

"Just making sure you've got everything packed for your big day tomorrow!" she said, obviously holding back what tears she could.

"I'll be fine, I have a few bags packed already. I'll be fine. On top of that, I'll be back to visit very soon." he said, rolling his eyes at his mother's total insecurities.

The two were close and being away from her was definitely going to be hard, but Damian knew it was what had to be done, and being away from his frantic mother would give him a chance to spread his "non-existent" wings a bit and be on his own.

Kavanna calmed herself down a bit and finally realized she was being a bit over-the-top and quite paranoid about the whole situation. She couldn't help it, she knew how much she loved being away from home when she was his age, so it was natural for him to want his space a bit.

To calm herself, Kavanna left the house and decided to pick some flowers and herbs from the little backyard garden that her mother-in-law planted and took care of. Meanwhile, Damian stayed inside and sat down in the living area and read a book about the dragons. He couldn't wait to go kill a dragon on his own. He'd have his own magic and everything! It was so exciting to him. He would come back a few days from now to go dragon hunting for Ysali!

Maslin felt more than a little guilty as he reached out to knock on the door of the house in front of him. He had always meant to come here and keep his promise to visit. Time had simply slipped away from him, with Lazuli's hatching, endless dragon hunts, the learning of metal smithing, the camp moving locations and so on. It had always felt like there would be time later to get to get to it and yet later had never come. Maslin could only hope that he'd be forgiven for taking ages for this to happen.

Standing at the young man's side was Lazuli who hummed softly and shifted from foot to foot impatiently. The Peisio drakein was eager to meet this person that Maslin remembered fondly. Maslin seemed to like so few people which was sad but Lazuli did his best to make sure his bonded never felt lonely. He didn't care what feral Drakein said, their connection was no shame or abomination but something special that made the Keindred feel whole and happy.

When a knock came at the door, Damian shot up. They didn't get visitors all that often and so it was a surprise to him. He made his way to the door and opened it, creaking as it did.

"Hello." the boy said looking up at the tall, bulky individual. Then eyes darting down to the little dragon at his side. It had been so long since their last meeting Damian hadn't really remembered much of Maslin. Especially with the color changes that had occurred.

Damian was quite shocked to see a dragon sitting beside the boy. "I-is that...a...dragon!?" he cried, backing away from the opened door. He had never witnessed a Drakein, neither did he know of them at all. With that, he ran out into the backyard quickly. "MOTHER!!!" he called, frantically running through the kitchen and out of the house.

Kavanna came running in with Damian jogging behind her. A shocked look on her face until she realized who it was. "M-Maslin? Is that you!? And Lazuli!" she said, shocked that the boy had grown into a very upright young man. She hadn't seen them since the Drakein notice leaked out a while back.

"Maslin!?!" the boys voice shrieked upon remembering the name. This man looked so much different than what the Maslin he had in mind looked like, but he could definitely see the resemblance now. Though obviously, even Damian knew that people changed, even he had changed. He had gotten his blue eyes, his blue streaks, his Scepter. Things were looking up for him.

Maslin just seemed so different to him. A very good different. He seemed almost...attractive. Damian threw those thoughts into the back of his head as the two waited for Maslin's response.

Maslin swore internally when a much older and somewhat changed Damian answered the door only to freak out at the sight of Lazuli and run away. He had been with the Drakein for so long now that he was used to his presence. That and much of Magesc seemed to know about Drakein whether they wished too or not. It had not occurred to him that Damian might mistake his partner for a dragon.

Lazuli was shocked and saddened by the boy's fear of him. He was the nicest Drakein he knew. He might only know mean nasty lying ferals but that mattered little to the keindred. Oh but he had been called a dragon, hmm there weren't really any good dragons so maybe it was okay for the boy to be afraid of his mistake. Still, he could feel the disappointment rolling off Maslin and that was not good.

Before either male could do more than turn their heads to look at each other Damian was back with Kavanna in tow.

