Chop-chop-chop. Whisk, stir, chop-chop-chop. Happy cooking sounds in tandem with off-key humming waltzed out into late afternoon air. Curls of steam slinked their way out of the open kitchen door of Evalia's home as she slipped outside to clip a few sprigs of Thyme from the hardy little herb, still determined to grow even through the cold of winter. Raising up from her little herb garden just off of her patio, she took a deep breath of invigorating fresh air, smiling as her eyes lingered over her gardens. Most were sleeping for the winter, some of them covered with blankets of straw to protect precious roots, others filled with bushes naked against the cold, waiting for spring. Her little green house nestled in the back-yard held some little gems that had been made a feature in her soup this evening, and even outside as she was, she could still smell the tasty base.

Snipping one final sprig of hardy winter herbs she slipped back into her home, leaving her door open so she could admire a plucky little cardinal who had decided to land on one of her garden and preen himself, a vivid splash of cheery red hopping around the edge of the old fashion wooden bucket. Her father was once again out of town on business, but thus was the life his job had doled out for him. He enjoyed his job, and it allowed for her to live at home without feeling like she "still lived at home," But she did miss cooking for another living person. It was nice to know that the things she made went into sustaining another person's life, not just her own. But sometimes, one must cook only for one, and that was not something that was all together a bad thing. No one ever gave her grief for being a vegetarian, so that was a plus!

Giving the herbs a quick rinse she chucked them into the thick soup and let the bubbling little pot of happiness get back to cooking, listening to the happy squawking of the cardinal before he flapped his wings and flew off to some other part of the suburbs, knowing that the worst of winter was now over.

Things were a little busy around the new house. The moving truck was in the drive way and everyone was busy carrying boxes into the house. Even Nathan, though only the lighter things and only what was his: he would leave the furniture to Tony since it was his bright idea to move again anyway. Nathan hadn't even fully unpacked from last time.

Granted, that had been a rather long time to go without unpacking, but it hardly mattered to Nathan.

Tony was so busy with the hard work that he was having a difficult time keeping track of Dogby. She had been put in the house, in a room, but doors were being open and shut all the time, so it was difficult to keep her in any one place. Dogby slipped out of her room and padded innocently around the house, sniffing everything, before she wandered outside and began to explore the new neighborhood.

Alone.

Tony had been upstairs at the time, trying to put a bed together. Well, attempting to take it apart after building it back up wrong so he could then put it together properly.

Dogby padded down the street, tongue lulling out the side of her mouth as she bounced on her tiny legs, sniffing flowers and trees, as well as every single fence post she passed.

Two houses down the road, surrounded by a very old fashioned white picket fence, was Evalia's tiny little two bedroom home. Nestled in the middle of sniffy dog heaven, with bushes and garden boulders galore and smelling very much like delicious soup, it sat with its door open.

Walking to the cupboard on the other side of the kitchen to get a bowl, she happened to catch a glimpse of something out the front window. A little flash of brown between the white panels of her fencing.. The fence was there for aesthetics, not to keep in an animal of any sort, so it was easy to see the flashes of something hopping along. Blinking, she set the bowl down and went to her window, looking out... She saw nothing. Sure her mind was playing tricks on her, because she swore she just saw a giant rabbit gambling along the sidewalk, she went back to the pot of soup and removed the lid, turning the burner off.

Holding her hair back, she leaned forward and took an appreciative sniff, before leaving the pot alone to cool. Pouring herself a cup of tea, she shrugged on her jacket and slipped out to her front porch, scooping up her favorite book on to way to go snuggle up on the little white wicker, pillowed bench that sat outside, her favorite spot for reading.

Dogby smelled the heavenly scent of soup and decided that she wanted it. Often times when she wanted something she got it, not because she was relentlessly annoying about it (which she could be), but because people liked to share with her since she was cute.

She often used her adorableness as a force to get fed, to be petted, or to achieve other simple goals.

Evalia would find a dog sitting by the leg of the bench, her stump of a tail and most of her bottom waggling as she watched the girl and her soup with mostly forced patience. She would jump up if she could, but her tiny legs inhibited her quite substantially. She let out a soft whine, just in case her presence was not known.

Though usually people did not have trouble noticing her.

Back at the house, that was actually Tony's trouble. He could not find her, and was calling to her with increasing panic. She'd escaped and run off before, and it had not gone well for anyone.

Evalia shut the font door softly behind her, just in time to hear a whine from her patio. Blinking she tilted her head as she spied a little wiggling ball of cuteness watching her with the most intense look she had ever seen on a little furry face before.

