The forest at sunset was truly a magnificent sight. Amaltheia was laid next to a tree, her legs curled round towards her as her brilliant emeralds searched the canopy for it's sun kiss glow. It's candle flame hues manipulated the seasons, giving the false pretence that Autumn was upon them. The colours and atmosphere gave the two scenes something common, they both reminded her of her dear sister Faun.
She had heard that many looked upon them with an opinion that the three sisters represented the coming of seasons. Ama liked that interpretation, it gave her a sense of purpose and belonging that nature would bless them such a beautiful gift. The only differences were that Lun had received flowers that illuminated like the moon in a clear night sky;Faun a burning flame that gave off warmth and Ama... Had received new friends.
In truth Ama didn't know what to think of her gifts. When she was a child, the plant on her rump never made a movement or a sound. She merely thought that it would grow and live like any other plant or flower - In silent beauty, however recently it had turned out that wasn't the case at all. It all happened so fast and all at once. At first small movements, like a twitch with a mind of it's own had Ama turning curious eyes towards it. Then the noises came.
It started growling, at first hushed, coming in short bursts but from then on they only grew louder happening more frequently. Until finally, it started wailing. This noise was bone-shatteringly high pitched. Ama had to rush from the nesting grounds as to not disturb her family. Now she was barely sleeping and most of the time felt drained of energy. It didn't help the only way to shelter her poor, sensitive ears from the noise were to flatten them against her head. Little did that help.
That was only part of the reason the mutant cerynei was within the evening forest. Other issues had come of them. Them meaning that the one on her rump wasn't the only one. A small butterfly had been fluttering around her for quite some now. It had kept it's distance for a while, maybe flying past her head once every so often. Then when the plant on her rump had sprung to life it started to fly closer to her and closer until finally it made it's home on her body. Bite marks kept appearing ever since, making her itch uncontrollably and you could only imagine what her reaction was when she caught sight of the creature up close. It's mouth made up of tiny razors that similar to the structure of a bear trap.
She had tried to ignore it until she couldn't take the itching any longer, so she pleaded for the creature to stop and remarkably it listened. That was one less thing to worry about. A calm before the storm.
It became apparent that they weren't happy over something. The wails, the bite marks were all clues to what they needed but what she found wasn't a compromise she felt she could make with the creatures. They interfered with her duties, gnawing on anything they could get a hold of;trees, branches, rocks but none of that was satisfying them. They were attracted to meat. Unlike before small animals now ran from her.
Sighing, the cerynei got to her feet. It was getting dark out and she didn't want her family to worry over her whereabouts so she set off walking in the direction towards home. Pondering over what else these mysterious creatures may also be capable of and what she could do to keep others safe and them happy.

It was not often that Aquitaine traveled this far from her home, especially now that Agave was in her life, yet the mare felt the need to wander, no no just wander but to search the lands once more. Recently she had been coming across more Soquili who were similar to her in many ways, those who had been born under the effects of the tunnel that she and her brothers had. It was clear that this tunnel was still a yearly occurrence, in fact twice last year it had been seen, bringing new and different children into the world. The appearance of two new batches of mutated Soquili had solidified Aquitaine's resolve to try to help those who were affected by it.
She had known first hand what it felt like to be an oddity, and while it had slowed her down in some ways as a foal she grew stronger because of it as an adult. Now she knew beyond a doubt that she was like this for a reason and that was helping others like herself. Her parents and even Agave had been supportive of her decision to wander the lands from time to time to look for others like her and offer advice, support or just a pair of understanding ears to those who needed it.
So far she had met quite a few others and Aquitaine felt that she had helped each one of them in a way. Some were not as negatively affected by their appearance as others and some were simply curious about it than anything else. Each new experience gave her more knowledge about he tunnel and it's effects and how to help others in the future. Aquitaine was grateful for the others and hoped that by spreading understanding not only among their own kind but to other Soquili as well then the fear and anger that some felt towards mutants might lesson once they understood that the looks didn't matter it was what was on the inside that did.
Tipping her head Aquitaine glanced towards the darkening sky. It was almost time to call it a day, for traveling at night was less than a perfect situation and she still admittedly had fears of being along at night. But she wasn't alone. Her gaze dropped to the loyal goat at her side and smiled.
Gaul hadn't said much in hour or so of their travels. He had noticed the sky turning it's stunning shades of pinks, oranges and yellows to indicate the setting of the sun and had turned his attention to finding a place for them to sleep that night. Aquitaine hadn't said much either, but he could tell by the look in her eyes that she was deep in thought. He had no choice but to break the silence. "We should find shelter soon. Perhaps in that forest up there?" He saw her nod and trotted off a bit ahead of her, willing to scope out the area and see if there was a good clearing before it got too dark.

