Note: This RP takes place roughly two months before the events of the Rinaul Mountains metaplot.

The day started like any other, Raina rose to the sun rising and shining light through her bedroom window. She got up, showered, dressed, cooked breakfast for herself and her pokemon, and then set out to the outskirts of Katarina for some battle training. Amaryllis, Ayirwen, Branimir and Imbra all needed quite a bit of training since they had been having a good long rest without much of anything to keep them in shape.

Hours passed with the pokemon battling in various pairings before Raina declared it was time for lunch. Pulling out four bowls of specialized pokemon food she set them in front of her pokemon and pulled out a sandwich for herself. During the quiet that followed she heard some strange sounds like gears grinding and a squeaking as though a machine needed some oil. Her curiosity got the better of her and once she and her pokemon had finished eating she called all of them back to their balls except for Amaryllis, her Raichu.

Moving quickly Raina headed in the direction the sounds were coming from. Amaryllis stayed right beside her stopping every so often to sniff the air and make sure nothing was amiss. As they crested a hill Raina saw an old warehouse that she had always assumed was abandoned but that was obviously not the case. There was steam rising from the stacks on the roof and quite a few people seemed to be moving around outside the building. Even more curious now she headed down the hill to get a better look. As she got closer she realized the people were wearing Team Rocket uniforms and she frowned. Perhaps this wasn't something she should get involved in, at least, not on her own. Quickly she motioned for Amaryllis to go back and they headed back to town.

Once they made it home safely Raina sat down and tried to figure out what to do. She could call the police but there was no guarantee they would believe her, or that they wouldn't be tricked by Team Rocket. Her next thought was that she could check it out. Not alone of course, but with her best friend Cadence, surely the other woman would come with her. They were like sisters. A quick phone call assured her that Cadence would be willing to come with her and check things out after all, the other girl was just as curious if not more than Raina herself.

--------The Next Evening-------

Cadence had arrived earlier in the day with Torryn to help prepare for Operation Infiltration as she and Raina were jokingly calling it now. She was sure that whatever Team Rocket was up to it wasn't good and she was eager to help her best friend put a stop to it.

As the sun began to set both girls left the house heading for the warehouse Raina had found the day before. The reached the hill overlooking the building just as the sun finished setting, luckily there was a large bright moon hanging overhead to light their way as they crept down the hillside and looked for a way into the building. The windows were no use as they were too high off the ground but as they came around to the rear entrance they found the door propped open.

Quickly the girls entered the warehouse and waited for their eyes to adjust to the lighting. It appeared they were in a lobby of sorts, just one large desk with a computer and a whole slew of cameras fixed around the room. "Raina... why would Team Rocket need a lobby in a warehouse?" Cadence asked suddenly feeling as though this might be more than just a place to store excess goods.

Raina shrugged in response to the question. "No idea, but we should check things out, if there are this many security cameras they must be really interested in who comes and goes. The only reason anyone would care that much is if they had something important to hide." staying close to the wall Raina lead the way to the stairs and they headed up to the second floor. Upon reaching the landing her heart stopped and her stomach churned. Cages upon cages of pokemon stacked floor to ceiling greeted her and she was instantly furious. How could anyone do this to pokemon?

Cadence was sick to her stomach as well, her heart went out to all of the pokemon that were in the room, these conditions were horrid. It didn't look like any of the pokemon had seen the outside of this warehouse in quite awhile, most of them were dirty and had matted fur. Their eyes were dull, nearly lifeless. Though some of them stirred at the appearance of the two trainers, most of them didn't show any sign of knowing they were there. Walking to the nearest cage Cadence tried to unlock it using one of her bobby pins. "What do you think they're doing with all these pokemon? They can't just be keeping them locked up for no reason... can they?"

Raina didn't have an answer for her friend but she too had moved to one of the cages trying to undo the lock. If they could free some of the pokemon maybe they could get a clue about what exactly was going on here.

Genesis silently cursed as she pedaled her way to the building. It was dark and she was cold and tired. She had just been about to go to bed when a higher-up texted her a mission to get to. A mission that had started over a day ago. She seethed. If she got her a** busted for something that wasn't even her fault, heads would roll. As it was, she was doing what she could to make up for the other's incompetence. She'd, erm, "borrowed" a nearby bike and was making her way over as quickly as she could.