" Oh well, hello there!! " The young woman carefully set her book and tea down on the little tiny table beside the bench and knelt down to offered her hand to the pup for a sniff, her hair pooling about her in a big shimmering white heap. " I don't think I have ever seen your before honey... you must new, are you lost sweety? " She mused aloud. The sweet little dog was obviously cared for, but there were only a few houses around here with pets, and she was definitely not one of those dogs.

She wasn't aware of any new neighbors, but she had been so busy with her studies that she didn't really keep close tabs on all of the houses that were for rent or for sale. " I wonder how long you have been out for.. " She spied the glimmer of a tag around the dogs neck. " Oh good, your wearing a tag.. " relief in her voice. She could easily walk the pup home if she needed to. She sadly, did not own a car, and she really didn't think she could transport the dog on her vespa.

Dogby's attention was fixed on the bowl, and she whined meaningfully when it was set down a ridiculous distance out of her reach. That was unfair: it was clear that she had no height and could not get much more even if she stood on her back feet. Her little legs could only go so far.

She sat down and lifted her upper body off the ground, perching on her haunches and looking at Evalia with her big, brown eyes. It was like she was pleading, which she very much was.

The way she was sitting, she looked like a meerkat. Of course, the human's words were lost on her, save for the terms of endearment and the gentle tone. It was enough to convince Dogby that they were friends and everything was fine.

Tony, on the other hand, came out from the house and called for the corgi, trying to see which way she had managed to waddle off in. For such a low to the ground dog, she managed to get a lot of distance on those stubby little legs.

Quite sure she was witnessing the cutest thing on the planet, she gave the little pup a scratch on her head, continuing to talk and coo to the dog, speaking sweet nonsense to the little girl as she flipped over the tag and saw the adress. Pale green eyes widening in surprise she read it again... Wow this pup had gotten all the way to here from the other side of town... The poor girl must be just exhausted. Her brain filled her thoughts with images of a long Homeward Bound type trek, wrought with mountain lions and thunderstorms and waterfalls ( Even though none of those things were anywhere in the path between the address and her home. )

Seeing the way the pup eyeballed her bowl, a smile crossed her face. " Oh, Imagine my manners! Your probably starving. " She made a mental note of the phone number and name on the tag, and stood, opening her front door. " C'mere pretty little one " She said, making a patting motion on her leg that was the universal dog signal for follow me.

Walking over fluffy carpets into the tiny little kitchen she took out a shallow cereal bowl from her cupboard and ladled out a bowl-full of soup, before turning around and patting the ground next to her, and setting the bowl down. " Come here sweetheart " It would do no one any good to call the dogs owner only to have her wonder off before they could get here.

Dogby was most definitely not starving, she had only been feed a few hours ago, but she was more than happy to let her think that if it meant getting whatever the delicious smelling thing in the bowl was.

Very good at reading universal dog signals, Dogby moved with her into the house, butt wagging so furiously she nearly knocked herself over a few times.

She was very excited about it.

Her nose was in the bowl almost before it was on the ground. She loved the taste of the food, definitely. She was happy as could be, not aware at all that she was giving her owner a proper heart attack by wandering off, and he was running around feeling like an idiot trying to call to her and get her to come back home. The last thing he wanted was to lose her as long as he had the last time she'd run off.

He needed to be a lot better about keeping her with him at all times, clearly.

Smiling, sure she was feeding a poor pup wasting away from the trials of a long arduous journey, she watched Dogby gobble up the soup with gusto, feeling the same feeling she had every time she took care of another living thing. With a chuckle she went and shut the front door, flicking on her little gas powered fireplace as she passed it. Surely lost out in the cold for as long as she was the little doggy would be wanting a warm place to cuddle up white waiting for her owner. Coming back as the last licks of soup were devoured, she picked up the bowl, and placed one more ladle of soup. She wasn't really sure how much a little dog her size was supposed to eat, but considering how quickly she ate the first serving, it had probably been hours, maybe even days sense the sweetheart had been given a proper meal.

Once again Images of Dogby, starving in the rain under a bridge, or huddling in cardboard boxes in the dark alleys of destiny city entered her mind. She went to her phone and punched in the number from the Corgi's collar, she held the phone to her ear, the ringing of the telephone drowning out the sounds of some man running around looking for a girl named debbie.

Tony was more than a little worried and upset now. He had no idea where his dog had gotten and he wanted to find her before she got into any trouble. He knew she was good at getting in trouble, and dragging others into it as well.

At least, that was the record so far.

Dogby looked up at as the bowl was taken from her, doing a little back and forth dance on her paws while she waited for more food to be returned to her. She wasn't sure that it would come back, but then she saw the spoon and yipped excitedly.

