Abellona heard the voices, and felt a tinge of anger at the mention of being a disappointment. That was not true. She would prove them wrong. Both she and her twin would. She knew it.

When Artemis stirred and approached her, she was already awake but had been resting her head on her crossed paws, eyes only open lazily. She followed her sister's gaze over their mother's belly and she smirked a little. She knew what that meant. It meant more company. As far as she was concerned, all she needed was her sister, so she put them out of mind for the time being. Turning her attention directly to the face that looked just like hers, Abellona replied, "I'm up, I'm up. I feel it, Artemis. But what does it mean?" As she replied in a hushed whisper she unfolded her legs and pushed herself up. That burning inside that she felt too was starting something. Like a fire-starter, it was pushing her into motion, away from here and into the night.

Her vision became slurred with red but she led the way, confident that she was doing the right thing. They needed to be somewhere else, and she wanted to find out where.

Abellona weaved her way over tangles of roots and through the trees that towered way up above them. Her clawed feet would scrape through the leaves on the ground, sometimes even leaving scratch marks on a root here or there. It was almost... compulsive, like a twitch. She didn't notice it at first, but when her sister spoke once more, it clicked. She was subconsciously leaving markers, in case they did find their way to where they needed to be. Grinning wickedly, the foal answered her sister, "Yes, I like it, too."

There wasn't a way to explain what was happening to them, but whatever it was... it was glorious. It was like she was thinking without the effort, as if her body would just do the things she wanted to do before she knew she wanted to. It left her senses to enjoy the events, to breathe deeply and inhale that wonderful scent of... wait. What was that? She drew to a stop suddenly, ears perked and eyes searching.

"There's.... something here. Something that smells... tasty." Glancing over at her sister, Abellona checks to see if she too picked up on it. Her heart is beating fast, but she breathes calmly, her body is tensed, but it is ready not afraid.

Tasty, tasty morsels...

Her senses were on overdrive, everything wanting to twitch and take part all at once. It was almost as if she could very well feel something else inside of her, except that one single part was running terrified. What was this new part of her? It felt trapped, alone and vulnerable, and yet it was inside of her surrounded by all the strong parts that were raring to go.

'Do you hear it?'

Yes! Yes, she was hearing it. It wasn't a part of her at all. She was just piecing it together as her sister continued and took the lead. Yes, it was just ahead, it had to be. She could feel that it was terrified, sitting stock still hoping not to be seen as it had lost track of what it was running from. That scared, lost part of herself wasn't part of herself at all. It was all of her senses coming together to tell her about what was up ahead, piecing it together so that she could see it in her mind before her eyes could see it for real. She was seeing her prey with all her senses and it was wonderful. Now to just catch it...

Glancing over at her twin, Abellona was ready, but her sister was right. They would have to approach this more tactically. They did indeed need to bring proof back. And they would. "Let's make Daddy proud," Nodding forward she indicated that Artemis should continue first. She would follow and provide her claws where it seemed necessary. The two of them together should have no problem catching the precious morsel. And what better than a tasty treat and a rewarding bout of appraisal from one's father? Abellona licked her lips, anxious to get her claws into their prize.

Abellona took her cues perfectly. Without delay she moved swiftly and quietly into place. Creeping along to the side she flanked the creature and before it realized it, the twins had it pinned up against the thorns with no where to go. She could practically taste it already.

Merely a moment after her sister whispered sweetly Abellona struck. Pouncing forward in one powerful motion she pinned the bird's wings to the ground, claws piercing through it's arms and finally drawing blood from their prey. She stood over it, eyes closed, for a moment, taking in that delicious smell not only of the tangy blood but also of it's terror. Tasty, tasty morsel.

She didn't quite want this moment to be over yet, so she kept it pinned in place so her twin could share this with her. They did this together, from beginning to end.

Abellona grinned wickedly. "Mmmmmm," She nodded and after taking one last lungful of this bird's terror she lifted a clawed paw and sliced through the remainder of the bird's shoulders in the same motion as she bit down on it's neck to both kill and de-wing the creature in one fell swoop. The thing never stood a chance. It should have kept running, the stupid bird.

Indicating the wings, Abellona proposed, "I think those will be proof enough. But this middle part... well.. we shouldn't just leave that lying about for scavengers to come across..." Her grin widened as she pushed the wings aside and took a good bite of their first kill.