Maslin cleared his throat awkwardly and nodded. " I'm sorry I meant to visit sooner and I forgot that you didn't know Lazuli and .." he trailed off. This was not exactly how he'd planned this going. Feeling a little out of place and plenty sheepish he reached up to run a hand through his orange and blue tipped bangs while offering an awkward smile. Life was so much easier when you made other people come to you and things like this were why Maslin preferred to engage people on his own terms.

" I'm nice" Lazuli stated firmly, eyes fixed on Damian. he needed the boy to accept him so Maslin would feel better. Words were not his strong suit, he still struggled to speak at times but this he could get across.

"MASLIN!" Damian cried. It had been so long but he didn't even care. He ran over, and before Maslin could do anything, gave the older boy a hug. He then turned his attention to the Drakein. "I've never seen a dragon friend before. Are...are you his pet?" the boy asked curiously.

"Hehe, Dom, that's a Drakein...a tamed dragon. Don't worry, as he said, he's nice, right?" she said with a soft smile. She folded her wings to the center of her back as to keep from knocking things over.

She gestured to allow the guests inside. "My husband is out dragon hunting today and won't be back until tomorrow. How about you stay for dinner? We'd love to have you. We'll be starting on that in a bit. You and Dom can go play and reconnect outside if you'd like, or you can all sit in the kitchen and keep us company as we cook. What do you think? Naomi will probably be coming in from the store after a bit." the Dovaa stated.

"Oh yes, please won't you stay!? I can show you what I've learned!" the little Apprentice said happily.

A slight chuckle emitted from the mother's mouth as she walked passed the boys and over towards the sink to start washing her hands.

Maslin wasn't certain at first if he should have objected more to the surprise hug or the implication that Lazuli was in some way tame. Not that his bonded acted the same as his feral kin but tame implied a sort of docility and breaking of spirit. He'd never been anything less th-

Lazuli interrupted his bonded's train of thought with waves of reassurance and an image of them standing triumphant over a decaying dragon corpse. Maslin shouldn't worry, he was filled with spirit and happy to be with the large man. Whatever his feral kin had that he didn't was of no concern to Lazuli because he didn't feel like he lacked anything.

Also ferals didn't get to go in houses and here he was stepping carefully inside one, keeping his wings pinned to his body and tail low to the ground to avoid knocking things over. Houses weren't built for his kind and lacked the wide open spaces of the tents back at camp. Still they were certainly interesting looking,and filled with strange things.

Calmed a little and surprised at the truly warm reception he'd been given Maslin smiled and nodded. "Staying for dinner isn't a problem," he replied as he too came inside. Feeling a bit more comfortable as well as slightly warmer inside the house the hybrid man released his wings from their markings. Over the years it had become apparent that his larger than average size would not allow him to fly with their help like normal orderites. Still, they required regular exposure and care to maintain good health even if they were purely ornamental at this point. Though he could not fully extend them right now, this was actually a decent time to have them out.

"Just what have you learned?" Maslin asked Damian warily. He was bigger and older than the other hybrid but it was entirely possible that Damian had had far better training, particularly regarding dovaa skills. Maslin wasn't entirely positive he wanted to see what the other male knew if it was going to be used on him.

"Magic?" Lazuli chirped excitedly. " We know magic." Unlike his bonded Lazuli was all for big flashy displays of power. As long as no one got badly hurt it was all good in the keindred's mind.

"YAY!" the young Apprentice shrieked as he jumped and clapped, patting his friend on the back. He was so much bigger than little Damian. A lot older and probably much wiser as well. Damian instantly had that thought that he could learn something from Maslin. Maybe even learn a thing or two from Lazuli.

