Rush of wind, the deafening pound of his heart on his chest, the thrill of the hunt, closing in on his prey --- it was all he needed in this world.

He could only hear the strong collision of his hooves colliding with the dirt ground, the splash of the murky shallow water as he ran swiftly, his target so clearly in view-- it was running away from him, scared, knowing that there was a hunter, and it was his prey.

It was going to die.

Landslide's expression was almost placid, unaware of anything in this world except that his prey was right in front of him and he was going to take his victory. Crash was right above him, soaring high and not letting the creature out of his sight, graceful yet vicious in its duty to his master, and Climb, his faithful rox right beside him, small yet able, moving his small legs to match the swift buck.

Except, the unfortunate boar-child wasn't being chased by just one hunter; it had two hungry beasts to contend with.

The gryphon that dive-bombed seem to come straight out of the very trees, purposely crashing into the swamp slightly to the right of the prey, splashing the boar and startling it to the left, which is where the creature's partner was already barreling towards it. Whereas the natural colored male was placid and confident, the female that charged in from the side was all power in motion and focus, ears upright and alert in case her prey wanted to make an escape. Nothing escaped Winter. It just didn't happen.

And she, with eyes of ember and teeth that snapped together with precision, purposely took a small tuft of fur from the back of the boar's leg, scaring it violently in the direction she wanted it to go. Frostbite was already airborne, flying much lower than the hawk, beneath the tree branches that the creature was spooked under. Winter didn't even give the other hunter a backwards glance before she was after it like a shot, the sun dappling her hide through the tree boughs and making her little more than a ghost as she closed in.

The sudden disturbance startled him just a little, dark eyes widening for a second at the being that appeared in front of him. Who was this intruder who dared to make their way into his hunt? His.

But his concentration was not to be broken anymore, the growled under his breath, his two companions feeling his displeasure but more importantly how his blood boiled even further with this competition, the exhilaration of the hunt that got even more difficult. A challenge. And he loved challenges.

His eagle let out a high pitched sound as it descended upon the hawk. Even Crash inherited that fierce spirit of his master, and that will that he just wasn't allowed to lose. That he would absolutely fight -- and fight he did, flying dangerously close to the other creature.

Landslide was also speeding up, the doe was probably more graceful than he but his heavy steps dug into the crushed ice underneath their hooves, finally managing to catch up to this stranger yet also not giving her even one glance.

Yet still, she paid him no mind, as though truly, he wasn't there at all -- not even a threat to her hunt. Winter turned sharply and suddenly, the only acknowledgement of him existing at all being that she jumped over him, hooves tucked neatly against her belly, and she was off again, veering to the right as Frostbite again crashed to the left of the boar. She knew there was a sharp decline near by and she'd have no problems scaring it to death if that's what she had to do.

There was a problem, though: even though she wasn't paying attention to the buck, she was aware of him, and his ability to keep up with her was a small distraction. It was enough of one, however, because as she bolted towards the boar, the cliffside was suddenly there, much sooner than she'd anticipated, the high second cliff above looming over and casting a disorientating shadow. The boar had turned in sharply towards the inner cliff so as to not fall to its death off the more immediate danger, and as such, she found her momentum forward was too great to flip around to follow, her hooves skidding expertly to a stop near the cliff. Small chunks of rock and dust whirled off the edge, but it would be too late, she knew; the loss of her speed would be loss of prey, and unless the buck realized the prey had moved, they'd both go hungry.

And he was obviously alert with the does actions but not at all distracting him from his own goal. Though the fact that she jumped over him made him a little more intent on seeing her form, though rather irritated with it, he found it impressive. She was in front of him but Landslide paid no heed to it, he was familiar with this particular area, he let her run in front of him, Climb and Crash running steadily at his pace and like him, had their eyes on the prey.

The sudden cliff in their way did surprise him but he didn't slow down. And just before the crack of the cliff he jumped, his front hooves crashing on the dirt terrain and regaining his composure almost immediately as he turned his heels, grey eyes still following the boar from the other side. And he almost forgot that the bright doe was there earlier as nothing separated him and the wild boar except the crack of earth.

Crash was right there above him, Climb on the other side and still following the boars run. And with a bend of his knees he leapt again to the other side, this time almost barely managing to do it, his front legs pulling him up from a horrible death. The boar turned again, slowing slightly from that, its little strong legs still enduring but the hunter saw this as an opportunity. With the slight slow of speed, Landslide ran faster and once he was at the right distance he pounced on the poor creature, its struggling squeal a victory song for the buck.