Erebos ran along nearby. His trainer's pace was one he could easily hold and he alternated between going ahead of Genesis to scout the area and slowing down to ensure she was on the right track. He knew his trainer could take care of herself but, admittedly, he was a tad worried. They had been given such short notice that she'd been unable to bring any of her other Pokémon with her, seeing as she allowed them to roam free whenever she didn't need them. She hadn't had time to collect them all, but had left a message for each to catch up as soon as they could. Only Erebos could follow. Unsurprising, really. He never left her side.

Genesis bit back an annoyed groan when she finally reached the temporary base near the building. She had been sent to overlook a group of Trainees and ensure their work was going well, and already she could spot the numerous mistakes they had made. There was no one out guarding the building, and no attempt seemed to have been made to hide what was going on inside of it. Heck, the Trainees weren't even disguised.

"Back off," she growled, with an authority that demanded she be obeyed. She'd come dressed as a traveler, with even a wig and contacts to hide her features, and the Trainees that were still awake had mistaken her for an intruder. It was only natural, then, that they allowed the real intruders to get inside the building without even realizing it.

After she was briefed on the mission's status, she headed towards the building itself. She'd considered bringing the Trainees with her to teach them how to do their jobs properly, but in the end, decided to let them off for the night. It wasn't their fault they hadn't been assigned a Grunt to accompany them from the first, after all, and they were new to the job. And she was sure they would be punished back at base, anyway.

Just as she reached the door, Erebos stopped her. Noiselessly, he peeled back his lips, and his fangs gleamed in the bright moonlight. His eyes were hard, his ears pricked forward: he was telling her there were people inside already, and it wasn't Rockets.

Genesis narrowed her eyes at the information, then signaled him to hide nearby. She hitched her bag up, falling into her disguise and playing the part of a lone traveler in need of a place to rest. Assuming the countenance of a curious passerby, she stepped in without any attempt at concealing herself.

"Hello?"

Cadence frowned as she realized that there was no way they were unlocking these cages without the keys. The pokemon would have to wait, for now, while they turned their search elsewhere. "Raina, do you think they would leave the keys in that desk downstairs?"

Raina had given up on the cages as well and had been scouting the room for keys or any other doors, the only way out was the stairway they had come up and there were no keys in here. "Couldn't hurt to look." she stated as she headed back to the stairs. She stopped halfway down when a voice reached her. Casting a glance over her shoulder at Cadence she silently asked "what should we do?" her friend merely shrugged and moved around her so she was in front.

Cadence made it the rest of the way down the stairs and peeked around the corner to see who had spoken. When all she saw was a woman in traveling gear she relaxed a bit and stepped out into the open. "What are you doing here miss? This really isn't a place for someone to stop in. You need to leave before anyone else sees you."

Raina came up beside Cadence, her hand reaching for Branimir's pokeball. She couldn't explain it but she felt uneasy around this girl, as though things weren't what they appeared.

"Oh," Genesis said simply, appearing disappointed and distressed. "Do you know where I can find the nearest town? My Pokémon got hurt in a battle and I couldn't find any berries outside..."

She bit her lip, then hesitantly asked, "Would any of you have a Potion I could buy? Please, I really need it."

Cadence felt a twinge of sympathy, she knew how it felt to have your pokemon injured and be unable to help it. She rummaged through her bag and pulled out a few Oran berries. "I don't have any potions but these should help a bit. Katarina is only about 20 minutes northwest of here. The pokemon center is near the center of the city and should be able to help your pokemon and give you a place to rest." She handed over the berries and then motioned for the girl to leave, the longer they stood around in the open the better chance there was that someone would see them.

Raina frowned as her friend handed over some berries. She knew her friend was kind-hearted and could never turn away from helping a pokemon in need but there was something about the other girl that didn't add up. "Where is your pokemon? Maybe I can help. I've been a trainer for quite awhile and I know how to do most first aid on my own." Raina didn't really want to help the woman but she was determined to get to the bottom of the situation. She stared at the other woman, her eyes hard, calculating. It was obvious that she didn't trust the other trainer.

"I can't thank you two enough," Genesis said warmly, accepting the help. It was dark, but there was enough visible light for her to go by, and she quickly assessed that only the two trainers were present. It was true it'd be tricky going against both with only one of her Pokémon, but she was confident in her abilities and in her Lucario's.