When asked about what he had learned, Damian expressed his excitement through words, his voice cracking a bit, "Lots of magic! Come outside and I'll show you! We'll be outside, mom! C'mon, lets go!" Opening the door and walking out towards the ocean in the distance. He looked back at Maslin as he walked. Something about him was very...different...he was a man now, a young man, but a man nevertheless. Damian seemed to look up to him already, after only knowing and speaking to him a total of probably ten minutes their entire lives. That first day he saw Maslin, he drew that picture of the two of them together, it was amazing and Maslin was his first friend. He knew that and felt it. When he recognized him, he was overcome with different feelings he hadn't known existed. He wanted nothing more than to impress Maslin with all the knowledge he had accrued over the course of his short life thus far.

Meanwhile, Kavanna just stood by the sink, washing some of the pots and pans needed to create the dinner for the night. She placed an apron delicately over her sun dress and then smiled as she looked outside, only to see Damian making his way towards the water's edge. A sigh of relief escaped her lips knowing that he was growing up to be such a kind and loving boy. He needed more friends, and Maslin would be good for him, she knew that from the start.

Unable to resist Damian's enthusiasm Maslin followed the younger male back outside of the house. He supposed that even if his fellow hybrid planned to use magic against him he had always had fairly good magical defenses. As they walked towards the water's edge he supposed this could also just be a display of control. Maslin himself lacked a good deal of finesse with his magic, it was an area he needed to improve upon in the future. Regardless of what Damian showed he assumed it would be interesting.

"I am sorry I didn't visit before," he noted again. "It seems both of us did a lot of changing since we last saw each other." So much time had passed and yet he was still accepted and Damian seemed just as innocent and cheerful as before. Whatever he had experienced over the years had not drained away his optimism it seemed. Damian might have changed physically and have grown into his own magically but he was still easy to relate to so far.

While Maslin had gained a few more friends over the years he found that he responded to each of them differently. Kadryn was trustworthy and dependable, she was an educational sparring partner and not bad for conversation. Eanah was a bit prickly but easy to understand and around Damian, Maslin had an inexplicable sense of calm.

Lazuli followed slowly after the hybrids, he regretted having to leave Kavanna alone and not getting to spend more time in the house but magic was one of the most exciting things to him.

"It's alright, I don't mind. I'm just glad to see you now! And yes, so many changes. You're all grown up, and a lot of you turned blue, haha. So, I assume you went the Peisio route as well?" the young boy chirped, still continuing the walk to the ocean.

Finally, he arrived at the ocean's edge. He closed his eyes a moment. He could feel the water flowing around in his mind. Then, with a couple flicks of his wrist, a whip of water flew out from the ocean and wrapped around Damian elegantly.

He turned to Maslin and smiled. "See, I can control water and everything." he said, throwing both hands up, causing the whip of water to rise above his head and stay afloat. Curling his hand and extending only his first and second finger, he pointed up and flicked it outward, causing the water above him to quickly follow suit and dip back into the ocean exquisitely.

"I can do that and use it to attack too, but I don't like to fight all too much. My uncle Karst even taught me how to heal using water as well. It's really fun. My Gran is a healer and it's nice to be able to follow in her footsteps." he said with a grin, eyes closing and head tilting to the side a bit.

Damian definitely had a more elegant flair to magic than he did, Maslin noted. He really would have to to put more effort into at least refining his skills enough to have a larger degree of control. He'd have to find time somewhere in his schedule to work in a little more magic practice, perhaps after he finished his most recent commission. "That was very good," the compliment was offered freely and with no traces of jealousy.

"Peisio seems to suit you well, both in temperament and how fast you picked up the magic." It was nice to know that Damian was not keen on fighting, that meant a lesser chance of someday receiving the news that he'd been killed in the war. Maslin would prefer his friends live out reasonably long lifespans, both for their sakes and because he was bad at grieving. "When I chose my clan Peisio seemed to be the only one I could accept, everything else felt wrong."

"Peisio is best." Lazuli pointed out, the blue hided drakein had no qualms about declaring his bias towards his own clan. Everyone else was ok but really He was a Peisio and so was Maslin and now Damian who seemed quite nice and strong. Plus the only Peiso dragon he had ever encountered up close had not been some roaring monster bent on eating his bonded. Clearly the best types of everything chose or were born into Peisio.

