I earned my last name when I fought off a legion of enemy troopers storming the city of Bergecca- armed only with a medium-sized sword- now promptly named "the Fjordwind" - and my only guard was my helmet.
Well, that's what the bards say anyways.
While it might be true that I fought off an entire legion of soldiers, I was not alone. My helmet wasn't my only guard. And my sword wasn't the only one tasting enemy blood.
No. On the battlefield, I was accompanied by one of my most trusted companions. Sigvild Migghane, the Adamant.
Her blade was fierce, and her armor impenetrable. If any blade could swing and cut me down, hers would certainly be able.
We had known each other for 3 years, battling side by side.
Back to back. No enemy could stand against us.
We feared no one, and every army feared us. Except the minions of the Void Hand. They had no mind of their own, and only did as the Void Hand commanded.
The Void Hand had no mercy, no remorse. His greatest aim; to consume the world in the darkness of his black, evil hands.
The battle of Bergecca begun at the dawn of the first day, and ended by sundown 3 days later- neither side having paused for a second.
The Void Hand's minions had all been obliterated, except for one man: Bostur Distantiel.
No minion so far really stood a chance. Except for Bostur. Me and Migghane fought him with valiance and fury, but we couldn't beat him. But he couldn't beat us either.
I was weak. I couldn't stop her. Migghane didn't halt for a second when Bostur proposed to trade his army's retreat for one of us.
Within moments of of accepting the offer, Migghane disappeared in a shadowy light, as did Bostur and the remnants of his army.
I have wandered for a year now, and still asking myself: what could I have done to prevent this? Why did she give up her future, just to defeat one man? With the right effort, we could've defeated him, couldn't we?
I have wandered every battlefield thus far. My blade has been sharpened. My armor has thickened. But my mind is still scarred; I never saw her face. She had never revealed it to me, because she always wore her full helmet.
Maybe one day, I might see her again. I'll just have to kill more of the Void Hand's minions.