"They're right here," she said, turning to retrieve something from her belt. As she did so, a loud scuffle could be heard in the bushes behind them where Erebos hid. She started -- then, taking the concealed blade from her belt, the true object she'd been meaning to get, she slashed at the two while she hoped they would be distracted from the noise.

Cadence had walked past the other trainer towards the desk after handing her the berries and realizing that Raina was going to take a bit more time. She was looking through the drawers when the rustling noise reached her and she looked up and out the doorway. Reaching for her pokeball she pondered over whether she should let Torryn out to investigate or not.

Raina waited for the other woman to bring out her pokemon so she could have a look. She was suspicious but if the woman's pokemon was hurt she felt obligated to help. It wasn't until she heard the rustling that she took her eyes off the other trainer and was rewarded with a cut on her left arm. She jumped back with a pained hiss and glared at the other woman. Quickly she grasped the pokeball that her hand was resting on and she tossed it. In a flash of red light an arcanine was revealed.

"Branimir use Protect!" she called and watched as a veil appeared around her and her arcanine. Now that that was taken care of she tried to think of anything she had that could be used as a weapon but she didn't have anything with her except a pocket knife. Looking around she spied an old rusty pipe laying on the ground. It was only about a foot long but it would have to do. Quickly she ran over and picked it up then spun around to face her attacker. "So, you aren't just a random traveler after all. I knew there was something off about you. What are you really doing here?"

Upon hearing the commotion behind her Cadence spun around to see Raina advancing on the other woman, a pipe clasped tightly in her hands and Branimir crouching down and snarling at the woman. Confused but driven by a need to protect her friend she grasped her own pokeball and released Torryn. "Torryn see if there is anyone else around. The last thing we need is to get surrounded."

The pidgeotto was quick to act and took to scouting the inside of the building, finding no one else he exited through the doorway and began to make a lap around the perimeter. Once he was gone Cadence ran towards Raina and the other trainer, with any luck she would be able to tackle the stranger and they would get out of here without any further complications.

Feh, Genesis had hoped that by pretending she'd been startled, too, she'd have lowered the trainer's guard enough to deal with her swiftly. Alas, a bleeding arm was the only reward for her efforts, but not for long.

She lunged again, but her attack was cut short by the Arcanin's Protect. Scowling, she backed away from its range, not even bothering to respond to its trainer.

There was no way Genesis would be able to take on a Pokémon alone, especially one as large and powerful as the Arcanine before her now. Erebos leapt out from his place behind the bushes to rush to her aid. The shadows beneath his form seemed to darken, and suddenly, a blast of dark energy emitted from it in an all-encompassing pulse, going after both the Pidgeotto and the Arcanine.

Should we do an actual battle thread for Branimir vs. Erebos?

Cadence missed her mark and sprawled on the ground when Genesis moved to attack Raina. Quickly she got back on her feet, dusting off her knees and hands. They were scraped up but she would be fine. The sound of pawsteps and fluttering wings caused her to turn her attention and she did so just in time to see Torryn get caught in the blast from the lucario.

He fell to the floor, dazed, and landed hard on his wing. With a pained cry he struggled to get back up but it was obvious to Cadence that his wing was broken. She grabbed his pokeball and returned him, clipping the ball back on her belt. "I'm so sorry Torryn!" she murmured as she realized that she had been careless in sending him out on his own. Lost in a hazy place in her mind, she momentarily forgot about everything as she came to terms with the idea that her pokemon was severely injured and it was her fault.

Raina on the other hand was shielded from the blast by Branimir's protection. It was shattered by the force of the blow and left them open to attack once again. "Oh, there's your pokemon, he looks just fine to me." she bit out. Her arm was still bleeding and she was beginning to realize the cut was deeper than she had originally thought. She looked up to Branimir and patted his leg. "Trap them with a fire spin buddy."

Branimir was quick to obey the command. Opening his mouth a string of flames was unleashed and formed a ring around the lucario and it's trainer.

((Yes, please. >w> <3 Any prefs on who sets up?))

Genesis only scowled in reply to Raina. Although she could vary her voice well, she didn't trust herself to keep up the original pitch she'd used while in the heat of battle, and she didn't want to give away her true voice on accident.

