Since I've heard There are those of you that can't draw toes, I will show you how I draw toes today. Its pretty simple really. Basic shapes involved with a very simple sketch before you add in detail work. I'll show you step by step for three toes which you can add as many toes if you like using this. It all applies. I make wista with five toes using this, just adding dew claws on their feet as like thumbs.

First thing you are going to need is a sketch.

This is what I use for 3/4 legs and 1/2 legs most of the time. This would be a "Full" leg actually if you notice the tufts of fur at the top. See how simple this sketch is. There are no toes on it drawn. You want to start with something like this. Kind of like what you would draw for a chibi or something. Simple you know. Don't get all detailed in your sketch. Your inking is where the detail is.

Now you want to ink it. Start with your leg first, Top and work your way down to the bottom but don't go near to where your toes are going to be yet. You do not want to connect your toes to your leg until you are absolutely finished with them. You may make your toes for example PERFECT but OMG they are not in the right place. Well guess what, if you don't connect them to your leg, you can move them around with photoshop later to the right position and THEN connect them. Now Do only this.

Next make a Rectangular shape with round edges. Its almost an oval for your first to. The bottom is not flat, its round just like if you press your fingertips against a hard surface, they are not going to become flat, they are still rounded but just a little flattened on the bottom. That is what you are looking for here.

In my image I got it about the right place so it connect on the top part of my leg so if yours is awesome and connects at this point, great you won't have to connect it later, but for now, still don't connect your toes if you don't have them that way yet.

Now you want to make the next toe behind that toe. Its going to be slightly smaller than it at the top and bottom because its further away if you think of perspective a little bit here so don't make it bigger than your other toe unless for the creature it actually IS bigger. I've had pets where the toe actually IS bigger there so it was made that way on purpose so if you make it that way that is fine.

If you are looking at the foot directly from the side, you should be done at this point with toes. Most of the other toes would not show because they are behind the second toe. If your foot is at an angle to where you can see more toes like a 3/4 angle, you can continue to add more toes to this, as many as your creature needs here but I'm stopping at toes at this point and moving on

Connect your Toes with your foot. The top of your foot is going to be slightly below your toes and rounded in a U shape as you see in the image.

The bottom will be the same. It does not match up with the bottom of the lineart of the toes, it is actually a tad higher up than them and another U shape there. This is creating the illusion that your Toes are sticking out from your foot like your cat or dog's foot would.

Next step, Create the bottom of the feet. I like to make an actual difference in the top of the pet's foot and the bottom where you could find the pads of their feet. I just make squiggly lines 3/4 the way down of each toe and then along the bottom of the foot at an angle until it blends into the lineart all the way. Instead of making actually pads for the feet like I would, you could use this instead to represent the pads if you liked, I use to at some point. It is also a good guide when making Claws to use this. You know where to put them.

To make claws, you wouldn't have to make them, but here is how. The top of the claw will not reach the very top of your toe, be sure to leave a little room, then start at the top of your claw and make a curve downward and stop just below the squiggly line you made for the paw. Where the claw would come out of the toe, it comes out at the squiggly line at the bottom of it at its "biggest" and the top always is around the point shown here in the image.

If you have a creature with long claws, you can make them as long or far out as you want, just remember that in perspective if you creature is standing on something, it would be impossible for the claws to curve downward further than where its paw was.

Lastly, erase part of your toe so it becomes one with your leg and you are done~

For Feet that face toward you, Start with a sketch that looks like a tree or a volcano maybe lol You do this because there is weight being pressed on your pet's toes, so its toes are going to be spread out a little. Mine is going to be a poor example because I did it in like 10 mins, but you'll get the point lol

Ink the base of your leg down to where you would make the toes and stop. Then start on one of the edge toes you want to make and make one of them. It will be a rectangular/oval shape just like in the previous tutorial.

Next you want to make upside down U shapes in between each toes to connect them.

Make squiggles on each toe 3/4 the way down and in between them.

Next if you want make claws. For these you make the middle claw completely straight. Its facing you so its straight. all other claws away from it are going to curve slightly. If you have more than three toes, then you may not have a middle toe that is directly in front of you and they may all curve away from you slightly. The toes furthest away from you will have claws with the most curve.
