It didn't take long for a mist to find out when a death was hospitilized. In fact, she'd say 6 hours after Otto's return and stablization in the life ward was when she first started to hear the rumors. And then confirmation came soon after that.
She knew. SHE KNEW, he wasn't the type to stand her up. And yet she had sent that text message, and she had doubted him and she felt relieved because in her mind, the only thing that had kept him from seeing her was literally dying on the jobs.
Which in itself was a horrible thing to feel relieved, especially if he died because HEY, OTTO DON'T DIE. It was one of the first time she actually ran since becoming a hunter to the hospital and demanding to see him. Luckily enough, visitation hours were good. Otto was stable and alive and....
"Oh...Oh Handsome." She coo'd as she entered the room, looking at the boy. Wrapped with bandages, tied up to machines. The damage she was told, was almost too close...too close to finishing him off. "Oh Otto." She reached up and brushed a bang away from his face. All thoughts of being stood upp dissipated into nothing.

Between having a bloodied and panicked Clerise visit her and hearing about Otto's hospitalization, Eva was almost certain that she herself was about to drop dead if her heart stopped anymore than it already had. What the hell had happened? Was he alive, was he okay, would he make it? Clerise--understandably--didn't seem as if she was in the best state of mind either, and Eva made herself a promise to check up on the other woman later on.
But first, there was a particular blond boy that she needed to see to. Her face was pale and her heart was racing as she made her way through the hallways of the building, pushing past people in a hurry as she sought out the infirmary. Why did this have to happen, and to Otto of all people? To think that not long ago, they had been having a serious talk about their relationship, and now...
Her heart ached, but she tried to cast the worry aside because he was okay and he would make it. She knew he would, and would not even humour the other, frightening option. When she reached the door, she resisted the urge to fling it open, telling herself that it would do her no good to wake him up if he was resting. Instead, taking a deep breath, she forced herself to slide the door open quietly and poke her head in, her voice a hushed whisper. "Otto?"
To say that she was surprised to see another face present would have been an understatement, but Nevada's presence was met with a weak smile--the most she could muster considering the circumstances that had brought them both here. "Hi Nevada," She greeted quietly, moving forward so that she could stand by the other girl, "How...how is he?"
Not that she needed to ask upon actually seeing Otto laying there. At once, she felt herself gripped with unspeakable emotion--sadness, worry, fury--but she managed to keep her voice even as she let out a grumble. "Do we know...what happened? Who did this?"

To match the surprise from Eva's entrance was well...matched. Violet eye's widened a little before nodding and gesturing the girl over, her hand rest lightly on the boy's forehead.
"Hello Eva." She smiled at the girl, though her smile was filled with mirroring emotions. She was upset, sad, scared and admittely relieved he was alive. "From what they told me, better then he was six hours ago." Her voice was hushed as not to disturb him. "They told me that he came in...bleeding...Um...bleeding out. A life hunter had found him from what I heard and had she been any later..." She shook her head, brown locks swaying.
"There was no one else there besides Otto, and he works solo. You know, not a big people person." She looked over at Eva, guaging just how well the woman would know him. Pretty well if she was here at the same time Nevada was. Perhaps this was one of the older sister friends that he talked about?
Certain dread curled in the back of her mind, but was relished underneath the emotions of seeing the blonde in a hospital bed.
"Halloween creature." Nevada murmured, "They said the wounds were self inflicted but they don't know how." She looked over at Eva, "I'm new to this, to these creatures so I don't know what they are capable of but..." She bit her lip.
"And not even the day before was I sitting on the training field with him and confessing my feelings. I seem to have really bad timing on this."

Pressing her lips into a thin line, Eva squeezed her eyes shut and forced herself to take a deep breath. Bleeding out--just how close had he been? Then again, gauging from the state Clerise had been in, and all the blood that had stained the poor woman, Eva could wager a guess.
"Yes I...I heard that Clerise found him, thank the gods." Had she not shown up when she did, who knows how long it would have been until someone found him. And by that point, it wasn't unlikely that he would be--no. No, she wouldn't think about it. The point right now was that he was here, safe, and alive. Recovery would come with time.
Nevada's comment earned a small, amused smile as she stepped forward and set a hand on the sleeping boy's shoulder. "He can be stubborn to a fault, that's for sure. Grumpy, pessimistic...but he has a good heart. That's why we all love him, right?" She let out a quiet, affectionate laugh before turning back to look at the mist trainee. Her lips dropped into a frown at the words "Halloween creature".
She wasn't not, by any means, about to go out and hunt every Halloween creature out there now--they weren't all bad, as Mei had proven--but Eva couldn't deny the fury that burned inside her at the thought of the particular one who had harmed Otto. Eva opened her mouth to say something--probably along the lines of, "we'll find them"--but when Nevada continued, the only thing that left the young woman's lips was a surprised "oh".
..."Oh" indeed. Uh oh.

