A white tail spiraled with every bounce. Out in the open campus grounds, not too far from the line of trees that outlined the beginning of the woods, Levi was doing what tatzelwurms did best; well- sort of.

This particular time, the ghoul was jumping in a style less frequently used for obvious reasons. Instead of landing feet and tail first, her somersault at treetop levels would have her landing hands first. It wasn't best for scarlings to learn this manner of bouncing given landing head first was a common reason for young tatzelwurms having brain trauma early on in life. It would account for why some of her kin seemed to have a few screws loose. Now, however, Levi practiced this spring into the air to try and best mimic a certain feeling- the feel of weightlessness.

For a short time, the tatzel floated between her high jumps and falls, landing hands first before crouching and bouncing up again. It wasn't the best practice given no matter what, Levi had the comfort of knowing she would hit the ground soon enough. Practice, practice, practice! The ghoul was quite determined to make it work.

West had spent the better part of this day sitting in a tree on the edge of the forest. He wasn't stuck, nor was he particularly enjoying himself, but he must have been learning something because he had accidentally fallen asleep. The boil was practicing his balance so that eventually... someday... when he was centuries old... he might actually outmaneuver the tatzel in a fight. He shifted slightly and stuck out a hand to brace his weight, but when it met the open air, West's eyes snapped open and he flung his arms behind him, clinging to the trunk before he could fall.

He glared around the immediate area, looking for people who might have seen his fumble so he could threaten them with dissipation if they went blabbing about it, but the only one he saw was Levi herself, bouncing around nearby like an overexcited boafox. What was she doing?

"Hey! Levi!" he shouted, inching out toward the end of his limb. West's wings appeared just long enough for him to clumsily scoot out of the tree and glide down to the ground, blinking out of existence again once he was firmly on his feet.

"Want me t'hold yer pin for ya?" Surely all that hopping would be easier and probably safer in her natural form.

Flying, at least, gave him the escape he needed when all else failed.

It had been some time since Ren had even allowed himself to fly, but it had gotten to the point where he could think of little else to keep his mind from going to places where he did not want it. His thoughts, twisted and convoluted, were beginning to thicken and blacken at the edges.

He felt as though he were drowning.

Flying, however, allowed him to rid himself of these thoughts - or, at the very least, push them aside for the time being, give himself some space away from all of the chaos they brought to him.

He sighed, flapped his wings once, and landed on one of the branches of a nearby tree, somewhere near the top. Ears flattening back against his head, he gave himself a small breather before getting ready to take off again, but -

- were those voices he heard? Turning around on the branch, he caught sight of something white and then something red - a familiar pair of eyes that looked as though they belonged to -

"...West?" called Ren, peering through the branches. "Levi? Is that you?"

To the untrained eye, it was just some bouncing. For Levi, she was strategically placing herself in a state of discomforting fall in order to simulate what it felt like the last time she'd gone through the air with the boil. She'd never call him out on it, but it was obvious West's strong point was not his skill for flight. If it ain't tha'demon himself. Her ears had caught the call from West, not but a few trees away, landing on all fours this time in order to peer over his way.

Yep, not the most flight-worthy bird in the barrel. Ya'lookin' ta'make yerself'a nest? Grinning, Levi gestured to the tree behind the boil, standing straight to meet his eyes and tilting her head playfully. Don't think ma'pin's gonna add much fillin' fer it, birdboil. Kekeke. Levi constantly fooled about West's feathered appendages, but in truth had a curiosity for flying with him; the tatzel wouldn't be here right now if she hadn't. Somehow, the ghoul needed to be ready for the possibility of catching herself from all angles.

Be prepared for the worst; that was what the ghoul was doing.

Levi's tail snaked along the ground, reaching to grasp onto West's when suddenly her white ears stood straight up in alarm. Tatzel tail ceasing all movement, Levi became a statue save for her eyes, which scanned the treetops again nearby. Someone's here.

