Spring continued to battle against the last vestiges of winter in Serenia. Snow still covered some areas of the land and in general it was not yet warm enough during the days to switch to lighter clothing. Some areas had escaped winter's grasp however and that was where Maslin currently found himself. Parked on the edge of a dock that extended out into a small lake with a fishing rod in hand. Maslin did not fish regularly but every once in a while he enjoyed spending a day relaxing and seeing if he could outwit or outlast the fish who seemed reluctant to bite. Like today he preferred to fish from a dock, boats and Maslin had never gotten along and Lazuli had a habit of rocking them violently when he got excited.
Lazuli had come along today, the peisio drakein currently lay stretched out beside Maslin staring intently into the water as if willing the fish swimming below the lake's surface to jump out and come to him. The first time Maslin had taken Lazuli fishing the keindred had actually nearly used his water based basic to make such a thing happen, which kind of defeated the purpose of fishing. These days Lazuli just watched, and ate whatever Maslin caught though he came along less for the meal and more to keep the man company.
The sun continued to arc higher into the sky and as time passed the pair of Peisio chatted, unconcerned with the lack of fish eager to take the bait.

Ignotus
The sun was shining rather brightly for midday in Serenia, especially since it had just been a few days ago that winter had finally ended. Ignotus squinted against the light, his sensitive Oblivionite eyes not at all happy with so much sun, and could only see a faint haze that was the pathway. Slowly concentrating, the hybrid brought forth his ebony bat-like wings from the markings found at his back and used the large appendages to cast a bigger shadow to help his vision.
He found himself on a rather idyllic looking stretch of land bordering the shores of Lake Amafel. There were only a few people dotted here and there, most of them fishing. Such a blasé pastime, Ignotus couldn’t help but think to himself. Not that he’d be interested in something so pedestrian.
Straightening his posture and still keeping one wing over his head, the hybrid adjusted the bags of supplies in his hands and started making his way down one side of the lake. Ignotus had parked his caravan just a bit out of the immediate environs of the town as being a seller for Dragon Souls was still not welcome in the more “proper” towns and he’d thought to avoid any potential bad feelings.
He was suddenly brought short to see a rather odd sight before him. Hybrids like him were rare. Rarer even for one who seemed to have almost no care in the world. Almost every single hybrid he knew had this harrowed look on their faces from the harsh treatment from the world around them. Ignotus had been few of the lucky ones to have escaped his earlier unpleasant living conditions.
The fair haired hybrid cocked his head to the side, and eyed the rather large man fishing with his faithful Drakein, and tried to decide if he would approach the other. After all…he’d already finished replenishing his supplies.

It was Lazuli who noticed the other Hybrid first, he raised his head from where it had rested upon his forelegs and issued a curious little whistle. He'd never seen anyone quite like that before. Nothing about the tall slim man's appearance concerned him although bright greenish yellow eyes watched him carefully.
Maslin drew his eyes away from the red and white bobber that rested on the lake's surface turned his head to see what had caught Lazuli's attention. He had hazy memories of seeing the man in the distance somewhere before but he wasn't quite sure where. Regardless, he was obviously a hybrid and one with an impressive looking pair of wings at that. he raised an arm and offered a sort of lazy wave in the other man's direction. He could come and talk if he wanted or continue on his way, either result was fine with Maslin right now.

Ignotus
Ignotus noted the lazy arm wave form the man fishing on the banks of the lake and had a slight struggle within himself to approach another hybrid and maybe to have someone to commiserate against the world with. He looked down briefly at the bags of supplies in his arms and purses his lips thoughtfully. Oh well, what’s the use of being a Master Mage when you couldn’t even make a bunch of supply bags easier to carry. Concentrating briefly to summon the magical essence inside of him, Ignotus whispered a few magical words in old Orderite for a spell of levitation and bespelled the bags to float behind him. Spell casting done, the hybrid observed as the bag lifted one by one from his arms into a floating retinue behind him, the floating spell vaguely outlining the individual packages with a slightly blue aura. It had always irked him a little that his inner magics was such a bright happy colour long ago, however he had grown used to it in time. Much like everything in his life really.
The white skinned man then slowly made his way down the embankment towards the rather large bodied hybrid fishing, letting his gaze briefly touch on the playful Keindred watching him with a rather intelligent look in its eyes. Ignotus had never thought of getting one of the Dragon-like creatures for himself as he had enough problems with their much larger cousins and harvesting Dragon Souls. He then briefly thought of getting a companion for himself…but one thing at a time.
Finally, Ignotus reached a rather approachable distance from the other, inclined his head in a greeting and spoke, “Greetings, is the fishing as good as I have heard from the locals?”

