Moving day. Maddy's fur itched as he lugged several stacked suitcases, and what suspiciously seemed to be a pile of fluffy minipets across Amityville campus. The rising slope of the Demon dorms seemed to loom above him, distant no matter how close it appeared. Mocking him.
His heel ground into the pavement. Why couldn't his papá have at least sent a footman or two?? Manual labor was the work of commoners, not established businessmen—no no, you've not proven yourself yet, he reminded himself. Papá would laugh at him for even thinking such a thing. It was what had put him in this predicament to begin with. Become a worthy Halloween citizen, they said. Make your family proud, they said—
He paused a moment to rearrange his neck kerchief, tail flicking irritably, as it brushed against another's leg. Maddy jerked about at the sudden intrusion, his face reddening against his otherwise pale appearance. And then realization struck him. "Ahhh you there, could you perhaps help a poor fellow??" He pointed with a crooked smile.

Of all the luck there was in the world, of all the gratuitousness moments and fortunate scenarios, Xavier Hollow, raum demon extraordinaire, had absolutely none.
Five minutes into his walk outside he'd tripped and ripped his pant leg.
Two minutes after he'd ripped his pant leg, he'd run into a tree.
Three minutes after he'd run into the tree, he realized that he'd forgotten to feed his minipets before he'd left.
Four minutes after he realized this, he smacked face to face into a boil, staggered away, only to realize that someone else was speaking to him - someone with a hat and a smile and -
Why was he smiling at him.
"Er," said Xavier stupidly. "Er. Wait. Er. Are you perhaps talking to me."

The feline arched a brow, his smile crinkling slightly. What precisely had gotten into this boil?? ... His pants leg was in tatters; that could certainly use some mending. And he could make do with a bit more combing of his hair. But he would do.
"I am indeed," Maddox crossed his arms with a flick of his tail. "You see, I see potential in you. You seem to be quite the hardy type, and have a real FEAR in your eyes. Just what I need to assure these make themselves safely to my dorm unharmed." He beamed nonchalant as he unloaded the suitcases before the other boil.

Xavier may or may not have wilted a bit more the longer the boil talked. He fidgeted on his feet and glanced down at the suitcases with a wary expression, as though afraid they might explode somehow.
"So, er, you, er...want me to...help you carry these, is that it?"

"That's precisely it," Maddy cheered. "You are a clever one, aren't you." Without waiting up, the feline turned on his heels and began off at a steady clip. But halfway across the lawn, he suddenly paused midstep.
"Oh eh, do forgive me, I haven't properly introduced myself. I am Maddox, Maddox Leandre. By chance, you wouldn't happen to know where I could find the demon dorm, do you?? ... Once we're there, I'll get your leg sewn up good as new. My family are quite the tailors." The catty grin had returned to his lips.

Somehow that felt like an insult. Why did that feel like an insult.
Xavier hemmed for a second and then hawed and then did a little shuffling before he reached down and attempted to pick up the suitcase. Which was, unfortunately, quite heavy and when the cat in question turned around he would find Xavier half draped over the suitcase, hair all askew.
"...Xavier," came the mumbled reply, half muffled. "And yes, er, yes, I think so because I'm a demon too."
He gestured vaguely behind him. "It's somewhere that way."
