Mkate felt like he had matured a lot more since the war. The truth was that he was still a bull-headed idiot, though he didn't rush into trouble anymore looking for glory. He still wasn't very good at saying the right things, and offending more lions than he helped. He didn't realize that there were some lions who rolled their eyes behind his back, or did their best to avoid him. Mkate was just...a little too dense to really look at the world that existed outside of his family. Family came first, and after the dressing down that Angavu gave him, he cared more about them than whatever social standing he had in the pride. Today, though, he was sniffing around for one of his half-siblings. Their mother hadn't seen her all day, and Mkate had been sent out to make sure that she was ok. Really, everyone was an adult, why did he have to go out and look? When they were younger, being the older brother was awesome, but now it was a bit of a chore. Blah.

Mnanaa was not having a very good day so far. She had been a part of the Pridelands for long enough now she was, for the most part, comfortable. But she still had trouble being openly social sometimes and today was one of those days. She'd started her day intending to join a hunting party but half way there she'd started dragging her feet and now she was completely off track. She wasn't even going to any typical meeting points now, she was just wandering.
Nobody seemed to be paying any special attention to her wandering and she didn't pay any attention to any passersby, they all seemed to be on their way somewhere.. until a somewhat bored looking lion wandered by, looking almost lost. And she couldn't help but stop and stare.

"Ugggh," Mkate grumped, his bright blue eyes peeking through his bangs. He really wasn't up to doing this, especially because she would probably just emerge back at their den this evening. Mother was such a worrier - pfft.
He was used to ignoring a lot of the other lions around him, but he couldn't help but realize that someone was looking at him. Staring at him...awkwardly? He had glanced over her, but then he looked again. "Huh?"
He stared back for a moment, wondering if she was just spacing out. "Uh, are you ok?" he asked carefully, knowing how good he was at inadvertently offending others (especially females).

She didn't really realize he was staring back at her until it was too late and when he asked if she was OK she started. She smiled sheepishly but couldn't find her voice fast enough, either. Side effect of feeling awkward, she decided.
"Y-yes," she stammered finally, "I'm fine- are you OK?"
Unable to decide if he seemed more to be looking for something or like he was lost, Mnanaa decided to cut herself off there and not ask directly.

Mkate was honestly a little surprised that she said anything back to her, but at least this was something....right?
"Yeah," he said with a bit of a grumble. "Looking for a sister that probably doesn't want to be found." It was too easy to disappear in a pride that had a massive population. Sure, he could ask people to look for a brown lioness, but....that was like half the pride.
Which made him realize that the female he was talking to was green. A soft green. She'd be a lot easier to find again than his sister.
"But, being an adult and all....can't blame her," he finally tacked on, awkwardly.

"O-oh?"
He looked old enough that it didn't have to be a young sister that he was looking for-- and then he added that his sister was in fact an adult and he couldn't blame her for trying to hide away. If someone in her family was going to be looking for her, she probably did have a reason to hide. Except he didn't look very happy about it, it mustn't be his idea.
"Then why are you looking?" she asked, surprising herself by actually asking the obvious question.

Mkate's eyes rolled. "My mother is worried, and she's having fun making the rest of the family worry. Sometimes I wish I could get away from them," he grumbled, knowing that it was a lie. He was a mama's boy, but sometimes he didn't understand how she'd let herself worry so much. Perhaps she had cared more for their father than his own, but he didn't really feel bitter about that. Being the oldest, and the first, Mkate knew that she depended on his help more than his younger siblings.
"So, here I am, making....something you could call effort. Close to dragging my paws, at least."

Mnanaa perked up at his wish to get away from his family. She had gotten away from her family but it wasn't under happy circumstances, she hadn't even really claimed her independence for herself- that had come secondary to her pride's dissolution. Sometimes she was glad to be free but other times she missed her family, even if it came with complications.
In any case, she wouldn't have been able to say no to her mother, even if she didn't agree with her.
"Oh," she said, hesitating before continuing, "Did you need some help?"

Mkate was a little surprised that she was like okbye. More than a little surprised. Well, maybe she was just overly nice, which wasn't a bad thing. He just hoped that he wasn't taking advantage of the fact that she was offering to help.
"Um, well. If it wouldn't keep you from anything, I suppose so. She looks a lot like me, with shoulder spots and everything. Just a lot more white, like socks and stuff...." well, she didn't have sock markings, but he was pretty sure she'd know what she meant.
"I-I mean, you don't have to look really hard. Just...keep an eye out?"

She looked Mkate up and down trying to picture him with more white. His fur was unfortunately commonly colored, though the yellow on his shoulder and his bright blue eyes stood out well enough.. It seemed like an impossible task for a stranger but she couldn't say that now.
"What's her name?" she asked, then, realizing she didn't know his, "What's your name?"

Mkate laughed. "Oh, sorry! I'm Mkate, and my sister is Nyeupe'Mguu. I'm sure she's just sunning somewhere futher from the group....or something...I'm not that worried about her, but a mother's wishes must be fulfilled," he sighed as he shook his head.
....hm. "Hey, what's your name? So I can tell you later if she's found so you don't have to waste your time."

She smiled at his reluctant insistence that mother's wishes must be fulfilled. Some things were the same wherever you were, respect for your elders- your parents in particular- was generally important. It made her miss her own a little more.
"Mnanaa," she introduced herself shyly, "It's nice to meet you, Mkate. I'd be happy to keep an eye out for your sister, might be easier with more eyes looking."

Hm. "Pretty name," he said with a nod. "Alright, awesome! I think it'll be a lot more helpful, especially with you being a girl. Er. Uh. I mean, since you might think of places to look that I might not..." Good job, Mkate, state the obvious. Idiot.
"Well, I'll hopefully meet up with you soon, yeah? Just to let you know how the search goes. Thanks, Mnamaa!"

"Th-thank you," she stammered, suddenly feeling shy again. She was doing so well so far if only because it was a very simple, superficial social interaction to offer help in such passive, non-urgent task. But the compliment and his own stammering made her stumble again.
"It's- nothing," she said, smiling, "Good luck finding your sister."

"Thanks!" he said. "I appreciate your help!"
That was about as good as his thanks was to get, since he had spent enough time standing around talking. He'd better start looking like he was searching for Nyeupe. With a nod and a smile, he trotted off, still sort of randomly wandering around. He had no idea where to look, but whatever!