Lazuli had given a small rumble of approval when the strange man had used blue magic to carry this things for him. Even though Maslin could see the same thing he projected the picture to his bonded anyways. Maslin should learn to do that! The keindred had never met a thing he'd needed that he couldn't carry for himself but Maslin was often hauling around huge metal projects and making multiple trips when just one would be needed if he had such magic.
Maslin snorted quietly at Lazuli's suggestion but offered a feeling of thanks regardless. He was pretty positive a levitation spell was a more advanced magic than he'd ever reached. A few healing spells and a little offensive magic was all Maslin had set himself on mastering. What he knew of magic and his chosen clan's skills was enough to keep him alive and mark him as not a complete pushover. For Maslin that was enough, his apprenticeship under his uncle in metal smithing was of far greater interest to him for the time being and he had not recently found himself in any situations where his current skill level was inadequate.
"Good afternoon, the fish are a bit shy with me today, though there's plenty of them," Maslin replied with a wry smile. "Some people are having better luck though."
Perhaps the fish disliked the bait he was using or it was the wrong time of day for the fish here or any number of variables that seemed to effect one's success when fishing. The hybrid man didn't fish often enough for it to be useful for him to learn everything one could know about fishing. Perhaps when he was old and had nothing else to do he'd retire around here and take to fishing every day. It seemed like the old men were those having the most success thus far.

Ignotus
Ignotus stared at the other hybrid, and resisted the curl of a sneer on his lips. It was true that kindness was often an alien sort of virtue to most hybrids and he certainly wasn’t the sort to possess it. However, he’d made more than the usual effort to be “kind” as hybrids often didn’t receive the sentiment often enough in their lives but to be dismissed with a half-hearted greeting. A Master of Magics such as him relegated to a measly “good afternoon” and a short blurb about fish? Didn’t he deserve at least an invitation to sit and chat? – or even a name?
The pale skinned hybrid felt his wings quiver with suppressed emotion and then raised an eyebrow at the other man, opening his arms wide and allowing his robes their most impressive expanse. “Perhaps the fish have had their fill of bait, “he then gestured to the other blankly staring fisherman lining the banks of Lake Amafel, “after all there’s quite a sizeable number of you throwing food at them willy nilly which is probably why Lake Amafel fish are so much fatter than those caught elsewhere.”
Ignotus then plastered his shopkeeper’s smile on his face and carefully willed the levitating purchases to land softly on the ground behind him in an organized pile. Apparently displays of Magic were less impressive on the locals than he’d thought. Probably, like most of Magesc, this one was too occupied with building their muscles and killing dragons than to the pursuit of a beautiful and intuitive art like magic. Sometimes Ignotus feared the entirety of Magesc was going to be populated by brainless bafoons with their clubs running mindlessly after dragons.

Maslin was less than impressed with the other man's none too subtle attempts at intimidation and what may or may not have also been a poke at him about his weight. It was just his luck that a fellow hybrid turned out to be as antagonistic as most people. There truly were only a handful of individuals outside of his family that Maslin found to be decent company. Though the naivete of his youth had passed Maslin had found all new reasons to dislike the majority of his fellow magescans.
Before his bonded's grouchy nature could scare the interesting hybrid off Lazuli was on his feet and moving across the creaky wooden dock towards the pale skinned man. " Nice magic, more?" The Peisio keindred would defend Maslin if the tension in the air brought a fight but he would much rather see what other things the stranger could do. "Lazuli," he offered as an introduction as he stopped only inches away from the robed man.