She was a big liar, pretending to be starving when really she was just a dog who liked to eat. And cuddle. And be the center of attention.

Tony stopped when his cell phone started to ring. He looked down at the number, not recognizing it, then picked it up. "Hello?" he said, a little too stressed to really be paying attention.

( Im Sorry my lame reply is lame! )

Smiling as the little dog returned to her food, she gave her a little scratch behind the ears as she let the phone ring away in her ears. She walked over to her favorite spot in the living room, settling down on the floor. Strips of fabric and lace peppered the floor, and she quickly scooped it all up and dumped it into the little basket she kept for when she wanted to make or add something to her clothing. As the pup finished off the last of the soup, she patters the soft carpet next to her invitingly.

" Come here sweetheart. " She patted the carpet one more time as someone answered the phone. " Hello, Mr. Darrows? " She cradeled the phone against her shoulder, held in place by her head tilted down to it, so she could free her hands in dumping the last remnants of sewing paraphernalia into its little basket, not wanting her furry little house guest to step on a pin or get Velcro stuck in her fur.

"Ah, yes, that's me. Who is this?" The number hadn't come up on the display so he wasn't sure who he was speaking to. He was in a bit of a panic, as well, which didn't help.

He just wanted to find his dog and go home. She was the worst for getting out and getting her cute butt lost.

Corgis, man.

Dogby had no idea she was causing anyone stress, having a great day because she was enjoying some food and the company of a new friend. She was perfectly happy with how everything was going, all told, and this was much better than the last time she had gotten out of her house, definitely. No rain, no scary monsters.

" This is Evalia Catling, I was wondering if you are the owner of a small female Corgi? One seemed to have wondered into my home, and you were the contact information on her Identification tag. " She dumped the last of the fabric scraps into the basket, one particularly long piece of dusky pale pink lace refusing to be contained, edges continuously flopping out of the basket. Snatching it out she ran the length between her fingers, her brows furrowing, as her eyes flicked back between the ribbon and her new furry friend.

" Your address is on the other side of town, so I was wondering if maybe she had been missing for some time. If you had put up posters or anything, shes so far away that chances are no one here has seen them. " She rushed on, hearing the panic in his voice " She is completely safe, so you don't have to worry. "

She turned and smiled to the Corgi, who looked quite pleased with herself. With a grin she scooted across the floor to the little dog, the length of lace ribbon in her fingers. " Poor little girl was acting as if she were starving though, how long has she been missing? "

Tony was pretty sure this was a trick of some kind, as fortuitous as the call had been. He'd just been panicking about his little lost dog, and then out of the blue he gets a call from someone who had found her. That was incredible to him, almost to the point where it was difficult for him to believe.

But now was not the time for skepticism.

"Oh, yes, I am! I-I'm so sorry, I hope she didn't damage anything..." he could imagine Dogby getting into someone elses home and just running in circles, taking out any furniture or other animals, or even small people, that stood in her path. She was a whirlwind of excitement, sometimes.

A force that could not be stopped.

"Actually, we just moved, and she just ran out the door! I haven't had a chance to update her tags yet. I'm so glad you called, Miss Catling! I was panicking. She's such a small dog and... not the brightest..." he had been worrying that she would try to befriend a car, or another, but much larger and angrier, dog.

"She's only been out a few minutes, and recently fed. She's a bit of an... attention seeker, to be nice about it. I'm so glad you found her, though! Her name is Dogby. Where are you? I'll come and pick her up right now, if that's alright with you." He was sounding frazzled and speaking faster than even he normally did, though not just because he was talking to a talkative person. It was nerves, and relief, all mixed together.

He was just happy to know Dogby had been found, and it wouldn't be another ridiculous endeavor like the first, and only other, time she had run off.

Evalia felt her face flush with embarrassment " Oh well... She got fed again. Nothing bad! Just some vegetable soup.... Shes quite a good little actress. " She laughed, acutely away she had been bamboozled by a cute little furry face. She gave the pup a loving scratch behind the ears, and then looked at the ribbon again and grinned.

" Sure, that's fine! Shes just sort of hanging out in my liveing room, she hasnt been any trouble, I swear." She rattled off her address to him, completely unaware that she literally lived only two houses away from Dogby's owner.

She leaned down and with couple of twists of her fingers, she looped the piece of lacy ribbon into a big bow, looking almost like an antique Christmas bow. It looked just adorable on the little dog, or at least in Evalia's mind it was adorable.

She wished she had a camera, it was like something out of one of her pet magazines.