Amaltheia hadn't been travelling long when the shrieks started sounding. Stopping in her tracks the exhausted mare looked back to the triffid on her rump, frowning. "I'm sorry, there isn't anything I can do right now to help you, I will solve the problem soon I promise." And she would but first she needed to figure out how. She couldn't bare to allow them to eat the forest animals, she felt like she would be betraying nature. Soon after the high pitched wail had found it's close, the birds had fluttered their wings rapidly to flee the scene. No doubt fearing their safety.
Now she was debating whether to return home or risk the night out in the woods. She was so tired and knew that if she was to go back to the nesting grounds then she would only keep the herd awake. If she stayed here, they would worry and she would be taking an extreme risk in the danger zone. She stood there in the silence, question after question pouring in to her thoughts;breaking only when sorrowful growls of hunger escaped the plants mouth once again.
She was just about to open her mouth when life seemed to fill the creature, it's jaws started snapping violently, stretching itself out as far as it could reach. "What is the matter?" She asked, eyes wide she looked in the direction it was wagging it's jaws in. The butterfly triffid which had been snoozing in her mane of leaves taking flight in the same direction. Was danger coming their way? Ama's heart started to beat faster, she gulped and slowly turned to trace the butterfly's path.
Ahead of the cerynei, Fetcher's little jaws were snapping like the blades of a fan, clamping away quickly at the air. It could taste the creature already, it was only a matter of time. The goat was only a couple of wing beats away from being bitten and not thinking anything other than FOOD, FEED ME, it happily lunged at it.

Aquitaine watched as Gaul took the initiative to search ahead and find them a place to stay for the night. They could have turned around and headed back closer to home, but with the encroaching night they wouldn't make it far and there wasn't a lot of options for shelter behind them. No, the best thing to do was to keep going forward and start the journey home in the morning after some rest. The forest seemed like it would be a good place to stay the night, it would provide her plenty of shelter and there would be food, through she would likely try to stay close to the edge near the meadow as she was used to leaving near large open spaces back at the beach.
A rumble from her back pulled Aquitaine from her thoughts. "We aren't going back to the beach tonight." She told the dragon figuring he was just grumpy about something. He hated water so perhaps a night away from the beach would do him good. The growl grew in intensity and Aquitaine knew it wasn't the thought of water that was bothering him. Knowing from past experience he often warned her of danger her head shot up and began to scan the area.
Gual trotted forward looking for signs of too much activity in the area. The last thing they needed to do was come upon a herd and invade on their territory without knowing it. Glancing back for a moment he saw Aquitaine slowly making her way towards the trees. If he worked quickly enough he would find them a place to sleep before she even reached the trees. As he moved closer he could hear an odd buzzing...no not a buzzing, it was more like a snapping sound. Head swiveling to find the source of the sound Gaul couldn't see anything nearby...except for this very off looking butterfly coming at him fast.
Aquitaine couldn't see any danger yet that didn't stop her from putting on a bit of speed, she didn't want Gaul so far away anymore. Her friend had slowed down a bit, she seemed to be looking around as if he had heard of something. The growl from her dragon grew louder again and he snapped his jaws closed in frustration. "I don't see anything." She told him, feeling suddenly scared and a bit useless that she couldn't see or hear the danger that he could. Narrowing her eyes as she ran towards Gaul they found a small fluttering object not far from her goat friend. "Gaul!" Aquitaine called out as she watched the creature move quickly toward him, and that's when she noticed it wasn't a normal butterfly, this one looked like it was made out of teach.
A loud scream rang out from behind her as the dragon called a challenge to the small odd insect. Fueled by fear and the sound of her dragon Aquitaine burst into a gallop to get to Gaul before anything else came out of the forest. If there was one of these things there could be more lying in wait among the trees.
Gaul let out a bleat of surprise as his eyes focused on the snapping mouth of a butterfly like creature. That was the source of that off snapping sound. Launching himself into the air, Gaul twisted and spun trying to get away from it's snapping teeth. He heard Aquitaine's voice followed by the scream of her dragon. "Aquitaine!" He called back to her, not wanting her to get too close in case it decided to come after her instead, though the insect would need to have a death wish if it was foolish enough to take on her and her dragon...unless there were more of them. His eyes moved to the trees for a moment before returning to the toothy menace that looked intent on making him into a meal.