Ignotus
Ignotus observed the other hybrid eyeing him carefully. He was a little bit surprised to note that his subtle barbs had some effect, as most of the time those around him had their brains too addled by constant combat to even noticed his more hidden insults. It was oddly refreshing. There may be some hope yet to hybrids after all.
Large claws bat wings flexed behind Ignotus thoughtfully, as the pale haired hybrid considered his next actions. Caught deeply in his thoughts as a soft bell-like tone entered his mental landscape “Iggy?” anything interesting out there?”, and made the hybrid smile.
“Just another hybrid that might have more than a brain cell or two between him and his Drakein, you are free to come out and see them Inny.” Ignotus sent comforting aura of warmth to his kouda-kitsune that was currently napping around his neck, well hidden under the high collar of his robes.
So entrenched in the commune with his companion, Ignotus was slightly startled when the Peisio Drakein suddenly burst out with “Nice magic, more?" and looking up at the alabaster skinned man with rather large endearing eyes. He heard the “Lazuli” as the Drakein's introduction of its name only distantly in the background; his attention focused more on the inquisitive gaze directed at him.
But before Ignotus could answer, he felt a ticklish rustling around his neck as Informis softly uncoiled and stuck an inquiring head out just beneath his right ear. “It always makes me a little bit sad to see it when a Drakein gets bonded…”His companion observed, “It makes them so much more dumber…”
Ignotus had to purse his lips harder to avoid laughing outright. It wouldn’t do for his poised image to laugh like some low land villager. It was a good thing that, unless Informis wanted to, their communication was largely just between their minds.
“Hush, little one.”Ignotus chided gently, “Anymore comments and you’ll make me laugh straight at that hybrid’s face and as much as I’d wish to show him my powers, I am on vacation if you remember.”
Informis twitched his nose, his coils tightening around Iggy’s neck in distaste. “You would certainly wipe his face on the floor…But very well, I know you’ve been dying to show off some magic tricks and that Drakein is like a child. He will certainly think of you like –“
As Informis ranted at him mentally, Ignotus had pulled out around three brightly glowing orbs from his magical essence and set them to floating around the watching Drakein. “ – like the Master of Magic I am right?”
He could almost feel the sniff of disdain coming across the bond from Informis. “Whatever makes you sleep better at night Iggy.” replied the falsely sweet tone from his companion.
He then turned his attention to the Drakein called Lazuli, "Oh magic I can certainly do little one." and flashed a shark's grin.

Lazuli had been startled by the appearance of a small furry head from under but he was soon too busy staring at the orbs of magic floating around him to care. The keindred didn't know how much use such a skill had but it certainly looked pretty and the presence of so much magic made him feel good. His claws bit into the wood of the dock as he willed himself to stay still and not to try reaching out and touching the magic. The last time he had tried to play with strange magic it had ended poorly and Lazuli was not inclined to spend days recovering from injuries and being half blind again.
Lazuli longed for the time when he would have great magical skills too, displays such a this made him more determined than ever to practice. He would learn amazing things and then more girls than just Kioda would call him pretty. He would like her best though because she had been the first.
"Maslin come see, he is better than... she was." Having forgotten the woman's name he flashed a mental picture of an old aiskala dovaa through the bond. She had been very good but this was better, felt stronger, though different. This man didn't look as body strong though and he did not know if he was as fast as she had been. Who would win between them in a fight Lazuli could not be sure.
Unable to resist Laz's summons and interested by the display of magic despite being skeptical of it's source Maslin reeled in the fishing line and stood so he could join his bonded. He didn't recognize whatever it was the other man was doing. It looked like Aedaun based magic he supposed but he'd never learned anything quite like it. Of course he was progressing his magical learning pretty slowly right now so it might simply be something too advanced for him to have seen or read about.
"He is definitely better than Ba'shiri," he murmured in agreement as he got closer and could better feel the magic being worked. What you could see and the strength of the magic underneath is seemed to be two different things in this case. Ba'shiri seemed as if she had used her many years to master all that an Aiskala dovaa could possibly do but this man, he had potentially far more varied magic at his disposal, one of the few perks to being a hybrid. He might not like this man but he accepted that he held a power that Maslin himself likely never would.
Practise Lazuli prompted from through the bond.
Maslin opted to ignore the comment and instead address his fellow hybrid. " I'm Maslin, who are you and from whom did you learn that," he asked nodding his head in the direction of the magic encircling his bonded. Standing closer now he noticed the weird little fuzzy white head peeking up just past the high collar of the man's clothes " and what is under your robes?" The words came out of his mouth just as the young man realized how wrongly they could be interpreted.