Nevada didn't quite know who Clerise was but from the way it sounded, she was probably...Nope she remembered now! Clerise was the one that got Otto in gymnastics. One of his sisters. Gods, how horrible would it be to be her and find him in a pool of his-Nope.
/Don't think of him like that Pidge, Kid wouldn't like knowing you see him now in a pile of blood./
"One of the few times that I might be upset with him and his nature." She smiled at Eva because the girl knew excatly what she was talking about. "Yep! He told me stories about you guys. The ones that treat him like older sisters? I'm glad he has girls like you, and Ami and Clerise looking out for him." Even if this was one of the few times that he didn't have them with him.
She quieted down, before looking at Eva guiltly. "I thought he stood me up on the training field. He told me he wanted to talk, and I was sure it was about me telling him that I liked him....And I waited three hours for him to come. I feel so stupid for thinking and getting angry that he stood me up when he was really getting maimed by one of the creatures...." She laced her hands together, "I thought he hated me you know? hated me for what I said. Maybe it was too soon? Maybe I pressured him into it?" She shook her head. "I guess, I'll have to wait for him to wake up for him to tell me if he accepts or not?"

Oh gods, how was she supposed to react to this whole situation? It was hard trying not to feel uncomfortable or guilty--impossible, in face--but between Otto's current state and this revelation, the former still carried more importance. That, and she felt it wasn't her place to speak on this topic of confessions and relationships--for that, the blond boy would have to be awake.
But really, she was having some trouble trying to figure out how to respond and carry on with the conversation in a manner that did not betray her sudden awkwardness. The comment on being an older sister was met with a small smile and a faint shake of her head. "What can I say? He just attracts people who love to dote on him."
When Nevada went on to explain the situation however, Eva found herself frowning faintly and speaking with more vehemence than she had intended. "No, of course he doesn't hate you, Nevada! There's nothing wrong with confessing your feelings--everyone deserves to have your feelings known." And while she believed in this whole-heartedly, there was still that ache of guilt and anxiety in her chest. Clearing her throat, her voice softened slightly as she glanced down at the sleeping boy.
"Though I guess...now you know why he didn't come. He certainly didn't stand you up on purpose, that's for certain, but you shouldn't be angry at yourself for being upset." A weak, wry smile curled on the corners of the girl's lips. "You couldn't have known and...really, being asked to meet someone who never shows up would be aggravating to me too."

Nevada just shook her head and smiled at Eva. "He does. Underneath all that grump is a sweethart that we al love. He's got a lot of heart..." Her smile disappeared.
It was a feeling of awkwardness over this whole thing. On one hand, she wanted to know Otto's answer, to know what he said. On the other, the more she looked at Eva and wondering why she was here...the less she felt sure about his answer.
What if this was the girl he held in his heart? Oh man, that would suck. But for who the most? What if Eva didn't like Otto like he did here. What if she DID? And what about herself? Nevada didn't like the feeling of being stifled with thoughts.
This was too much work for her mind to handle while the boy in question laid in bed. So she did what she did best, a trait her sister and her shared together.
"Eva, I think...I think I'll go now instead. You'll probably be better at taking care of him..." As she headed outside of the door, she took a moment and let the nagging thought surface. "Are...do...um..." She tried to get the words out..."Are you in love with Otto?"

"A ton of heart," Eva agreed, laughing softly as a grin spread over her face, "Really just need to get past that snarky exterior of his first, yeah?" It was always good talking to someone who seemed to understand that.
Awkward situation aside, that was. Eva wasn't entirely sure how to take the news, but after a moment of contemplation, she decided that it would be better to let Otto speak to Nevada first. Girl chatting could come after--Nevada had been promised a meeting with the blond boy, and Eva didn't want to interfere in that.
And so, at Nevada's question--although Eva visibly stiffened--the young woman forced herself to take a deep breath and smile. Straightening up, she followed Nevada to the door, reaching out to give the girl's hand a light squeeze.
"I think you deserve that talk with Otto first. I'll have him text you when he wakes up, okay?"

It was just as it was suppose to be, so Nevada couldn't be frustrated with Eva for not answering her. When Otto did talk to her, she'd know soon enough.
Instead she squeezed the other girls hand and nodded. "Thank you, It was nice seeing you again though." Nevada smiled as best as she could before leaving out the door.
And fleeing into her room. Until Otto woke, she's just have to prepare herself for the worst. Because she had a feeling it'd probably be rejection she was facing.