Continuing to follow the butterfly triffid's path, Ama started to worry. It had darted off in such a rush she had barely managed to keep track of which directions it kept turning in as if it was trying to shake her off it's tail. Getting a bad feeling, she picked up her once cautious pace allowing her split hooves to fall in to a trot. The triffid on her rump howling in frustration. Stopping in the depths of the darkness, deadly silence lingered. Lifting her ears to their tips, Ama closed her eyes and settled in slow breaths so she could focus on distant sounds, hoping that would reveal the trouble makers whereabouts.
A brief moment later they caught a disturbingly distressed voice calling out, shortly followed by a scream of sorts. Gasping in horror, she kicked off her hind hooves and started to race in the direction the voice had come from. She knew it had to do with Fetcher hurrying off like he had. Usually he was content enough perching on her body, straying only when an animal was nearby... It hadn't sounded like the call had come from a small creature which caused the mare to worry for the poor creatures safety. If she didn't reach him in time, the bigger creature may crush him.
Fetcher was taken back by the sudden spring in the goats movements, sensing the whirling hooves as a warning he stopped snapping and flinched. The scream from the dragon catching his attention. Staying still in his curiosity, only differing to tilt his tiny little head to the side as he let out a squeaky 'caw' noise at the dragon then growled in irritation. He was hungry and blinded by it, he wasn't about to take notice of any threats. Letting out his meanest growl, the small carnivorous butterfly pulled his body back giving the impression it was puffing out it's chest before letting out another questionable noise as he shot off in the direction of the dragon. Ready to confront it.
Ama broke the tree line, bursting through the shrubbery just in time to see Fetcher make his move after three bodies. Much larger than anything he had bothered before. "Fetcher!" She screamed, her behind looking like it was possessed as Snappy decided this was the right time to act out too. His wailing sounds aiming to intimidate the figures that Fetcher was chasing after even though he was the one about to try and eat them and they were the innocent ones. It was a messed up reality of these strange plants protecting their kin.
It was too late. Fetcher had already reached them and Amaltheia couldn't bare to see what the others might do in that split moment. She halted abruptly, turning her head to the side to block her view of the three characters as to not see what his fate was however instead of attacking them, the butterfly also stopped. It snapped it's jaws uncontrollably, wings making animated shapes as incoherent sounds escaped him. He sounded as though he was scolding the dragon for something. Tapping it on the nose with the tip of it's wing then making a "Hmpth!" sounding grunt.

Gaul wasn't sure what to make of what was going on. Something small that could fly was after him. It vaguely looked like a butterfly but he was almost one hundred percent positive that it wasn't. Then the small creature got up close and personal with Aquitaine's dragon and even went so far as to touch it. He wasn't sure how the creature had survived such a thing but he didn't think it would if it remained so close to the dragon. Weatchign the creature closely Gaul took a step closer to Aquitaine. "What is that thing?" He asked her quietly, not wanting to draw attention to himself.Aquitaine watched in horror as the small insect like creature flew right up to the dragon in her hair and appeared to have slapped him on the nose with it's wing. The dragon, normally one to take offense to anyone being close to him or Aquitaine, only let out an irritated rumble and kept his red eyes glued to the small fluttering insect. Hearing another voice Aquitaine lifted her head to see a mare coming their way. Was this insect hers? That would explain why she was calling out to it, at least Aquitaine was certain that she had heard a name being yelled just then. And a quick glance around them told her there was nothing else in the area. Before she could say anything there was this strange sounding coming from the mare, though she could not see her lips moving. Turning her attention to Gaul for a moment Aquitaine shook her head. "I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's a mutant butterfly."
Slowly her gaze turned back to the approaching mare, things had calmed down a bit since the initial burst of screaming attacking creatures and the chaos that ensues with that situation. Of course there was still that strange noise coming from somewhere near or on the mare. "Is he yours?" Aquitaine asked as she moved closer to the mare, careful not to irritate the butterfly or her dragon. Her eyes looked around for the source of the sound, nothing else was around...and that's when she saw what looked like plants in the mares mane and one where her tail would normally be. One seemed to be open and unless Aquitaine was mistake the noise was coming from it. This mare possessed a certain quality about her that made Aquitaine wonder if she was the result of that tunnel that had affected so many others already.
"I'm Aquitaine." She told the mare with a smile. "Your little friend here gave us quite the scare." Now that she was closer to the mare her dragon returned to his normal attitude, he let out a low growl of warning, not want the mare or her butterfly creature to get any closer. His large head shifted and he set his glowing eyes upon the mare.