She frowned when Cadence fell, and attempted to drive Raina back to strike the other trainer while she was still dazed, but the Arcanine quickly kept her in check.

Erebos tilted an ear towards the Pidgeotto's squawking. It would attract attention, and he was about to silence it permanently before it had safely been retrieved into its Poké Ball. Feh.

He used his own Protect to render the Fire Spin void and glared at the Arcanine. He drew his lips back, exposing his fangs and inviting the other to a fight.

I'm assuming we're using just base stats? If not I can change the first post. Branimir should have some perks but I haven't applied for them yet cause I just got all his old battles dug up. Battle Here

Cadence was still out of it, she vaguely noted fire and warmth and then the almost immediate lack thereof but she was still too self absorbed to really register what was happening around her. So much for helping her best friend.

Raina frowned when the lucario countered with a protect of it's own. How... irritating. Seeing that the lucario looked up for a fight she stroked Branimir's leg and nodded giving him the go ahead to let the lucario have it. Meanwhile she grasped the pipe tight in her hands once more and got ready to make a move once the lucario was preoccupied.

She saw Cadence over her opponents shoulder and noticed she was on the verge of tears but she didn't have time to help her friend now, she had to deal with the trainer who had interrupted their mission first.

Branimir returned the lucario's challenge with a snarl of his own. His fangs glinted in the lights of the warehouse and he lowered himself to a crouch, poised to spring into action. Raina had given him the go ahead to fend for himself and that meant there was nothing to stop him from acting on instinct.

((Looks good to me! Thank you so much! x3 Tag in the battle!
And do we have them fight alongside the battle, or should we finish the battle first?))

Cadence's vulnerability was almost maddening. If Genesis had brought a long-ranged weapon with her, at least one of the trainers would surely be down by now. As it was, however, she was simply glad to see she could safely focus on just one trainer.

She glanced at Erebos as their battle initiated, but trusted him to fight on his own and returned her attention to her own fight. She hoped the battle would be over soon -- Erebos was the only Pokémon with her, and she didn't know how many more the others had. The safest bet was to take out the trainers ASAP.

She lunged again.

Erebos gladly conceded to the battle and awaited the Arcanine's move.

I think having the trainers battle while the pokemon are battling gives Genesis a better chance of taking Raina down.

Raina managed to parry the attack with her pipe. Backstepping she took up a batter's stance and then stepped forward as she swung. Her goal was to hit the other trainer in the torso but any hit that landed would be ok with her. Unfortunately as she swung she felt a sharp pain in her arm which drew her attention to the fact that her bleeding had gotten worse. She really should try to bandage it and apply pressure but she didn't have the time.

Cadence finally came around and took in her surroundings. Raina was battling with the other trainer and she was injured. Branimir was fighting with a Lucario, and she, well, she had a set of keys. Feeling that she wouldn't be much use in hand to hand combat she raced for the staircase and flung herself upstairs. Maybe if she could release some pokemon they could help Raina or at least cause a distraction so they could escape.

((All righty! 8D))

Genesis jumped back quickly, but it wasn't enough. Adrenaline coursed through her, and she knew in a fraction of a second that she wouldn't be able to dodge the pipe's range in time. She blocked the blow with her left hand, wincing as her fingers were crushed, but using them all the same. Gripping the pipe hard, she threw the weight on her left arm back as she lashed forward with her right, using the force of her spin to add power to the attack.

Cadence made it upstairs and began unlocking cages. The pokemon were eager to be free but leery of the trainer and while some bolted for freedom others shrank back in their cages snarling, hissing and snapping at her. Amongst the freed pokemon were various common species and even some uncommon and rares. Continuing work on the cages Cadence hoped the pokemon running down the stairs would interrupt the fighting going on long enough for Raina to escape.

Raina hadn't counted on Genesis grabbing the pole and was thrown off balance, falling into her when she tugged it back. A fist collided with the side of her face and snapped her head to the side. Gritting her teeth Raina shook her head to clear away the spots that danced in her vision and she let go of the pole jumping back from her opponent. Thinking over her options she moved in again and feigned a left hook, quickly shifting gears and throwing a high kick with her right leg. "Whatever Team Rocket is doing here, you won't get away with it."