The gryphon, sure enough, perched along a branch, gold hair just visible enough through an opening in the leaves for Levi to recognize. Ren! Enjoyin' tha' view up there? It could have been understood as a cheeky inquiry by the country ghoul, but Levi knew this boil's manner. He was the gentlemanly sort of boil rather than the smart-mouthed variety. Having spared with Ren before, the tatzel could detect that fighting wasn't his prime focus during his leisurely hours. She felt that if there were ways of avoiding it, Ren would; fighting and brutality were a last resort. The ghoul did respect his need to par regardless; it showed that the gryphon knew the importance of fighting even if it wasn't a preferred action.

Looks like both'a ya'll came out 'ere ta'spend some time treein'? Or were ya... fallin'? The ghoul briefly glanced back to West not implying anything.

Had he known why she was practicing falling like that, West would have bristled like a prickly pear at a porcupine party. As it was, her response evoked a simple eyeroll and a smirk instead. He'd only meant to look out for her, even though she didn't need him to. If she landed wrong and snapped her neck, she would be fine, of course, but that didn't mean it was something he wanted to see.

Shaking off that morbid and irritatingly clingy string of thoughts, West chuckled and waved a finger at the ghoul. No, not that one. "If I did have a nest, it'd be filled wit' better things than pi—"

He went on alert as Levi froze, peering up in the direction of that voice in the trees. Although he had crossed paths with the boil more than once, he didn't recognize Ren at a glance, but after the tatzel greeted him, West relaxed, the smallest of grins making a reappearance. The ghoul's questions would get an answer out of Ren as to what he was up to if he was in the mood to give one, so West just added a, "Hey," as he crossed his arms and waited for the other boil to join them on the ground. Nothing to see here. Just a couple of... nature enthusiasts having a conversation in the middle of nowhere.

Truth be told, despite the fact that they had all three been at the same school together for the past three years, Ren did not really know neither West nor Levi that well. He knew of them of course, and he'd talked casually with them - he'd sparred with Levi once, a long time ago - but they were not close in any sense of the word. However, Levi was certainly pleasant enough, and from what little Ren knew of West, while the boil was often seen as...grumpy...perhaps, he was not entirely unpleasant.

"Yes, very much so," he answered Levi, with a quirk of his lips upwards, his tail flicking over one of his legs. He leaned on a branch and peered down at her, ears swiveling in the ghoul's direction. "How about you? Enjoying the view down there? I have to say, I'm a little surprised - you two don't exactly seem like the flying type."

His gaze flicked to the redheaded boil. Ren lifted a hand, giving the demon a little wave. "Hey, West. It's been a while."

Levi's question made him pause a little, Ren's expression softening slightly.

"I just came to get some air," he said simply. "Take a little break. Get my mind off of things." He shrugged, attempting to sound casual. "You know, the usual."

Kekeke, some more than others I'suppose. Her voice rose in pitch at the end of her statement, emphasizing that she was most certainly not pointing a finger. Don't fly much maself. Dun been bouncin' ma'whole life but ya'll ain't never comin' down like me.

Or ya'ain't meant to, I reckon.

Again, no fingers pointed at all. Levi's head turned to glance at the bird boil wrath demon briefly before continuing to grin triumphantly at Ren as if she'd won something.

Aye, outta tha'darndest curiousness, ya'll ever fly much with another fellar, Ren? Not like a critter 'er nothin'- but a friend 'er folk? The ghoul was indeed curious about something, but tried her best not to elude to why exactly she inquiring about this subject. Reckon yew git them wings workin' out all tha'time if yer flappin'round just fer fun. That's tha'way ta'do it. Her tail swayed side to side while the wheels continued to turn in her head. Perhaps the fact that West and Ren were both here right now would help her to get a better grasp on experiences with flight. West, from what she knew, had a lot to learn in that area. Ren, if the casual flier he seemed to be, surely had a better skill for flight.