Maslin could only laugh softly at Lazuli's claims, not keen on getting into that sort of argument. Still, he had no doubt that between the three of them there was enough magical strength to do anything they really wanted with the water before them.

Damian smiled and laughed. "Thanks! I appreciate that. It took me a while to learn, but I've got it down for the most part now." he said, bowing his head at the compliment.

He walked over to the others and, he too, had no problem telling others that he thought his clan was strongest. "Yeah, I never knew anything but Peisio. I mean, all of my family members are from different clans. I just really noticed how much I had in common with my Uncle Karst. So, I've never wanted to be anything but being a water manipulator." he finished, wiping his hands on his pants and walking over to the other two.

"Hey, you're big and strong; why not show me what you've learned through your travels? Maybe we can swap spells or something?" the boy said, blushing a bit at the inquiry.
PostPosted: Thu Feb 28, 2013 5:54 pm

Maslin highly doubted he knew any magic that Damian didn't. Most of his family were not mages and none of them were dovaa. What he'd learned had been from the odd book and a great deal of trial and error. Well and also a little from Ba'shiri before she'd left for the celestial plane. The young man would do his best though to not disappoint his younger friend.

"Ahh well this isn't so much about being big and strong but I have found this combinations of spells useful." Maslin did have one little creative trick trick up his sleeve although it was mostly employed as his get away from dragons he didn't care to fight skill.

The hyrbid mage stretched his wings out and let them catch the sun's rays, for a second he seemed to merely be basking in the light before a soft glow began to emanate from his skin. The shine became brighter and even his hair, horns and feathers seemed to glimmer. Sweeping his wings suddenly forward Maslin created a blindingly bright flash of light and disappeared before the spell could fade.

Lazuli who had seen the trick before, waited for the brightness to dim and then stared up in the sky at the small pale ball of light that was now Maslin. He had never understood how even magic could turn a man as large as his bonded into something the size of a person's fist.

Damian gawked at the sight of his friend bursting into a ball of light. That was just far too weird for him to comprehend. "Y-you're a ball of light!?" he said. He hadn't grasped the concept of how to do that at all. But he was a mage as was Maslin. He wondered if that was a possibility.

"How did you do that!? Teach me! Teach me!" Damian cried, wanting to learn everything he could from this friend of his. Obviously it may take some extra effort, but he did want to learn.

The ball of light was bright, seemingly a little bigger than it probably was, but nevertheless, he too wondered how this larger man became the size of about a fist. Damian was definitely amazed at this trick. All he wanted to do now was learn it himself.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 25, 2013 10:08 am

Slowly but surely Maslin returned to his natural form looking a bit exhausted as he did so, it took a good deal of concentration and magical output on his behalf to pull that trick off. He smiled down at Damian and how eager the younger male was to learn the one thing it seemed he knew the other did not. " It's a bit difficult to pull off at first and it's really only useful for escaping tricky situations". The ball of light form was not useful in battle and still susceptible to magical damage in his experience.

Damian looked up at the man who seemed tired. Did it really take that much power to do something like that? "So, I can't just run around like a ball of light? How do you do it?" the young Hybrid asked.

As soon as it was said, a call could be heard from the front door. "Hey Damian, Maslin, dinner is ready!" Kav called, waving the two Hybrids inside.

Damian scowled. "Maybe after dinner you can show me!" he said, crossing his arms and slowly making his way towards the cottage.

~~~
Once inside, the table was set and dinner was ready. Four plates sat upon the table. Kavanna stood in her sun dress smiling, holding the tops of the chairs. "Well boys, dig in. Naomi isn't feeling well, so I'll just bring her some food up to her room." she said, grabbing the pre-made plate and taking it out of the kitchen completely.
Damian grabbed the two plates, holding one out for Maslin. "What do Drakein eat? Because he can have some too if he wants. You're nice, Lazuli." the boy said with a smile on his face.
