It'd been a few days since Gene first realized her feelings for the Reaper, and she had yet to encounter him. Part of that was on purpose; she had no plan of attack yet. Tell it to him straight? That seemed like the best option, but...
Well, she was allowed to be a coward sometimes, okay. She'd been texting Xiu and Danny about it the whole time, getting responses like "OMJ U 2 WUD BE SOOOOOOO CUTE PLS ASK HIM OUT GENE" from Danny, along with a slew of the phrase "DO IT DO IT DO IT" (which nearly crashed her phone, jack dammit Danny).
Xiu, on the other hand, was offering her actual advice and helping her sort out her feelings. It wasn't that Xiu was a better friend than Danny, she was just...intelligent.Kaiyumi From Gene: I just don't really know how to approach him? I'm sure he'll listen and understand and all, but how do I do it? Just say "Hey Mot, c'mere, I need to talk to you?" I'm really not sure.
From Xiu: Gene, just breathe a little. You'll figure it out, I'm sure! Maybe try sitting him down for coffee? You two both love it, I know. Hmm...yes, that would be a good plan. She replied with a quick thanks, and looked up from her phone. From the roof of the school, she had a great view of everything from the evening pumpkin sun to the lake. It was peaceful and calming, something that she routinely needed.
A light sigh escaped her lips, she would stay up here just a while longer. Then, she'd track down that cowboil.

Mot stretched his hands over his head as he reached the top of the stairs that led to the roof of the school. What a long day it had been. The school was stuffy, and he needed some fresh air. Escape the daily grind for a break. With a small bag of jerky sticking out of one of his belt's pouches, he emerged onto the roof, only to find he wasn't alone.
It was Gene! His coffee companion. A grin formed on his lips immediately. "Howdy, Gene!" He called out, waving a hand. Memories of the dream he'd had trickled through still. But it was just a dream, right? Yeah, just a weird dream. Still, seeing flashes of a crying Gene strangling him to death did leave some haunting feelings.
"Do you mind some company?" He asked as he jogged forward.

Gene's eyes sprang open to the size of dinner plates as soon as she heard his drawl. He was here, on the rooftop, with her during sunset. Oh Jack, did the fates enjoy teasing her. Breathe, Gene, breathe even though you didn't need to. Play it cool, don't be dumb. She could do this, just...don't say anything stupid.
"Oh, Mot!" She turned around, smiling and returning his wave. "I'd love some company, actually. It was just starting to get a little lonesome up here."
Okay, that was good. She sighed inwardly, begging the knot in her stomach to undo itself. It was just Mot, the Reaper she adored. No big deal, nope.
"Do you...uh, how've you been?" She chirped, light blue blush already trickling down her earlobes.

Mot grinned wider, slowing down now that he was nearby. He leaned against a jagged, gothic iron railing that kept wandering students from falling off the roof top, pulling out the small bag of jerky.
"I've been well. Other than a terribly haunting dream the other night." He chuckled and pulled out a strip of jerky. "Its hard enough for me to sleep let alone something so vivid scaring me witless."
"How have you been fairing Gene?"

Her brow creased in concern, giving Mot a look that questioned why he was having trouble sleeping. If he was working out regularly, then he should be falling asleep just fine, thanks to exhaustion.
"Nightmares? What kind of nightmare?" It was certainly concerning - if Mot go no sleep, he certainly wouldn't be able to work out, which mean he wouldn't meet the requirements for being a boogey. Though, his chest was looking a little broader...
"I've been good, just been thinking a lot lately." She ruffled her hair a little, smiling bashfully. Thinking about him, of course. Would he catch that, though?

"It was less a nightmare and more... hm.. well I suppose a mix of a dream and nightmare. I don't remember feeling scared in it, but when I woke up I felt.. heavy?" Like the weight of someone's emotions had been cast upon him. "But a dream is just a dream. I've had much worse nightmares in the past."
His insomnia was certainly not as constant as it once had been, but it did tend to come around once in a while every so often. It didn't stop him from training. Mot hadn't really noticed yet that his work was paying off, the change so gradual he simply missed it. It wouldn't be too long before he realized his slim shirts were not fitting as loosely as they once did.
"Is there something on your mind? We're alone up here, so why not talk to me? I like listening." He smiled fondly.

Hm, that was interesting. He woke up feeling heavy? There was no way that Mot, the slowly growing twig, could feel heavy. She actually smiled at the little joke she'd thought of, but quickly snapped back to attention.
Well...he was on her mind, certainly. How would she say that, though? He was offering to listen and she really wanted to tell him...
Ugh, may as well. She scooted over, patting the empty space next to her.
"Well...I'd rather you sit down. This may take a while."

Oh, was it story time? Well, okay! Mot nodded with a smile and had himself a sit down next to Gene, turning himself just enough so he could look at her while she spoke.
Chewing lightly on some jerky, he waved a hand in a flourished gesture for her to talk. He'd be your wall, Gene. Or your stuffed toy or whatever ghouls used to talk things out at.

She actually talked to her pets most of the time Mot, but nice try. If you bought her some kind of plushie, she'd talk to that. Actually - if this worked out the way she wanted it to, she would talk to you about everything. They'd just have to see.
Turning slightly to make facing him just a bit easier, she suddenly wished she'd brought a mug or tumbler with her up to the roof. Something to grasp would make this slightly easier. Instead she opted to clasp both hand together and put them in her lap.
"Well...honestly is the best policy, as they say." A nervous smile painted her lips as a cerulean blush painted her face. "You've been on my mind a lot, really. Let's just say... I had a dream too. It was about you, along with a few other people... Riley, Shun, Levi, Xiu, a few students I've seen in passing and some I've never actually met before. Was your dream like that?" She leaned forward a little, smile faltering with nervousness. If it was, then...well, he would know about her tears for him.

