[I love you - Hiemal & Haliath]
To put it into words was simple, but insufficient.
Words. Generally he liked them so well, their quirks and where they came from. It was an interesting study, though nothing to engineering. In a way he supposed it was engineering. Syllables were parts such as cogs, levers and triggers. The way you pieced them together defined whether you got a crossbow, a printing press, or merely a mess.
While they were a useful tool, one that he was in fact extremely precise with, he was not very adept at making them meaningful in the figurative sense. Perhaps this was because he was not very good at meaningful in the figurative sense in general. There was something about him... something that was not like other people. He couldn't read them, understand them, or relate to them very well. He had been quite content in this, in his superior nature, in his keen mind that placed knowledge and logic above all else. He had been content but now it was a handicap, he felt. He didn't really know how one coped with these strong feelings, summed up by most in three words and by some especially verbose poets in more than three score.
Face set in its usual calm mien despite his uncertainty Hiemal stroked the face of the hatchling that was irrevocably his.
She blinked her soft blue eyes and gently sent him the feeling he had been trying to define.
Hiemal's lips turned up at the corners almost imperceptibly.
Perhaps sometimes it was best said when it was not said at all.