Amaltheia managed some level of bravery. Enough to turn her head slowly to where Fetcher had been when she came skidding to a halt, hiding him from view. Fearing the worst would happen to him. To her relief, he hadn't so much as gained a scratch from his cheeky antics and she let out a sigh to show her concern washing away. Her eyes directing to the mare, her goat familiar and the dragon in her hair.
Lingering for the most part on her dragon, which was growling at her. This made a change. She wasn't used to having some other creature, apart of someone else's body, growling at her. It was usually the other way around. Her ears twitched with the others speaking among themselves. Whispers questioning what she was made up. It wasn't surprising considering her triffidfly had scared them, rushing in to their personal space as quick as he had.
She looked to the mare with a nod, smiling at her apologetically. "Yes he is. I'm really sorry he bothered you." She dipped her head in a formal bow, her eyes seeking her troublesome companion. "Fetcher, come here." She called, watching the Triffidfly look to her then back at the dragon with another small growl before he returned to his host. He made a squeak, nuzzling her cheek and then flew over to her back, landing there.
Shaking her head gently, her plants grumbled with the sway. Flipswitch and Silent killer swayed towards the mare closet to them. The bottom one open it's mouth a touch but no sound escaped it. The other acting as though it was intently staring at the other mare or her dragon, it was hard to tell where it's interest laid.
"I'm Amaltheia." She smiled kindly back at her, attention switching from her to her dragon several times with a feeling of empathy. Taking the dragons warning seriously, she took a step back and chuckled nervously. "Sorry about that again, I think he is hungry and you must have been the closest form they consider food, to us." She looked to the dragon again, noticing how it was staring at her with it's piercing red eyes. "I thought I was the only one born with creatures attached to by body. It makes me glad to see that I'm not the only one."

Aquitaine smiled at the mare. "It is quite alright, no one was harmed, we were just surprised by his sudden appearance." She watched as the small mutant butterfly went to the mare when he was called. Well at least he listened to his master, which was a good sign. She watched the plants on the mare move and open their mouths. They certainly reminded her of her own hair dragon, how he had been so unruly and loud in the beginning, it had taken a lot of time and effort to get him to respect her and others, though he was still working on being accepting of strangers, something that was both a relief and stressful to Aquitaine.
"It is good to meet you Amaltheia. And you too Fletcher." She said with a light laugh. Now that the initial burst of energy and confusion was over Fletcher really did seem like a well behaved creature. Of course then she heard the mares words and wondered if she needed help with her butterfly and plants. "Well I hate to disappoint you Fletcher but neither myself or Gaul here," she motioned towards her goat, "are food."
Her eyes moved to the pants in the mares mane again and gave her head a nod. "We are far from the only ones like this Amaltheia. While others may not having living creatures attached to their body there are quite a large number of Soquili out there that have very different appearances." She paused for a moment considering things. "Do you have any siblings Amaltheia? I only ask because I have two brothers who are similarly different like us. My one brother, Arcadius, has plants in his mane as well and they require regular feedings, though it took him time to figure out what they liked to eat and how often they needed to be fed. My dragon, however, does not eat though as I am sure you have seen he can be temperamental and dislikes having others too close to me."

She was relieved to know that the mare and her companions had not been harmed by Fetcher, having been bitten a few times by him she knew that there wasn't any real harm he could cause but the wounds did become itchy and bothersome.
They could become highly uncomfortable and even just going through that she wouldn't want another to have to deal with it either. Her other triffids, she knew already without having to witness a disaster, that they could cause a considerable amount of damage if given the chance.
They were bigger, fangs sharper and more ruthless than fetcher.
She looked over her shoulder at Fetcher when he was addressed wondering how he would react to another's voice.
Fetcher looked as though he was staring at the mare for a time then let out a 'awhhee' noise which sounded like disappointment, his frame 'sulked' and slumped down. Ama sighed gently, turning her eyes back on to Aquitaine.
"It's good to meet you too, Aquitaine." She replied softly, listening to what she had to say. So it was true, she and her sisters weren't the only ones. Not only that but there was quite a few. It made her feel not so alone in this world, that there was others that she hadn't met yet dealing with a variety of problems, put in similar situations.
As unfortunate as those situations could be, gifted or not, she wondered how extreme there problems were vs her own and if it was selfish of her to be so worried over her own when others may of needed more help.
"I do." She smiled. "I have three sisters and a brother however only the two sisters that were in my litter have been twisted in the same way. They don't have plants, like your brother and I seem to share or companions in any form, like your dragon." She paused, looking to the dragon once again.
She thought Aquitaine was lucky indeed that the dragon didn't need feeding but her brother had caught her interest. What did he feed his plants? She would have to ask once she had finished. "My sister Lun, has bone antlers and flowers in them that glow. My other sister, Faun, a flame that dances and flickers upon her head."
She nodded carefully. "I can see that he is very protective of you." She twists her head to the side, her leaves brushing her eyes and cheeks. "I promise you, that I will not cause your host any harm and will prevent any that my own companions may try to bring to her." She speaks to Aquitaine's dragon, though she wasn't sure it would take well to it. She could only hope that it would but she wouldn't try getting any closer to her in case it attacked.
"What would your dragons name be? Does he have one?" She asked curiously, looking from the dragon finally back to the opposing mare. Sparing a glance to Gaul, who she hadn't yet greeted and gave a careful dip of her head in hello to him, too.
