Gaston's whole body ached. It was true that he had survived the cave-in that Xelloss, Mysterious Priest had caused but it did not mean that he had escaped without a scratch. Even before the deception had been revealed the burly stallion had picked up a few deep lacerations to his side. They had been caused by falling stalactites as the duo had passed through the cave. Now that he was back out in the open Gaston had been acting unlike his usual self. He was moving in what he believed to be an Eastern direction but he was finding it harder to navigate.
The stars were the problem. They were not the same as the ones that he had grown up with. Gaston was also waiting for nightfall to travel as he was effectively trying to keep himself isolated from the rest of the locals. He wanted his wounds and his pride to heal before returning to the limelight that he believed was rightfully his. He ground his hoof solidly into the dirt ... imagining for a moment that he had Xelloss's body pinned beneath him. This was the other reason for his forced seclusion. Gaston had been having disturbing moments of rather violent thoughts towards the devious Kalona. The stallion was unsure whether or not this feeling of rage would leak out and spread towards others that he could possibly meet.
Peering up at the sky once more Gaston noticed the glimmer on the horizon that heralded the arrival of morning. The location though seemed all wrong. Why would the sunrise be in the direction that he was traveling from? Had he been going the wrong direction all this time? Gaston's body was wracked by a violent shiver as he realized the implications. He realized that he was severely off course. How could this be? Gaston gave an angry snort before registering a strange sensation of being watched. He scanned the horizon and failed to see anything. Chalking up his paranoia to his restless state the stallion continued on his path. It wouldn't be too bad to do a little more exploring of the lands. What would be the harm in that?
Little did he know but his every movement was being watched.
