Do you bury me when I'm gone? Do you teach me while I'm here? A twelve year old boy who reappears after forty years (still twelve) or a sixteen year old boy (still sixteen.) I'm writing a game that I want my players to connect to, and feel sympathetic towards this kid, but I feel as though the twelve year old would be easier to feel protective of than the sixteen year old.

I'd personally feel more guilty murdering a sixteen year old than a twelve, 'cause they have more capacity to understand why the ability to see your own stomach is a negative thing.

Do you bury me when I'm gone? Do you teach me while I'm here? It's actually my hope that they don't kill him...

I would probably say the 12 year old since it's easier to feel sympathetic to a younger kid.

Whoever has the sturdier camel toe. I vote the former, I have a hatred towards spoiled sixteen year olds.

I'm not certain why I would have to sympathize some 52/56 year old guy, simply 'cause he's been away for a few decades.

Gakre I'm not certain why I would have to sympathize some 52/56 year old guy, simply 'cause he's been away for a few decades. Do you bury me when I'm gone? Do you teach me while I'm here? Well, I suppose that depends on how you determine age. Do you determine it by how much time has passed in your world since you were born, or how much time has passed for YOU? If the former, then yes, he would be either 52 or 56 (and my character Nemo would be over 900 years old.) If the latter, then he's 12/16.
EDITED: because my emphasis was kinda silly.

I wasn't entirely sure if they'd be experiencing 40 years in some alien place (while their bodies wouldn't develop at all) or if they'd be somewhat frozen in time for 40 years. Either way: it's usually the youngest ones who grow adept to sudden changes more easily. Though; both would probably miss their families and friends at equal levels.