She thought about him? Mot was flattered, but curious. What was it about him that made her think of him often?
Mot gasped lightly, leaning forward as she did. "I had the same dream! Did.. do you think everyone else did too?" Maybe this was a much bigger situation.
"Wait... so then.." The tears. The sad goodbye. Those came back too. Mot had wondered why he'd dream about Gene in such a way.. but if this was some incident from a higher power..? Maybe it had really happened. Stranger things have happened.
"You said a lot of really nice things about me in that dream.." He managed to say, but remembered it was Gene that was trying to get something off her chest. "So.. is the dream why.. I'm on your mind?"

Gene smiled sheepishly as Mot brought up the things she'd said in that other universe, blush overtaking her entire face now. She'd meant every single one of those things, of course, but she knew that Mot was going to fade away...
Wait, then how did this Mot remember things?
"Well...Yes. But let's say it wasn't exactly a dream, hm? Let's say it all actually happened, but you weren't...you?" She gave a frustrated sigh. This was all really complex to explain, and she didn't even know the full details.
"Remember how Xiu went into a coma? Well, some of us overheard Arel mumbling and grumbling about finding Medea to get to the heart of this, so we followed along. I guess a few other students fell into a coma too, since a whole group of us were at Medea's tent by the time we got there." She cleared her throat, wringing her hands a little. This is where it all got a little confusing. "Medea said that something - I'm not even quite sure what it is, but something was taking the people we knew, and placing them in this other dimension, and feeding off of them. The people taken were Kings in that world, and their kingdoms were made of their memories - albeit a little warped. Medea sent us into that realm to inhabit the versions of ourselves that the Kings created, and from there we sabotaged the whole thing." That was the quick and dirty of it, anyway. Hopefully Mot would understand, and if he needed clarification, she was sure he'd ask.
"Basically...I killed that version of you, thinking that it would end his existence. I didn't want to see someone that looked and acted like you live a lie...but he came back. Again and again, he would come back. I don't quite know why - it happened when we killed the fake Xiu, too."
There were a few beats of silence, before Gene finally sighed. She wanted to just shift into some sort of mouse and scurry away; she didn't want to deal with the nerves and the stress and all the emotions. Why was liking a boil so hard?
"I...didn't know why at the time, but I wanted to protect you in any way I could. I think I've sorted it out now, though."

As Gene explained, everything about that dream became much more clear. The memories of the figment only went so far into the details, and the nature of his existence now made sense too. Of course it figured Medea was somehow involved...
So they'd had him killed over and over in an attempt to save him? It was.. thoughtful. while being on the receiving end had been its own brand of misery, to see someone you cared about be put through so much was just as bad.
She wanted to protect him? Mot didn't know until this dream that she felt so strongly. After all, all they ever did together was drink coffee. And the occasional water gun fight in a toy store. To know she would be there, and do what needed to be done because she cared? It was so heart warming. Being able to do that was a difficult thing, to put her feelings on the back burner for the greater good. It was something he often lacked the strength to do.
"Sorted it out?" Mot echoed, feeling that Gene had more to say even still.

Gene looked him in the eyes for a few seconds, before looking back to the ground. Really, this shouldn't be so hard. She'd been able to tell Mort that she liked him... so why not Mot?
Okay, on the count of three. She could totally do this.
One.
What if he didn't like her back? He had every right to not, but what if this just made everything weird? What if he stopped hanging out with her? That would be awful.
Two.
Did she really want to do this? What if she just let sleeping dogs lie, and moved on? No, that would just be worse. She didn't want to live in a constant question of 'what if?'
Three.
"I really like you, Mot." It was a whisper pressed through thin lips, cerulean blush deepening to a shade of sapphire and silver eyes locked onto terra cotta.

At first, Mot was about to chuckle and say that he liked her too. But then he remembered the context. The build up.
Oh.. it was.. THAT sort of like.
Mot's eyes locked on to Gene's, his pale face going pink. Wow. She liked him? It.. made him feel really warm inside. He'd not had a shred of romantic musings since breaking up with Hel. Not a one. It had been as if romance died from his heart. Yet here was a pretty fantastic and quirky, positive ghoul saying she liked him that way.
It restarted the rusty cogs in his heart.
The reaper smiled bashfully, rubbing the back of his neck. "Wow.. I didn't know you felt that way. I'm really flattered."
How should he answer her feelings? He'd not seen her in a romantic light before, but after hearing her say that? Well, little details about her seemed a little louder. Wait.. was that a new hair cut? How did he not see that before? She was always cute, but now..
There was only one way to find out if he liked her in that way.
"Well.. would you like to go out? I mean.. I already think you're fun and great to talk to. You make me feel at ease and comfortable. I don't know if my feelings can match yours, but I'd like to try." He gave a hopeful smile, warm and caring. "If its you, then I honestly would love to."

A happy, relaxed smile made its way onto Gene's lips, spreading slowly until it reached both cheeks, mouth even opening a little in sheer joy. He hadn't said no, he wasn't going to make things awkward. In fact, he wanted to give it a try! She was the happiest ghoul in the school at that moment, going so far as to wrap her arms gently around Mot in a quick, giggly hug.
"I would love it!" She broke the hug, gazing into his eyes with sheer joy and hope, smile beaming like the rays of the pumpkin sun. He was willing to give it a shot, and that meant the world to her.
"What should we do? I mean, obviously coffee, but...a movie? Another watergun fight? It's up to you, really." She asked, playing with her hair a little bit.