And just like that, the hunt was over.

Frostbite glided in to land neatly next to his partner, looking to where the fresh kill could be smelled. The doe glanced to her partner in turn, flicking her tail; yes, they were hungry, but...

Winter was impressed.

She watched the last breath leave the boar before she fixed her fiery gaze on the hunter that had out-maneuvered her. He was handsome, splashed in the fresh blood of the beast and in the glow of his victory -- and for that moment, she paused, watching him...intent to remember his face, just in case their hunting grounds crossed again.

And it was a bloody mess, the boar dead, lifted by his strong jaw, a pool of red spreading on the once pristine white snow. He was thrilled, the adrenaline still alive in his bones.

Crash landed on a rock nearby, and Climb obediently walked behind his master, the buck turning back and taking himself towards the brighter doe, for what? He didn't exactly know but somehow he couldn't walk away, not after what he had seen she could do. He left his catch on where he had taken its life, much more curious about the unexpected huntress.

And for his approach, she sneered at him, flaming-orange eyes narrowed. She wasn't interested in playing nice or introductions, and if he wanted a friendly chat, he'd be sorely disappointed.

Instead, she flicked her tail and her posture became somewhat more relaxed; the doe turned her head slightly, a small invitation to her long, lean neck. Frostbite immediately knew what Winter was doing and - not caring for the act of courtship with an empty belly - took to the sky and veered off to find their next hunt. If she had her way, she'd need the food to keep up her energy after seducing the buck.

And seduce, she was intent to do. When he was close enough, she extended her muzzle to him just enough to run the white of her face over his bloody maw, smearing her cheek with the vitae. She continued through with the motion, her smaller body beneath his chin, her tail flicking upwards to swat him lightly on the neck.

He could eat, or he could be the victor; it was his choice.

His expression was unmoving when she did that motion, though his body tensed for a moment in time, dim eyes eying her white coat. This was when his two other companions scampered away for this time, sensing that they would just be an unwelcome guest in this process.

The buck relaxed when he felt her cheek against his, the red of the hunt shared on their muzzles now, he couldn't help but close his eyes and let out a low growl, terribly interested and not afraid to show it.

And his mouth nudged at her, very well making his choice.

Their business would be concluded while the boar's flesh was still warm, the blood now sticky and matted but still fresh.

No words needed to fill the space between them, she having taken what she wanted from him. Winter shook out her mane, now blood spattered from his grip but certainly welcome, casting her fiery gaze to him. She'd taken from some before but it was the first time she'd felt like her attention was earned. If she were to bear his children, it would certainly be a great tribute to the MotherFather, Her two hunters bringing on another generation of like-minded kin. Winter shared her thoughts with the earthen male with another rub of her cheek along his dark fur, sharing her scent, and for the moment, marking him as having been hers for the day. If he wanted to find her again, he'd know which scent to follow, at least.

She was quite hungry then and, contently surrounded by the scent of blood from the kill and his own musky fur, she was brave - cocky, even - enough to round the fallen beast and steal a sizable hunk of food from the back haunch, not brazen enough to spill the innards but certainly arrogant enough to take what wasn't hers. Bright eyes challenged the theft and, before they could face off, Frostbite sounded in the distance, calling to her. The hunt was on again.

Winter spared him little more than a backwards glance before she sprang off of the boar and back into the forest, disappearing between thick fronds as though she were never there at all.

It was never really like anything the buck had experienced, yes he had relations before but the attraction wasn’t as intense as this, admiring the strength behind the doe’s actions and her will.

And he was quiet as well with his dull grey eyes following the lighter doe, his tail curled up contentedly under him as he watched her stand up, nothing had changed, she still had that fierce demeanor and he still deeply respected her for that. With a low growl he returned the touch, gentle and sweet – unlike the two kin but it was a message he wanted to get across to her. The two really did not need any words.

He stood as she took his kill, his expression a little more stern as he looked upon her, she /was/ cocky, but that wasn’t exactly a bad thing in Landslide’s mind. Their eyes met for a moment then, he started to walk towards her before her attention was taken by her companion. He took a few more quick steps before she sprinted off, disappointed by the fleeting doe. But he knew the call of the hunt --- and he knew it well and he understood. And with his kill back in his sight he let himself smile a little, it was certainly a victorious day.