Ignotus
Ignotus slowly manipulated the magic that was keeping the balls of light afloat and incrementally withdrew them back within himself. He had finally gained the attention of the other hybrid, more than the silent observation that he’d been accommodated by. It amused the mage a little bit to see the taciturn red-head with a Drakein companion who was so energetic. It was definitely an odd pairing.
Wings shifting behind him, the pale hybrid nodded in acknowledgement as the other finally gifted him with a name to call him by. Maslin, how quaint sounding.
The pale hybrid pursed his lips, a little bit irritated at the tone of the man as Maslin continued to talk. He asked, nay, demanded the information. Not only did the other hybrid eschew the normal social greetings when one meets another stranger, he also proceeded to command information as if it was his right to know regardless of what Ignotus would feel about it. Especially when it came to magic, from one hybrid to another, he should know that their learning was through paths not normally available from the normal purebreds. Ignotus felt Infomis’ glee from around his neck. His companion always seemed to preen a bit if giving any sort of attention. Even if the attention was a “and what is under your robes?”-question.
The master mage fought down the slight urge to unfurl his wings in a threat display, and folded them primly back down. Turning his attention to Maslin, Ignotus continued to allow a little bit of magical energy to dance around his fingertips.
“Suffice to say I have achieved a fair mastery of magic from my accursed heritage.” He replied, “However as we have just met, strangers in passing, I shall prefer to keep it secret.”
Ignoring the rather missed opportunity to rebuke the other for asking such a baited question of what could be found underneath the pale hybrid’s robes. Ignotus raised a hand up to the companion twined around his neck and pulled out the long sleek furry body of his Pipefox companion and held the curious beast in display. “This is the companion I gained when I achieved the mastery of my magics. He is Informis, a creature unique but still very much a product of my magic.”
Ignotus then inclined his head. “It has been an entertaining interlude, meeting another hybrid such as you, however I must depart. I have matters to attend to. Fair thee well Maslin and Lazuli. “
“I wonder if he’ll realize you didn’t bother giving him your name.” Informis giggled as Ignotus turned around to leave, not bothering to await the other’s reply.
“Maybe it’s for the better.” The mage murmured.
The world of Magesc was extraordinarily harsh on hybrids and sometimes this resulted in individuals who were not so adept in socializing. In this, Ignotus included himself. He knew he easily took slight when others did things that could be easily misinterpreted. He had accepted this about himself a long time ago, and unless someone taught him otherwise. He had no plans on changing anytime soon.

Lazuli watched sadly the strange hybrid man and his companion left. He would have liked to have seen more magic and maybe he and the fuzzy thing could have played while the magescans did boring things like talk about racial politics, a subject which Lazuli cared very little for.
He also didn't care for the idea of being replaced once Maslin was as powerful as the man they had just met. "Will you make a fuzzy magic thing too?" he asked, craning his neck a bit and looking up at his bonded.
Maslin shook his head and grinned down at the blue hided drakein " I have you, what would I need something like that for." Lazuli was his partner, in a way no magically summoned thing could ever be, so far as Maslin was concerned.
Meeting the other hybrid had been a strange and not altogether pleasant experience although he supposed things could have gone worse. Whoever the other man had been and wherever he was going were not Maslin's concern though. Like most people the pale man had come into his life, caused a bit of chaos and then left again.
"C'mon Laz, help me gather the fishing stuff and let's go home. " Tired from the experience and disliking the looks he was getting from the other fisherman now, Maslin felt it it was good time to make his own exit.
